Thank you! 😊 Well, after a few goes you learn a bit. But its not so very hard. You just have to start somewhere and then its all about practice. But, as I often emphasise - Good Practice - very different from just spending time painting the same way each time. Push yourself and maybe try a few smaller paintings first. Like a study of a say a small detail. Maybe I'll make a video about practicing ? 😃

This is a great painting of that photograph. I thought you reloaded at least three times during the sunlight area part. But I heard where you said it was only the original load you were using. That's fantastic. I'm going to try this painting myself and paint along with you. I like your tip about not using a white canvas for every painting and how you used sienna to tone this canvas. Question, was that burnt sienna acrylic that you used with the sponge? And dark sienna oil to do the basic shapes and outlines? But just a wonderful painting. Thank you for these tutorials!
@PaulRansonArt
Жыл бұрын
Hi Terrance - yes it was burnt sienna acrylic thinned with water to make a wash coat. I scrub it on well so the canvas can grin through a little. If you use oils its sienna thinned with a little odourless thinners. Both canvases need to be dry before sketching the basic wave. Love to see you yoou get on. Please post the results on my facebook page ( link on the channel header )- Have fun - Paul 😎

Great video. Tinting the canvas made a world of difference. You said you could use oil as a tinter, correct if I'm wrong but that has to dry first also. It looked like one time loaded but also looked like you wiped it a few times.. keep doing what you doing.. it's beautiful...👏👏👏👏 🤜🤛💪....
@PaulRansonArt
Жыл бұрын
Hi HHP - yes to the use of oil paint as a tint for the canvas. Just add a small amount of thinners to make a wash from the oil paint and apply with a rag or old brush. Scrub it on well then let it dry. Its a little more fragile than acrylic and can be rubbed off with a drop of thinners on a rag but it works just tha same. I applied the thinned acrylic as a single coat. Keep it nice and thin though so its just a tint and not a solid colour. Its a lovely painting to do so hope you give it a try. 😎

Many thanks for your kind comments. Some folk are surprised by how little paint is needed sometimes. Painting on these liquid clear canvases is a point in question. As there is no base coat like liquid white to make the sky pastel we need to use a lot less paint. If we go in too heavy with the paint the sky and seas quickly becomes a mud fest. Have fun playing with this painting. Its from Pixabay and I've dropped the link in the description. Or, paint another scene you fancy. - Paul 😎

Hi, Paul! I had great success with this tutorial, and I've lately stained another canvas with the same burnt sienna! But I'm kinda stuck in what else to paint with it. Should I look for a reddish photo/scene, like grand canyon or desert sunset? Or should I just ignore it, paint whatever scene I want and let the sienna carry the mood as underpainting?
@PaulRansonArt
5 ай бұрын
I delighted to read your message. As for the next canvas I think you've already answered the question. Paint what ever you like and let the underpainting work for you. Using a toned canvas is a technique as old as the hills and masters like Gainsborough etc would only ever paint on a toned canvas. I do too but check out @laynejohnson channel - www.youtube.com/@LayneJohnsonStudio He uses them for his amazing skyscapes and scenes. Enjoy - Paul 😃😍😎

Good morning, Paul ☕️ This was a wonderful tutorial to start the day! I have a seascape on my easel as well. Not near romantic with colour but a detailed view of the shore nonetheless. I like how you made a point to share how an image appears when the dimensions change(ie more horizontal image on a wider canvas) I think sometimes we beat our self up, trying to make a piece look exactly like the photo, but that is one factor to take into account. It would be a fun experiment to take one photo and paint it five different ways. I particularly love the colours of the sunset. I love the contrast that she would shave with the deep purple. I think it’s also important to consider that using rich colours like that looks so much better than using black. Always awesome to see what you’re up to. Hope you enjoyed the weekend. 💖

Hi Robyn - thank you for your glowing compliments. This was a fun painting and its been sitting in my 'to do' folder for a while. The color combo is a classic yellow/mauve/red composition. Its hard not to make something nice with these. Just a matter of moving it around on the canvas without making mud 😂Happy accidents like the scale are a bonus or maybe I got lucky - you decide 🤔 Any ho looking forward to another week of creativity and watching your videos along the way 🥰🥰😎 @robynplummerpainting
