1. Anxiety
Dogs can whine
when they are anxious or afraid.
For instance, when dogs go to an unfamiliar place
or meet a new person,
they may get anxious and behave in such a way.
Also, if dogs whine
when the owner is leaving the house,
it could mean that they have separation anxiety.
If your dog behaves in a problematic manner,
such as continuing to whine
or messing up the house,
you should try to ease his/her separation anxiety.
2. Excited Greeting
Dogs also whine when they are highly excited to greet someone.
When this happens, they may also wag their tail
or lie on their back.
They may even pee on themselves
if they get too excited.
Excitement peeing is a behavior
often seen in puppies who are in their growth phase
and it gets better as time goes by.
However, if your adult dog
continues to pee in such situations,
then you should avoid actions
such as touching or paying attention
which may over-excite him/her.
3. Illness
Dogs whine when they are not feeling well.
For example, if dogs whine
when they are going up the stairs or the couch,
it may mean that their joints have become weaker.
When dogs are sick,
they do not move as much and lack energy.
If your dog continues to behave like this,
then you should take him/her to the vet for a check-up.
4. Needing Something
When dogs want something,
they whine to communicate their need.
For instance, if the toy they were playing with
has gone under the furniture such as the couch,
or if they want a treat, dogs will whine.
When there is a problem
that they cannot solve on their own,
they will whine to call for the owner’s help.
