I think 1 coat of primer before painting a darker color might help eliminate the need for 3 coats of the more expensive paint. And provide a little more durability on a frequently used item. Also would suggest using a wood conditioner on stripped wood to get a more even finish and you won't have to work so fast with the stain.

I really like the end result of the table but I was a bit confused that you chose not to do the repair on the extensions to ensure that they are level with the main table. Looks like it won't take much to make that work. I really like the blue and the TN Whiskey stain together. Hope the chairs are a win for you!

I absolutely LOVE that type of table with the built-in leaves, and I also love the drop-leaf tables. My grandparents had one similar to yours, with the built-in leaves but much older than yours. It belonged to my great-grandmother and was passed to my Nana. My Mom has it now, and it will be mine one day!

I love what you have done to this table! The best table I ever bought was a maple one from ikea! It’s round when you sit 4 at it, then the middle opens to bring the leaf up and then it becomes oval! Best £200 I ever spent! That was 23 years ago and it’s still going strong!

There isn't a problem. The table is designed so when you pull the leaves out, they come out a couple inches past the end of the main table. Then you lift up and push the leaves back in, and everything lines up. But if you do that, you can't reach all the edges, which needed to be finished too. You can see it working properly at 5:55

I have a similar table design but mine is older, has barley twist legs and planks instead smooth services. My problem was that the skirt was lower on one side than the other. The solution for us was to lift the entire table using bun feet at the bottom. Matching the finish was the hardest part, but now you can’t tell and the table is 2 5/8” taller.

It's great that you got a call about the chairs. They'll go well with the table. I had a table in the same pull out leaves/extensions. I believe it was probably oak as well, but stained a dark walnutie color. I really wish I still had it. (Bummer.) Were you intending for the two pieces to match? (Or did I misunderstand?.) If you used the same stain on both pieces, then either they didn't accept the stain the same &/or they are two different woods because they don't match. Or is my monitor crazy?

The table looks great! Just curious, why did you switch to the SurfPrep orbital sander? Does it have more power than the Ryobi or Dewalt orbital? I just never understood why I would see furniture flippers that owned a 3x4 SurfPrep would also use an orbital from them. That just seems like it would be a waste of money to have both SurfPrep sanders.

What kind of wood is that? I have a teak table with similar extensions about 50 years old.. Very handy not to have to have leaves that have to be stored elsewhere. My leaves come out level though. Also mine is oiled only, no clear coat and has been really easy to maintain. . What kind of finish is that that is so difficult to sand off?
