Good work for a none electrician. Next time take a minute to make a better arrangement on wiring and also on terminations on lugs. To a better result use Crimping terminals and also important Torque. 400 amp could burn buss if is not torque correctly. Wires look better straight in the connector or lugs.

Good job...but your weather head tails should have been a minimum of 3 ft for the utility to connect to, and the neutral being completely stripped at the weather head. I am surprised the inspectors didn't catch that, I usually leave about 4 to 6 feet, that 4-0 is hard to cut up in the air. I ran my grounding rods and grounds like you did and got dinged because I was told code specifies two separate grounding, one to each rod. I didn't argue, just satisfied him. Didn't see any AFCI/GFCI breakers. You did well my friend! You should get your license and charge accordingly!

Hard core homeowners install. In the area I live the nolox anti oxidant is mot required when using copper only Aluminum conductors. We also require 24 inch depth of burial
@beckyschwantes5287

The lugs are machined from aluminum square stock. Are you sure there is no code addressing this? No Matter we are talking about 400 amps copper and aluminum will oxidize over time and that could lead to component failure.

Subtle detail, the second main disconnect breaker you installed looks like a QN (no R) rather than QNRH (factory installed main). I think you used that one because you wanted the handles going in the same direction for on and off. The spec sheet says use QNRH, but that seems weird. Your way may be better.

Would it be possible to install a 400 amp service panel with a 200 amp subpanel on a residential property??
@fullmetaltoolbox1412

That is essentially what a 400 amp is on residential. This panel is a split 200A at panel and connects to another 200A inside. The main cut off switch for the other panel is the only thing that is inside this Main

I was told I could just get a second service line from Duke Energy, have a second meter and a 2nd 200amp service main breaker panel...I can get an additional 200amp panel and strip my old panel down to just be a junction box where I can split my load in a organized fashion to the two different main breaker boxes. Which would then not only have more space to add but be more even and less stress on one panel. I'm currently on a fully maxed out 110% used 200amp panel in my 3000sq ft house. 2 3ton a/c units, 2 tankless water heaters, pool pump, shed/workshop, and of course my kitchen, laundry etc. I want to be able to remodel my kitchen and add whatever I want which right now I cant so im hoping to be able to

@ottoroth9377

DcDouglass84..anything over 2200 sq ft I usually put in a 400 amp service and split the run to 200 amp divided up...things run easier that way, cheaper too on the bill. The more amps, the cheaper the usage because nothing is pulling a lot from one panel, and with everything used runs on electric, heavy draws, especially heating and cooling split systems, tank-less water heaters, space heaters, TV's, PC's, etc, that's why now I put that individual room on one circuit, and add a couple 20 amp individual circuits per room for space heaters without fear of overloading. Lighting separate from outlets also. I know, overkill...but a good thing for safety in case of a tripped outlet run! Of course, AFCI and GFCI protection!

@@fullmetaltoolbox1412 that is how i believe the transfer switch is. I believe to be so there totally isolated. Good idea i think just a precaution in case power is out it doesnt go back across transformer ground. Some codes u have to to have a means of all like a four pole breaker there is a reason the code does state that u have to have all shut off. I believe cuz spikes in the neutral do to unbalanced loads in 3 phase not so much single.
