A couple hours in and it's really fun to watch a chill and fun tongue in cheek adult discovering the game. Really like how the chat is respectful about not shouting at their screens and constantly giving tips that many know by heart, for many that were around 10 when the game came out, pokemon knowledge is like the Konami code of our generation. Also Pikachu's encounter rate in the forest is 5% and you got it first try and it critted twice in a row the first two times you attacked... blessed rng.

@@TorneOnDemand I think a lot of people downplay the game a lot because it was so heavily marketed to kids. But it still has enough strategy and difficulty even for adults. I quit playing after red and blue and then came back to the series with generation IV. I would love to see you do a play through of Platinum. That’s my favorite out of the whole series to date.

darn wish i had found you when you were streaming this. text speed just changes how fast the text appears on screen, so you still wont miss anything, and shift or set changes if the game gives you a free swap when you KO an enemy Pokemon, for a first time or just casual play through i would say leave it on shift.

Typically my chat doesn't give me any information when I'm doing a first playthrough of something, even if I beg for it. As it turns out with this entire playthrough, I got extremely lucky in a lot of ways, despite knowing next to nothing about the series.

@@TorneOnDemandI get it, it's also really fun watching someone play a game I'm relatively familiar with going through blind. But I also feel like the quality of life/set up type stuff could just make a game more enjoyable for the player. Though text speed is not terribly important unless you're very impatient. Very fun watching this so far though

i'm sure someone's told you by now, but at the beginning you were misinformed, however i'm commenting at the start of this video before watching all the way through. Shift allows you to shift between Pokémon during a trainer battle whenever your opponent is sending a new one Set locks your team order in place, you can manually shift to another Pokémon like normal, but of course it costs you your move for that turn. So it's like upping the difficulty just by a little. With no real difficulty settings for the game, there are some other ways that fans of the games have made the games a higher difficulty. Such as playing with a type disadvantage, or the popular "nuzlocke" that includes homemade rules that include level caps on your Pokémon and perma-death'ing your Pokémon when they faint. Anyway, it's always cool to see people get introduced to the games, Blue was my first back in my childhood. So it's great to tune in.

Gonna be honest with you, I played this so long ago that I don't remember if anything was ever clarified. But knowing my chat, they like to see me suffer and figure things out for myself, so probably not 🤣

The difference between Shift and Set is whether or not you can switch your pokemon when you defeat your opponent's. If set to shift, you'll be told what your opponent is about to send out and whether you want to change accordingly. If "set" you won't be prompted and they'll simply toss out the next Mon. You can change the setting at any point too.
