Korn was my gateway,ha ha. I was changing from 80s and 90s pop,and also somehow Green Day was part of the transition. Growing up with metal loving cousins in the Tampa bay area didn't hurt either. This dude's whole list was my first metal bands, especially Pantera,Metallica, and Megadeth. After that, while reading Metal Maniacs, got into Slayer, Morbid Angel, and Emperor. Me too with all of these bands. I don't own albums by any of them. I think I passed them up because my journey into metal was different from what they were doing. Faith No More, early Alice in Chains/Soundgarden, Sepultura/Fear Factory/Carcass/Obituary, In Flames/Dark Tranquillity (where I still base my love of metal today, but branch in all directions). My path never really went the way of more thrashier stuff. I heard it and enjoyed it, but never bought the albums over other stuff.

Honestly I can't think of any 5 bands or a number of bands everyone listens to and I don't because I'm an all around guy when it comes to great music especially metal, I mean it just depends what mood I'm in or if an album just reached a milestone then I would go back and listen to it but to me I'm respectful on your picks like I don't constantly listen to these because after while you can actually hear them....without hearing them so from then on you start to listen to upcoming bands that are very unknown to the public which is cool you get a chance to check them out and listen and share your thoughts and insights. But I would say from your picks, the first couple albums of these bands were awesome because it defined what metal really is and paved on to Thrash, Death, and Black metal. Anyways, great video though dude hope to see you more on here or stream. \m/

Is it a thing with black metal heads to not like certain sounds because for the most part I kind of agree with you on this video and for the most part I kind of feel the same way about these exact same bands. There are some newer bands to that I don’t really like that people love that I have tried to like, but don’t. I think it’s because they are too melodic. Those are Bring Me the Horizon, The Devil wears Prada, five finger Death Punch, oh asking Alexandria, I prevail, Black Veil Brides, and Avenged Sevenfold, oh and honestly I can’t really get into any of the grunge bands. Maybe hole and L7 are OK. I used to not like slipknot for many of the same reasons I don’t like Metallica, but honestly I am starting to really appreciate support now that I’m 33. Same with Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. I do like certain errors of Megadeth, and only the first album of Metallica Kill ‘Em All. I do you like iron maiden, but Paul Deano is my favorite vocalist. I do love Bruce Dickinson, but I feel like iron maiden with Paul Diana was more raw sounding and iron maiden with Bruce Dickinson is more over produced sounding of that makes sense. One of the reasons why I like black metals so much is because it sounds so raw and not over produced but I guess it’s the distortion because there’s so much of it kind of like in punk. Call Deano has that punk background. Which is weird because I prefer metal to punk because I like some of the more virtuosic nature in metal.

AC/DC for me. I went through a brief phase as a teen/young adult where I liked them. But where I grew up they were just so overplayed--to the point where you couldn't get away from hearing them if you tried. Pantera was so oversaturated too, but at least every song didn't sound the same and Brian Johnson wasn't their "vocalist." I am no Pantera fan boy by any means, but I can't say that I despise them like AC/DC at least.

Always felt I was awful for not just getting into certain bands. Pantera was very talented, same with Iron Maiden, Metallica but just didnt do anything for me. Megadeth, some good songs but not for me. I was into bands that were melodic but dark. One 80s band I do like Is Queensriche, their 1st 3 albums. After those no. My music was black metal. Some Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir was my favorite. Even some Mortis, Agalloch, Burzum. And now like Runespell, and Fyrnask, Severoth. It has to be melodic and dark.Even as a very young kid I was always disappointedbecause I was looking for something I didnt know how to even explain. The one thing these bands have in common is they are all mainstream (Pantera is to a point). You go into more detail but the main reason I get sick of bands like this is hearing their songs everywhere... it gets old. Most of the music I truly like I've found here on KZitem, going down the rabbit hole of recommended videos. The music I like doesnt usually end up on the radio, even Octane or Liquid Metal. "Nothing special compared to other bands" actually apply to ALL bands. No one has to justify themselves about their preferences, but that just ain't a valid argument. All genres are filled to the brim with generic, by the number bands. I personally don't care about bands themselves, and only care about a few musicians, I care about the songs. Same bands produced more songs I enjoy, others less and many produced none. Majority rule does not apply when it comes to preferences, you don't have to like something because everyone else does. You don't have to like everything anyway, that make you an echo chamber, not a person. Funny thing though, metalheads often complain loudly about "everyone" talking shit about the music we like yet we're the one who talk the most shit about bands other metalheads like. And to wrap it up, the worst reason to shit on popular bands is to assert some sort of "individuality" like a statement that says "I'm not a sheep, I know better". That's just plain garbage. Not to say it's what you did, the reasons given in your video make sense to me, even if for some examples I think you picked not enough albums and here and there picked the wrong ones. One thing I'll never accept though is the statement that hair metal is "cool". I hated it when it was the craze back in the 80s, and I even hate it more now.

People at my school listen to well-known bands such as mayhem, burzum, dark throne, etc. but no matter how hard I tried, I never liked to listen to those bands. I've been a BM fan since 1998 and I couldn't stand Burzum until maybe 4 months ago *shrugs* Anyway, the real posers are the ones restricting themselves to one particular genre because in the end they're only doing it for credibility amongst their peers and to place themselves on a pedestal to make up for their lower social standing in life. Metallica was my springboard into thrash, but got uninteresting when I discovered more extreme bands of the time like Sodom, Kreator, Whiplash, Holy Terror, Violence, etc.

I totally agree with this list and with all these bands I had to try repeatedly to "get" them because I felt there was no way I could love metal but not love these bands...blasphemy I thought but....then I realize. I'm not alone

I really tried to like Pantera too. Not my cup of tea either. Plus this girl I was dating st the time played them out for me. Megadeth I like Peace Sells. That's it. His voice gets to me. Iron Maiden I prefer Killers. Metallica I won't even bother. After Master of Puppets I was out. Garage Days was good. You can hear the bass. So I guess I agree. Love the channel. Keep up the good work. 🎸☠️💀🦝

😂😂 it's understandable. I grew up listening to them back in the 80's and loved their classics (still do and prefer without question) more than the way they are playing now; but that's because, as I stated, I grew up listening to them and became a full throttle metalhead exactly in 83, when Thrash Metal was born, as a response to the Glam Metal scene which I also grew up listening to and enjoyed (still do). Now these bands have changed drastically to the point that even I can admit I fucking hate their latest albums, but I had to understand that many of them decided to change to reach the new generation's (I think that's one of the reasons) but also it's because they're old now. But this is only my opinion. Each individual has a different music taste and view so it's all good 😂😂. But I do understand what you mean Boris. 🤘🤘🤘

For me, it's not that I don't like any of those 4 bands, I just only like some of their songs... not that majority of them. It's actually very rare for me to like a huge percentage of a band's work, so that's one way I sort them out into tiers: If a band has maybe 3-4 or more albums that I like every song on, then that band to me is in the god tier. Megadeth Pantera and Iron Maiden are great examples, where I could maybe list a handful of songs I like but in no way would they ever make the higher tiers for me, personally.

Objectively, if you don't appreciate the fact that they made Master of Puppets(the song) when they were 22-23, there's something wrong with you.

Nice video as always. Personally, I never liked Pantera, Megadeth and Metallica, but I used to listen a lot to Iron Maiden when I was a kid, because I loved their melodies. And I still respect them a lot and consider this band to be one of the best bands of the metal scene. As for Metallica (and Megadeth), I used to like them the first years I was listening to metal, but the more I listened to them (especially everything made after 1991) the more I didn't like them and so I gave up listening to these guys.

I loved the four of them at some point in my life but I absolutely despise Metallica after the Black album, and I also think that Iron Maiden and Megadeth should have stopped releasing records after the 90s; Btw Pantera along with Black Sabbath is a top 5 act for me. It's ok to not like certain stuff, for example I don't like Pink Floyd and Queen which were outstanding bands in their own right.

Well said. I understand where you are coming from on that. I get it. How do I say this. When I was in my late teens.. Early 20's.. I loved the Powerslave album.. And the Live after death album. But in the late 80's.. Early 90's I became obsessed by Guns N Roses. Then in the mid 0's I became obsessed by Motley Crue.. Whom I no longer obsess over but am still curious about. Fast forward to 2019 and I realized I had not heard Powerslave in all that time.. So I had a revisit to the album thinking it would be terrific.. But it wasn't. I no longer appreciated it and one other thing.. I found Bruce Dickinson's voice to be irritating.. Also I can't handle watching Iron Maiden live.. I find them dreary.. And it's like Bruce is struggling. Though I think Steve Murry is interesting. The contradiction.. I've tried to like Iron Maiden again in more recent times.. After I concluded that I never needed/wanted to hear them again.. I kept being curious about them. Now I can appreciate a few of the albums. No prayer for the dying.. Great album.. Also... Dance of death is good except for the opening track. I revisited Seventh son and actually liked it.. When back in 1990 I just did not understand the Seventh son album and couldn't get into it. The first two Maiden albums are great(haven't heard them in years though.. But remember them well) Also.. The Blaze Bayley albums are very good. I have to be in the mood for Maiden which is not that often/occasionally. In regard of Rust in peace. Had not heard it since the 90's.. Had lost interest in it after Countdown to extinction came out.. It's not just that.. I never really got that into Rust in peace.. I thought it was interesting and ok at the time.. But that was it. Had a revisit to Rust in peace in 2018 after not having heard it for more than 20 years.. Did not like it at all.. Thought it was dreary and terrible.. Having no idea that it was praised by metal heads online in KZitem videos. Rust in peace is the most overated metal album ever.. Am so sick and tired of it being praised.. It's dreary and dull to me.. Can't get into it. Actually heard it again the other day.. Thought I'd give it one more go.. Nope. Countdown to extinction is so much better. Risk is great.. Just re listened to that the other night.. Terrific album.. As is 13 and Supercollider. I don't listen to Megadeth that often. In saying all this. Music is a matter of perspective and I have a weird complicated relationship with music. I develop association with albums then it reminds of the time I heard it. I do like Pantera but rarely listen to them.. Listened to them a lot back in the 90's.. Then had a revisit about a year ago.. Yep.. Still good. About Metallica.. They were pretty much my introduction to metal during my mid to late teens in the late 80's.. They presented the pathway for me to discover other metal later on. I loved the Jason years. When Jason left.. I felt that was the end of Metallica. I liked the Load and Re load albums. The Black album was terrific.. Haven't heard it in years though.. However.. Songs come on the radio from it occasionally when I'm in the car.. Still good. When Rob joined the band I thought that was the worst thing ever.. Never liked him.. Never will. Heard Death magnetic all of twice.. Haven't heard it since. Heard the title track to Hardwired all of once and half times.. Awful. Heard Moth to flame once. Refuse to listen to the rest of the album.. Not interested. Didn't listen to Metallica for 18 years then three weeks ago out of curiosity and it had been on my mind. Went for a revisit to St Anger with Bob Rock on bass. My memory was this.. Getting the album.. Hearing it about maybe 3 times then not hearing it ever again.. Don't know what happened there. With my revisit on went in neutral.. Ready to not like it.. I had no reason to like it. As so many metal heads on line slam the album.. Omg.. Just from this alone I needed to hear it again. I was excited about my revisit. So I had my revisit to St Anger.. Wow.. Impressive.. Actually.. A very good album.. And this coming from a guy who said he's never going to listen to Metallica again. I enjoyed and understood the album. Then I heard it through twice more.. Yep still good. I understand why people don't like it.. But that is what gives it it's character. Then I looked at the track listening for Load and Reload.. Great albums.. Good memories. As for the first four albums.. Haven't had the urge to listen to them in many years.. But I think of them occasionally. In saying all this.. Albums are going to mean different things to different people. So Yes.
