I want to give you a taste of how you can draw a good deal of sixfold Islamic geometric patterns on an Isometric grid, a tiling of equilateral triangles. This grid can be drawn using a compass and ruler on different scales. If you don’t wish to draw it, you can easily print, buy or borrow this paper also known as “triangular dotted paper” found in many a maths department’s store cupboard!

It enables you to do a general search, I picked the final option under “All angles of the pattern a multiple of:” 60 degrees, pressed “Submit” and received images of 202 patterns, all ones that can be drawn on Isometric paper - amazing!
