I'm 67+ and I started in February cutting sugar and carbs out. I lost 20 lbs and my knee pain is gone along with problems of inflammation in both wrists. Then 2 months ago, I broke out all over with hives so bad I had to immediately take 50 mg of prednisone for 5 days along with antihistamines to stop the cycle. I had to cut nuts along with so many other foods I was eating and enjoying because now I don't know what I'm allergic to. So far, I haven't gained more than 3 lbs but now what do I eat. I'm not going to give this up for anything. There must be lots of other foods I can eat but breakfast, which I love, with the nuts and yogurt, is going to be hard to figure out. Funny thing is, I've never had allergies before this.

I went low carb because of my diabetes. The weight loss ( 40 lbs. ) was an added bonus. My A1C went from a high of 8.2 to 6.3 and 5.7 within 6 months. Any doctor who doesn't advise diabetic patients to go low carb is doing them a disservice. I am still trying and videos like Dr. Gillaspy's are so helpful.

Since starting Keto a couple of months ago, I have shed 12kg and feel that I'm actually eating more or what I'm eating is more satiating. I now do intermittent fasting (8hr eating window from 11am to 7pm) without snacks and seldom do I think of a sugar or carb fix. My waist has shrunk and I'm now wearing the clothes that I'd kept for when I lost weight.

Thank you, Dr.Becky. I am 63 years old and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 14th 2020: also Hyperthyroidism, loss of vision, and an autoimmune disease showing markers for Lupus in my blood work and after that I colon sugery from Diverticulitis. I fasted and prayed for 7 days (water only) and I didn't take any Insulin or medications prescribed for my diabetic condition or my Thyroid condition. The Lord answered my prayers on the 7th day of my fast my blood sugar fell from 475 in seven days to below 100 and has stayed there ever since today (November 4th). Dr. Jockers who also has a KZitem channel put me on Keto and some other supplements in February. Yesterday on November 3rd my medical doctor said that my Type 1 diabetes was in remission and my Thyroid was in remission, meaning and that according to my lab work I don't have any more symptoms. The doctors don't like the word healed, so they say remission. My vision also has returned to normal. I love my keto diet and I also love burning fat for fuel instead of sugar. I am now fat adapted and I am no longer a sugar burner. Thank you for all the time and energy you put into these videos. I hope that people will take these videos and all the valuable Keto information that you provide on your channel seriously. I am very grateful to the Lord Jesus for healing me and Dr. Jockers' nutritional advice. I am presently sharing your videos with many others. Thank you once again and may the Lord bless you

I've been on a keto diet for 16 months. Prior to that I spent about a year looking for food that would reduce the inflammation in my joints.. I also wanted to avoid type 2 diabetes, which both my parents suffered from. I gradually stopped eating bread, pasta, rice, making risotto for example, with cauliflower rice. I discovered the advice to increase the fat content in my diet with astonishment and was amazed at the effects on my body after just a couple of weeks. I'm now 67 and haven't felt so fit and healthy since I was 27! My preferred exercise is pilates and walking, which keep my joints comfortably loose . I suffered with osteoarthritis, the wear and tear still affect me but the pain is mostly gone. I'm glad I came to low carb/Keto gradually, it has been relatively easy to transition and improved my health immeasurably.

When I was pigging out on carbs and sugar the cravings rarely stopped. I was also doing chemo at the time so can't tell exactly how cutting carbs made me feel on day one, but after chemo, after I stopped eating processed sugar, then the weight started to fall off I had much more energy and I slept better when I quit eating after 6pm. I believe that was instrumental in helping me shed 40lbs in 3 and a half months. But then slowly, I started snacking after 6 and I stopped losing weight but my BMI was good so I didn't think much of it...at the time. Then I went on a long road trip and relied on junk food too often. I started to gain weight again. Got up to 210 from 195 so I am once again not eating after 6pm and I've already lost 4lbs in 8 days. It's a constant vigil at my age to stay trim (72 yrs old) but applying the principles suggested by Dr Becky really do work. But in today's food markets it's nearly impossible to not get a sugar in way too many foods. Gotta read the labels and decide what I want to look like when I look in the mirror. Plus I'm lighter on my feet and I like feeling thin. I'll lose another 10lbs by end of February by following the good Dr's advice.

I have been on a keto lifestyle since Feb 2021. I feel great and never thought I would be able to stick with it. The few cheats did not derail me, and now I am able to resist desserts etc, as I have lost the sugar cravings. I now crave beef. The most difficult thing is socializing and friends’ reactions. I try to minimize talking about what I’m doing, change the subject, and when friends apologize for eating sweets in front of me, I tell them, “ no problem…I’m happy with my life. I think some people know their diets are horrible, but they can’t stop, and my success makes them uncomfortable in a way. I hope I’ll get better at handling social situations with time.

I’ve lost almost 20kg and feel so much better. I have another 10kg left and we are now considering buying an air fryer to mix up things in the kitchen. I told my doctor I was doing keto. I always do my research and told her I’d researched the diet and felt it was in my best interests as I was pre-diabetic. My Insulin Resistance was in full swing! I said I’ll do the diet and in six months do my blood test and see how my sugar level is then. Two weeks ago I had the blood test and my result is now back in the normal range. Happy days. 👏🏼🎉💪🏼

I went Keto back in 2016 and I got below my goal weight! I felt amazing except for I had a rash (from keto) and my mouth always felt very dirty---like my saliva was super thick. No matter what I did, that feeling stayed. It took 2 months of keto before that happened. And neither the rash or mouth feeling went away until I stopped keto and went back to a typical diet. I think maybe I just need a higher carb limit than keto offers. I still keep my carbs lower than most eating an Standard American diet, but definitely more than my body likes. Working on going fully low carb again and finding my carb tolerance level.

I live in the Middle East and have recently become interested in Keto. After watching many videos I have realized how very first world/western all the menus and recipe ideas are. It is very hard to get the variety of vegetables and protein in other areas of the world. One of the things I find difficult with Keto/low carb menus is the amount of pork in recipes. I live in a Muslim country with no access to any pork products. This seriously reduces menu variety. Having bacon, sausage, etc. is not an option because the beef and chicken options are almost unpalatable. Also, beef is SUPER expensive, like once a week expensive. What do we have today? Chicken, and chicken, and chicken. Maybe eggs today. Ugh.

Good advice. I went to a "no carb" living and loved the results but then 5 months into it, had horrible time in the bathroom and people said I looked sickly and gray. Figuring I was heading to being hospitalized, I rescued myself by loading up on any/all carbs I could for about 3 days. All my problems went away instantly. So did my progress. That was years ago. I returned to the carb/sugar eating. Re-gained the weight. There must be some balance point where you have a small amount of carbs, your internal organs work correctly, and you don't look like death warmed over. Current A1c% 9.9 and about 237 fasting blood sugar. But back on that no carb diet, no meds and A1c% 6.2 and blood sugar 131 non-fasting. :(

67 year old male who lost over 60 pounds. Like others, it was tough for me to push my blood sugar low enough to kick off ketosis and I had a number of slips along the way. However, every time I started again it got easier and once I started seeing significant results, my mental state dramatically improved and it became easy to stay there. Eventually, I kicked my sugar addiction. Now, I have no cravings for sweets and I do my best to avoid sugar sneaking into my diet. I don't have cheat days, but I do have celebration days (e.g. Thanksgiving, birthday) and let myself enjoy it guilt free, knowing it will take me close to a week to get back to normal. I still love beer, but it is a celebration drink now and even then, I moderate. The hardest thing for me is traveling cross country because low carb options are really limited on the road and it is harder to maintain normal meals when the rest of your routine is shot. Watch out for salads when traveling, the dressings are almost always loaded with sugar.

I'm facing the prospect of hitting a low carb reduction block related to the 2nd thing to avoid - Too Much, Too Soon. I don't expect a problem in the initial reduction, but the final move to low carb could be a struggle because of where I live. I live in SE Asia in a country in which rice is the #1 agricultural commodity. Eating rice is not just commonplace. It is a cultural imperative. The general term used when calling the family for meals translates literally as "eat rice". Three meals per day, plus snacks, plus desserts all containing rice or components made from rice flour. My wife is a local person. Rice every meal is what she knows. Although she agrees in concept with moving to a low carb diet, giving up rice is not on the agenda. Cooking and eating separately is not likely to happen. What is the best way to address this rice challenge in moving to a low carb diet? What has allowed you to complete the transition from high carb to low carb?

Strictly carnivore for over a year. During my fourth bout of what my GP said was gout, he admitted gout was not well understood and I started doing my own research. It turns out gout is not a problem if you just eat meat, and eat no plants. It also turns out my problem was probably oxalates rather than gout! I stopped eating wheat several years ago and respiratory allergies cleared up. Some months before going carnivore I cut back on rice which caused a minor weight loss. Beyond those changes, I switched from SAD to carnivore overnight with no ill effects. It was months later that I heard about the "Keto flu", I never experienced it. I am nominally 6 feet tall and over the span of 4 months went from 205 pounds to 165 pounds. With the exception of dropping 5 pounds when I had a double migraine weight has been stable and a couple of month post migraine I am back at a stable 165. Inflammation is greatly reduced, I no longer need to breath through my mouth. Meals are simpler to make, to eat, and to clean up after. Some restaurants offer meat only options, other restaurants probably wonder when they get their plates back and all the vegetation is still on the plate.

Sadly I have been on keto for 5 weeks now. I am very conscientious and not broken the rules once, however, I haven't lost a single pound and very disappointed and frustrated. I will keep at it, but over the years I have destroyed my metabolism and my body is so resistant to ridding me of the body fat. Anyone out there can help ?

Stay on course: in two months you will have dropped one or two clothing sizes. Ignore the scales.

Don’t give up, that happened to me as well. It’s coming off somewhere, you just can’t see it on the scale. All that nasty dangerous visceral fat in your belly is being used and this plan will work. Then one day you will see a difference on the scale. Good luck and don’t stop. Think how thrilled you’ll be when that happens because at the same time, your clothes will start getting baggy.

5 weeks is really fairly short if you consider how many years you were not on keto. Did you go on keto solely for losing weight? I've always gone/been on it for health, not weight loss. No more joint pain, less muscle pain, more energy, more flexibility, and much better mental clarity are also good motivators... Gayle Ritter's comment, 5 days previous, is right, it may be that you're using up the fat around your internal organs (visceral) and once that's gone, the subcutaneous fat and accompanying weight will start to go.

About a year ago went low carb. Brutal for a week then better. Weight loss was amazing-45 lbs in 3 months. Doc says I need 10 more. My question is once you achieve desired weight, what then? Don’t want to lose anymore weight and really, really, really don’t want to gain any back.

As a diabetic I was getting sicker and sicker. I decided to go low carb a few weeks ago and lost 5 kilos straight away even though I was eating much more than I would normally eat. I've been experimenting with my insulin and have managed to stop taking my overnight Lantus. The amount I need varies with how clean I manage to stick with the Keto diet. This morning I decided to try my old breakfast of oatmeal and stewed fruit and the sugar went through the roof. LOL. So back to bacon and eggs for me.

Best to limit the number of times you eat in a day? What's with keeping your metabolism running by eating smaller portions more often throughout the day? I have started a vegan keto diet and indeed my blood glucose is dropping like a stone. I have no intention to go into ketosis though. Just focus on fats and proteins and very few carbs

I cut carbs gradually, over many years as I learned about diabetes, and much later, Keto. So I cut all the obvious things, cake, cookies, fast food restaurant food. I lost some weight that way, but cravings didn't stop. Next, I cut out pasta, and that was harder than the goodies. But I thought I could still eat bread if I controlled it. Which I couldn't. So the last of the wheat products had to go. And that is when the cravings stopped. Immediately, I didn't experience any withdrawal, maybe because I cut things out gradually. I had also cut out anything with artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors. No more flavored yogurt. I'm sad that I can't have my favorite cookies or ice cream anymore, but at least I'm not obsessively thinking about it all the time. The one thing I don't want to give up entirely is fruit, apples, oranges, bananas. So I am trying portioning in 12g carb servings. I have not yet mastered not eating before I'm growling hungry, but I'm controlling carb servings and total carbs a day. Update: I'm getting better at intermittent fasting, can't always do sixteen hours but I can do twelve to fourteen hours. I've tried one sweet Keto treat and realized I can not control my intake, so have given that up. My weight loss is down, up, down, up. I'm still experiencing fairly severe edema in my feet, ankles, and lower legs, it's not as bad as it was but it's not good. I am very sedentary, and I'm thinking about starting a walking schedule, but...haven't moved beyond thinking about it. I am very noticeably weaker than I was when I retired three years ago. I have my groceries delivered, and that helps me control what I buy, I'm not walking past the doughnut case anymore, but I'm also not walking, period. So I may start walking to the grocery store again.

Thanks for this highly informative video. I am an Indian - age 71 years. I want to share my experience about Indian sweets. Many of our delicious sweets like Rabadi (condensed full cream milk with sugar ), shrikhand (very thick yogurt with sugar), are enemies of weight loss. Even a small quantity will completely ruin your objective - particularly if you have Insulin Resistance. Avoid these - like plague. No exaggeration. Thanks once again.

How do you combat the constipation when switching to a low carb diet, is it okay to have a fibre supplement?

I cut high carbs because of high glucose, heart disease, plugged arteries, prediabetic, peripheral neuropathy along with autoimmune graves disease and at times chrones. The chrones has died down some. I'm annoyed with this whole diet as I only weigh 98 pounds now and its not easy trying to gain weight on keto low carb. However, I do feel better without all the glucose in my blood but i look and feel way too thin. I would like to reach my optimal weight of 120 but so far no luck on low carbs. Im between a rock and a hard place. I have a choice and I prefer to keep my feet and not be a diabetic. I sure miss things but it is easy to just skip them now. It does get easier as you go. I've tried sneaking in things here and there so I can gain but I feel like crap after the fact. Its not worth it. Its easy now like I said but I don't look healthy.

I'm 40 and with fasting and transitioning to low carb has helped me lose 22 lbs. Your video at 2:13 is me to a tee. I could eat 250g of carbs in my sleep. But for me: getting to my goal weight is more important than my chocolate bars, chips and Starburst berry sours. Wish me luck!

Many thanks for your videos. I am just starting on this journey and hope I get the results I want. However, my wife and I are both vegetarian and my wife is also gluten free. Preparing seperate meals is not really an issue but as we don’t live close to a supermarket, keeping our veggies fresh to see us through the week is quite difficult. I have also noted that even some vegetables are high in carbs limiting when we can use to prepare meals. We both eat fish which I guess is a positive, but what else can be used as a base for a meal? My first impression is that I will probably lose weight because I can’t eat anything. Any ideas please?

I have been eating low carbs for 10 months. I have lost 30 lbs. My morning sugar has gone from 215 to 150. Always have had the dawn phenomenon. My sugar during the day, before dinner, has been around 110. I seem to have plateaued at around 150 . I fast after dinner until 11:00 a.m. I am very disappointed that the morning read wont go down. Any thoughts? Should I still give it more time? I would appreciate the help. Thank you for your knowledge.

The sugar flu was brutal the first time! But on the other side of it when “the magic happened” was amazing. I tried it because I knew my diet was not as clean as I could be and I didn’t like seeing myself in photos. My joints were sore, my sinuses always plugged up and I was having peripheral neuropathy issues that were “idiopathic”. By going to a low carb Paleo diet, I found not only did the excess weight come off, but I felt brighter and all-over healthier. I didn’t feel sluggish or creaky or stuffy any more and the peripheral neuropathy symptoms went away completely. I fell off the wagon 3 years ago when I got an office job that required socializing. I lost control of my food choices to keep the job. The weight came back, the cravings came back, and when the peripheral neuropathy and gastric issues landed me at the doctors again, I had had enough and quit my job to go freelance again where I have control over my food and my health. I miss the money, but it wasn’t worth the literal agony! This time, no sugar flu, but the weight is NOT coming off like it did before! I do feel brighter and more energy and my balance has returned so I’m exercising and sleeping great. Maybe my genes and my age are making it tougher this time? I’m not giving up. No matter what the scale says, I FEEL BETTER THIS WAY
