Sempervivum and frost hardy Sedum (Stonecrops) would grow well in Montréal if you get them established this summer!

@@moi-meme4788 I had trouble in Montreal because of the humidity year-round, but hopefully this is due to choosing the wrong species of plants. Let us know if it worked!

I was shocked that my sempervivum survived -30 with -50 wind chills daytime, nighttime got alot colder. I didn't think about giving them any extra insulation as I was prepping the house for the artic freeze. It was a multi day hard deep freeze. First time I ever experienced a freeze like that this far south. They all made it with no losses or damage. I sure do love my sempervivum. I've had them for over 20 years. Thank you for this information. I will be better prepared next time for them.

That's amazing! Those Sempervivum can definitely survive short periods at temps far below their stated hardiness zone if they're dry, established, and well-grown, so you must be taking great care of them!

Which agave do you have under your row cover?
@Mountaincrestgardens

There are some parryi under there that would possibly be fine here without cover. But of the Agave under there, it's a 'Blue Glow' that we're really trying to coddle. So far it's four winters strong in zone 7!

What do u do for them if they got too cold and are drooping?

A little bit of wilting is normal for outdoor succulents in the winter. Our Sempervivum always have fairly flexible leaves through winter, but perk right back up in spring. But frost damage also presents as a limpness, with an added translucency to the leaves. If this is the case, they are unlikely to recover.

I live in Michigan. Our house is situated in a remote area surrounded by trees. There are chipmunks, black squirrels, wild turkeys, deer, and bears in this area. When I lived in Ohio, cats would defecate and squirrels would destroy the plants. I was working on a fairy garden and decided that I couldn't control these animals, so I quit working on it. I'd like to plant some hens and chicks, but I'm afraid that this habitat isn't ideal. What are your thoughts on this?

Ooh that is a lot to contend with! In our demo garden we've had luck with pest deterrents like Bonide and ultra sonic audio devices. Having a dog about can help too. Good luck!

What about Cold 🥶 Night's -w-strong Winds 🌬️? My Aloe's do okay but alas certain ones get a little kinda bruised but alas I think 🤔 they look again okay. Any tips. You can get one of those garden blankets for it. I'm in Arizona (kingman) and my agave that isn't for this zone does pretty well if I blanket it when it's really cold. Like under 35

Cynthia's right! A ground cloth, row cover, or a bed sheet will help cut down on wind chill

@@Mountaincrestgardens My Blue Elf Aloe's are doing "Better since the Daytime Temperature 🌡️ and" Warmer/Sunnier 🌞" Afternoons they're starting to send up "Flowers" but alas my "Starfish Aloe" still looks not so good. However the inner fleshy stems look Good. So I am "Hopeful that as soon as the Weather gets truly Warmer "it will be okay 👍. I noticed that the"Regular Aloe's " seem rather lifeless too". But alas they too have started to send up "Flower stalks ". Wow what a change from just a "week ago". Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋🍰🎂🥳🎉🎈🥂🎊 Man".
