I like your method and did similar myself, line up the gasket with the heads, tape it down (or tack with permatex like you did) set the intake and torque it down then i traced where the gasket was hanging out over the lower intake to match it back up for porting! Looks like Holley leaves a lot of meat in there for porting!

yup, they definetely did the casting for a stock style port. I'd much prefer this than it be oversized. last thing you want is that air to slam into the head before going into the port.

If you develop leaks at the valve cover, try the OEM gasket. They NEVER leak. 🤷♂️ just saying

@@callofgeorgebtw, how'd your port work come out? My very first intake was Saleen upper and 302 truck lower from my little brother's SN95 Saleen. Jesus....25 years ago. Anyway, if you haven't done it yet....may I suggest a couple of things. First use ferrous carbide burrs. Double cut to be exact. They'll remove less material, but until you learn the feel of the cutting tool it's best to take baby steps. Second, an electric die grinder with variable speed control. I have a 20 year old Makita that I've overhauled countless times, but the smaller Makita works better with long shank burrs. Just for future reference if you ever get into more porting. Headgames has great burrs and they use the Makita I'm talking about.

@@arturozarate1752 i already did it. wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either.. I'm too impatient. i used an air die grinder. i needed to purchase the long shanks but didn't. made the ones i had work. and i have that exact makita bookmarked. i tried to match exact and i should have gone a bit undersized so i didn't create a lip. so theres a small lip showing in a few areas that'll cause some turbulance.
