Day 5: Clean up to 110bpm, progress on 120bpm, can do it all of the time but quite messy. Progressing slower than I'd like but it's okay I trust the process and am practicing other things in parallel Day 6: Not the best day, barely any progress from day 5, feels slightly worse as well. Maybe it's just a bad day, ill keep practicing and might do an hour of it instead of 30mins Day 7: Still stuck on the 120 bpm :( I am sure its the picking hand that is not able to keep up so i am focusing on this hand while practicing, still not giving up and practicing an hour instead of 30

I am an experienced guitar player and found this video. I wish it would have been around a long time ago because I wouldn't have had to learn the hard way. For beginner guitarists, this video will help you to learn faster alternate picking without having to learn how to do it on your own (save you a lot of time and you don't have to go back and relearn to fix mistakes you are making). I highly recommend this video - and thank Ozz for putting it up. Great video lesson!

Decided I need to really hone in my picking technique because I've gotten stuck around 140-150bpm 16th notes for over a decade now. Really focusing on moving my wrist, not my forearm, and keeping as little tension as possible in my wrist. I'm going to do this 4 week program and focus on building muscle memory to stay relaxed at higher bpm. Today my wrist just wanted to lock up and get sloppy at 160 bpm.

In this situation is it best to keep going a bit slower and playing cleanly? Building up by even just 2 bpm at a time to maintain perfect technique? My understanding of what he said at the beginning is that it is better to play clean than fast. I've been stuck at an intermediate level of playing for ages and thinking I need to slow right down and get things perfect to move forward.

day 4: ... I've touched 220 and bearing down on 230... Waiting for the sun to melt my wings... I'm doing this on an acoustic guitar so I imagine I'd do better on my RG... if it wasn't in pieces. This isn't the only 30 day video I'm doing, btw, but I do this one twice through or more depending on if I feel like restarting on my first or second mistake. If I'm near my max, I play them out until it's too sloppy to be doing anything constructive, just to give my fingers and arm some experience at the higher speeds. I'm also doing a chromatic 4/16ths vid, and another 3/16ths video that runs along most of the neck. I spend about 20-30 mins a day practicing but I'm seeing improvement in all of them. Also... I've been listening to Vai and playing guitar for 20 years... I'm 35, so I've been ready to finally put the time in to control my uselessly sloppy unguided shredding. Not everyone has the same experience, nor time, and will almost certainly not progress as fast without more of both of those. But it'll work eventually and much faster than twenty years with patience. This video is my favorite of the three but only because I know where it's going in the next three videos. I did try them but decided not to just skip to the third and fourth. By the end of the month... I'm aiming to be dang close to maxing out. That'll be as fast as I'll ever play though lol It's just warmups and songs after this month lol

Hello Ozz, thanks for the exercise! Been following the program for 4 days now, I got 2 questions if you don't mind: 1) In the video it looks like you don't rest your hand on the guitar, but when I play, I feel the urge to rest my hand on the guitar, as my picking goes looser if I don't. What would your advise be on this? 2) As the exercise gets faster, it becomes harder to do downstroke on E string, then upstroke on B string, becuase we have to cover double the distance compared to doing upstroke on E string, then downstroke on B string. That's why I have to switch to upstroke - E downstroke - B order after around 210 bpm. Is it okay to switch picking order in the middle of the lick? Because I feel like I miss one or two notes when I do. Thanks in advance!

I just started doing this and 160 bpm is my limit, I can't play as fast as I would like to... are you telling me that this is normal and by practicing in slower bpms Ill eventually be able to make it faster?

So the idea here is to play this at each of the different tempo's like he does to get everything faster? He says to do it for a half hour so I've been doing it on the low E & A, D & G, & B & high E. Doe that sound like a good method? The low E & A strings for me at least are harder to pick fast than the high strings.

Just practice one week and jump to upcoming weeks' videos. They have lower string positions🤘

As a drummer I think improving speed requires an increase of the time per day also.

Wow in struggling at 110/120 bpm. Exercise is a lot harder than it looks. Really good for training picking though, great choice.
