Has an auto retract , you don’t have to hold the control back … hard to get used to after using an older style splitter for years lol

It does! But I don't always need it to retract the full way so I like to stop it. Then I find myself stopping it too much lol. Its still better than swinging a maul.

I have the very same splitter, IF you want to do yourself a big favor... get the table that bolts on the side, it is a bit over priced for it's size, but functions very well, will save you a lot of work picking up the splits on the other side of the machine from where you stand, also make a dern good guard for the engine , air cleaner,

Since filming, I've gotten the table and MAN you're right. That thing makes life SO much easier.

if you can split a 12 " log ,you can split the 2 halves at once

If youre referring to the 4 way, it's not that the splitter cant handle it, the 4way cant. Apparently it bends.

You're right that this can split at once the two halves of a 12" log -- I can't find specs for the length of the splitting wedge itself, but it's usually 7-8" on a machine of this size. Because that's more than half of 12, you have some wedge going into the top piece. This machine can split a 24" log, but does that mean it can split the two halves at once? It has enough tonnage, but the wedge isn't long enough to reach up into the second pieces.

Holy cow, you got a major smokin' deal on that machine -- good for you! I'm shopping around for a gas splitter now but there aren't any good sales to be found. Excellent review -- thanks for sharing!

@@JohnWCH By an amazing stroke of luck I discovered and bought one of the last three 25 ton Brute (built by YTL -- same company builds County Line) machines in the country at Menards at a screaming deal ($765 after rebate). I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a 4-way wedge. I drove over 300 miles (one way) to pick it up, but I was able to see some customers along the way so all travel expenses were paid for. I just finished assembling it last night and I'll say I had to take an ibuprofen pill before bed to help out my lower back (that thing is heavy).

Nice! And it sure is! If I didn't have the tractor to move it around, I'd be in trouble.

@@JohnWCH I had to use my 40hp Mahindra front end loader to lift and move the cylinder piece from the trailer to the garage for assembly. I should have used the tractor to stand the cylinder up on its end, but l had put the tractor away and was too lazy to move stuff around and get it out, plus it was raining. I used a floor jack and a block of wood to raise the cylinder high enough that I could get leverage to lift and stand it up by hand (and back). Once that lifting motion is started there was no turning back and fortunately there were no issues. Once the cylinder was vertical everything else was easy as pie. I will say that the 9.5 Briggs & Stratton engine fired up on the first pull and has done so in the 10 or so times since then, whether the engine is cold (full choke) or warm (half choke). So far the splitter hasn't even slowed down on any log I've tried and I'm very pleased with the purchase. I did add a crank tongue jack with wheel to make it easier to move around the garage and hook it up to our ATV which helps out the back.
