When my mom was around 13 (in the late 70s) she told me about how she hitchhiked from near Toronto, Canada all the way to California because she didn't want to live with my grandparents anymore. That's such a long distance and hearing about stories like this makes it seem like a miracle that she made it there without being harmed. My mom really is a lucky woman

I grew up in Palo Alto when Ted Bundy was running around Stanford. I used to walk there everyday. Also during the Zodiac killings. There were so many serial rapists and killers in the Bay Area during the 1970s when I was a teen!! At Berkeley, "stinky" the rapist, the rapists in Santa Rosa, the Zodiac in San Francisco, etc. etc. We had no childhood, unless you count looking over your shoulder every few seconds for a serial killer while trying to play a childhood...

Now *this* was again one of your videos I loved most. I actually had never heard about one of these. Thanks! Although this kind of crime almost or actually never happens where I live, I always was a bit afraid of hitchhiking. Except in the mountains/hiking areas where it is just normal to shuttle people around or get brought back to your own car after a hike that doesn't end where the car was parked. Once I gave a hitchhiker a ride for over 100 km bc his destination actually was right on my way. Of course, nothing happened.

Im not sure if you take suggestions for video ideas, but it would be awesome if you could do one that is about mysterious disappearances in national forests/parks. If you need to find some cases, check out David Paulides. He's a retired police officer who investigates mysterious disappearances in national forests/parks. A majority of these cases all have similar mysterious and creepy facts about the person who disappeared. Sometimes the person is found dead in very weird circumstances, alive and they don't remember anything about their disappearance, or disappear completely and no traces of them have been found. These disappearances have been going on since the 1850s and they occur in clusters around certain areas of the parks. It's sounds like something up your creepy alley you may enjoy. 😊

Some killers even have frontal lobe damage from being abused and it messes with their brain.
@Agent-Strawman
4 жыл бұрын
Damage to or underdevelopment of the frontal lobe can cause people to have diminished self-control. Add a touch of trauma to the mix, and it's an easy connection to make. Of course, there's also a bit of credence to the term "born bad".

I had a good childhood and I've killed like 15 ppl 😉
@sfletch3042

@Jane Marsee of course. However the point here is that there is a demonstrable link between childhood abuse and trauma and deviant, criminal behavior. Not all abuse victims become murderers, but almost all serial killers, rapists etc have abuse in their backgrounds. Psychopaths are almost always made. Very very few are born.

thanks for the billy cook segment. billy cook was the inspiration for the ida lupino directed film the hitch-hiker. cook also made a big impression upon jim morrison. morrison and his friends made a film entitled HWY. in the film morrison was to play a serial killer named billy who drove around looking for victims. as the production developed this idea was dropped and project took a different direction. cook however continued to inspire morrison as the lyrics to riders on the storm attest to. there's a killer on the road...if you give this man a ride sweet family will die...

Who in their right mind now days would hitchhike or pick up a hitchhiker? I was driving cross country couple years ago in the middle of nowhere, when all of a sudden a young female hitchhiker tried to get a ride from me on the highway, I was going up a steep hill so I could not go fast, when I slowly passed her, 5 to 6 people jumped out of the bushes and started running after my car, I was sweating bullets trying to get me car to accelerate up the hill, it was some crazy scary stuff!

I picked up a hitchkiker. I was leaving my hometown and going back home 60mi away. As I was leaving town, a kid pulled out in front of me(not in a dick way, but just pulling out) from the local community college. He was on the hwy in front of me about a mi down the hwy in front of me. When I noticed he pulled over and steam was coming from his hood. I slowed down and he flagged me over. I stopped and backed up. He asked where I was going and I told him, he said he was going to the same town. As we were driving he asked if I smoked. I said, "cigs"?. He goes yes but do you smoke the other. I go, yes. Do you mind if I roll a joint? I said break it out. This was back like in the mid 90s. That was the only time I picked up a hitch hiker

One late night it was around maybe 12:45am, I was driving and stopped at a rest area around 200 miles away from Detroit. It was a real deserted rest area but still up and running. There were about 4 truck drivers parked I guess they were getting some sleep but no cars at all. I went to the bathroom and after I relieved myself I craved a light snack for the road. So I went to the vending machine and next to it was a payphone. While I was looking at the snacks inside, I noticed a guy approaching me from the reflection of the glass. I turned around before he got closer, this guy was weird looking. Short, kind of stubby and looked homeless. He asked if I could give him a lift, I turned to that payphone and lifted it up and said "here you go," gave him some change for the phone then walked outside to my car. I sleep great at night knowing I won't ever give a stranger a ride.

Sandra Gross Houston, TX, 3rd biggest city in the nation... certainly not a cave. However, we mostly drive on freeways here not rural back roads where hitchhikers would be. It’s a modernized city, so maybe that’s why I don’t see them. Just reading on KZitem I can see that I’m not alone in this either. Most people that live in DEVELOPED areas don’t see hitchhikers anymore. I see a lot of these kids on here aren’t even familiar with the term so 🤷🏻♀️ I’m living in present day America, perhaps those that still see “hitchhikers” often are closer to that “cave” you mentioned than me. 😑

Pretty good. I used to live near goose Creek SC. One of my teachers told me that hurricane Hugo tore away a lot of rotting trees , branches that covered back alley sewers, ditches, and swamps. What was uncovered was all the dead bodies of male and female people hitch hikers, homeless, and teen runaways. Peewee had offered them food and a place to shelter but instead after he was done committing sexual acts with all these people, then he killed them! ✌️💖👏

Hitchhiking is still popular except now people use an app instead of a thumb.

Shirley Gaskin said when she told Donald she was being bullied, he gave her a gun. I wonder if he gave her that gun because of his own experience of being bullied.

I wish hitchhiking would make a comeback.... OH!!! And vans too, you just don’t see many sweet full size vans anymore.
