Like you say Princess Diana loved "Diorissimo" and for a while she used Quelques Fleurs. She also very much liked Penthaligon's "Bluebell". Other favourites of hers as she became more mature is Guerlain's "Mitsouko", Hermes "21 Faubourg" and Van Cleef & Arpels "First". Some say she used Lanvin "Arpege" as well. In my opinion all these perfumes seem excellent for her.

I can imagine her wearing all of those too, for sure. The Queen allegedly wore Guerlain's 'L'Heure Bleue' and I can TOTALLY picture her in her tweeds and pearls smelling like that as she softly padded down the carpet in her custom made court shoes. I love hearing about what public figures wore/wear. I'm fascinated by other people in general, famous or not.

I love it when you provide info on less commercialised perfumes and original version of its current ones. I had anais anais, Coco, Tresor , Dune before but I don’t mind repeating . The smell of Perfumes in the 90s, 80s and earlier yrs are so original to the brands even when they used same ingredients . They also last longer. Perfumes nowadays don’t last long and smell similar to each other.

@@MZ2023_ , I wholeheartedly agree. Today's perfumes are very different. In my opinion they all follow the same "route" or scent "gateway". None of them are interesting or are awakening the senses. They are also very simple in structure. They are often made of one or two, maybe three ingredients. If they have five ingredients it would be extraordinary. They have a top note and a bottom note. Nothing more. The vintage perfumes had a layer of many ingredients which unfolded like a veil. That's what's makes them so exciting and unique. The brand *noses* of the past are gone. Sadly very important skills and knowledge of the past seems to have dissappeared with them.

I simply adore the Classic scents, some people say they smell old fashioned or old lady, but not me it is amazing in the 1980s and 1990s new perfume releases were all so different….I was lucky enough to be working in the perfume / beauty business at the time …nowadays Perfumes even Niche perfumes disappoint me, with so many smelling same same ! ..with very little artistry involved…give me Chanel No5 , Chanel CoCo, Opium, madam Roches, Rive Gauche …original Miss Dior was my signature scent for years, the most beautiful Chypre……. I also wore Diorissimo, Dioressence, and Diorella, …. In my humble opinion…artistry in modern perfume can be still found in the houses of Guerlain and Hermes….They still take chances with their formulas coming up with unique smelling perfumes …

The photo of the bottle displayed for Houbigant Fougere Royale is actually the 2010 reimagined version. It is nothing like the original 1882 version, which was discontinued decades ago. The 2010 version is not just a reformulation of the 1882 DNA, its completely different. In my mind, it was created from the perspective of how the fougere would be created given modern materials, perfumery technique, and aesthetics. As if Paul Parque, the perfumer of the 1882 version, was born in the 1960's and created the 2010 version. Rodrigo Flores-Roux is the actual perfumer of the 2010 ver. I have it and love it. But if you want to know in general terms what the 1882 original smelled like, it might be better to get your nose on Mouchoir de Monsieur by Guerlain (1904) or even Jicky.

I loved your video! Many of the perfumes that you showed I don't know, mostly because they are not sold here in Brazil. Some of them, otherwise, I do know and I wore, like Fidji, Miss Dior Originale (I wore on my wedding!), Amarige (my youngest daughter loves this one), Poême, LouLou and Diorissimo, who I love and have now. I love your reviews because they are out of common, very not cliché and you talk about perfumes who are exclusives. I suggest you to do some videos detailing those iconic perfumes, pleferably the most vintage ones. A brazilian kiss to you! 😘💛💚

I blind bought First by Van Cleef. The opening is so strong in aldehyde, I almost regretted buying it….then 30 mins later omg the magic happened in the drydown! It is so beautiful, elegant and classy scent. Thank you for sharing and I am making a list of your iconic recommendations 😍

Glad you like it. Always wait 20 minutes to try a perfume. Most of the time the dry down is very different than the opening, especially for aldehyde perfumes because it is 100% synthetic and is more sensible to the skin.

Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant was Dita Von Teese's beloved signature fragrance for decades, and also the fragrance Princess Diana wore on her wedding day. It's not for me as the muguet/lily of the valley note is just too mumsie-early '80s for my tastes (I'm shocked that Dita wore this as it powerfully conjures up the 1980s flounce, not her chic 1940s and 1950s style). Next to Chanel No. 5 Marilyn Monroe bought for herself Lanvin's Arpege, which no longer smells the way it used to, sadly. I remember the way it smelled in the 1980s and it was such a chic, beautifully made fragrance back then. I second Cuir de Russie for any woman who is searching for a stunning leather fragrance. Your list here was SENSATIONAL! You really got all the vintage greats covered here, I totally agree with this list. Molinard's Habanita is the next one on my list to try, thank you for reminding me to seek out a sample as soon as I can.

Love this! Just a question: Have you ever come across Coty's "Emeraude" ? It's said to initially have been the favourite of Madame Guerlain and that Monseur Guerlain made "Shalimar" as a nod to "Emeraude". Though Shalimar forever will stand firmly as the unique masterpiece it is, the vintage "Emeraude" is really very special. Soft, deep green notes with an opulent, elegant sweetness. It's seductive and alluring.

This is wonderful, formidable, Alice! I made a list of the ones I want to try. I prefer chypre, tabac, oud, vanilla, and iris notes. I just bought L'Heure Bleu, Nahema, and Petite Robe Noire because I collect Guerlain -- my signature is Jicky. But, you have reminded me of so many others. My father was a perfumer and so I know a lot about the ingredients in perfumes but you have reminded me of those I have forgotten. I love Bal a Versailles and Shalimar. I have several bottles of Joy that my mother left me. I also love Tweed by Lentheric and don't think it is made anymore, but I have a bottle that I keep sealed. So many to add to my collection now, thank you, thank you!

08:35 lol I use to wear amarige when I was 14, 15, 16…. Yikes I must be an old soul. Also, on a trip to Egypt, I was introduced to an oil (forget the name), it reminded me so much of amarige; probably an oil based on tuberose. Alice, did you ever smell Bvlgari pour Femme? I used it in the late 2000’s but by the mid 2010’s it smelled slightly different. Now it’s discontinued. Just wondering if you had any thoughts on it or its supposed replacement. delighted to see so many of my beloved fragrances on this list.

Mature and sophisticated is not the same thing. I think Chanel 5 is not only mature, but smells like old ladies. I don't think it's particularly sophisticated, maybe for that time it was. For today, it's just heavy and l know many, many women who think it's outdated, heavy and... stinks. Same for Au de soir. Not sophisticated. Heavy and doesn't smell good. Not very sophisticated There are better ways to take the same ingredients and make a nicer, fresher scent with them.

"many women" yah many women are half naked, no standards and wear tacky cheap perfumes. I prefer to smell an old lady than a young cheap one. Most today perfumes stinks and smell sweet and heavy. Would not even spray to my dog. They are insult to the perfume industry. But guess what? money money money because the masse buy it. Mass people are not sophisticated because sophistication is rare. What is rare is expensive and priceless.
