Loved this video! It brought back childhood memories of turning the handle on Grandma's Daisy churn after Gramps milked the cows. Then we'd watch her shape the butter in a huge wooden bowl. I still have that bowl and churn. I wish I had the old ice cream maker we used too. Grandma would prepare the ice cream mixture on the stove then it was up to us kids to turn the handle while Gramps packed the outside full of ice or snow and salt. Best ice cream ever!

So cool seeing you bake challah! As an observant jewish mom, I bake it all the time 6 lbs of flour at a time in my beloved Bosch mixer. I don't baby it like you do, though, doing it that often you learn lots of tips n tricks to get it done more speedily. Nothing tastes quite like rewarmed challah on Friday night.

You can freeze your butter and grate it with a cheese grater
@alindalt2897

While you wait for a cutter… you can use two bread knives and cut it in…. Or grate the butter on a hand cheese grater. Makes it a lot easier to mix that butter in. Also. Save up for an Ankarsram(sp) mixer. About 700$. But those bad boys are a beast and can handle anything. I won’t put more than six cups of flower in my kitchenaide and always replace the plastic gear box with an original metal gear box case before I start using it. My old anksarsrum died after being over sixty years old. I inherited it when it was fifty years old and it was still running great. I got ten years out of it. I just haven’t saved up for a new one yet. I miss it so much.

Hi Angela, I have a question for you. I purchased a large glass container for flour and when I got home, it doesn’t have a rubber gasket inside the lid. Did your glass container have a rubber gasket? The reason I’m asking I wasn’t sure if it would keep it dry and safe from any bugs.

I just knew comments would go crazy over that but I don’t see anything. Yep! Just me. I admit to being weird so no one come after me but that’s why I don’t eat food at pot luck dinners. Just sayin! Hi Angela, I make butter in ALMOST the exact same way! The only difference is that I was taught to use the cream COLD, straight from the fridge... and mine is ready in about 10 minutes (maybe having everything cold is the secret?). If I make salted butter, I just pop the salt in the bowl with the cream right at the start... it comes out the same (and saves time 😉) It is important to rinse & squish the butter between your fingers to get any remaining buttermilk out, as it is the buttermilk that makes the butter go rancid. Again, a little differently from you, I was taught to rinse/squish the butter in a big bowl of ice cold water (I put on a pair of those throw away surgical gloves, so my hands don't freeze).

All you have to do is put either a damp rag under the cutting board. Or paper towels. With that size you will probably need 2 towels or 3 paper towels. But it stops the back and forth. Whatever you need to put under but it has to be damp
