Thanks for another enjoyable video Tim. Great to see the black 5 looking so splendid, and to pause for thought for all those who make that possible, hats off to them all for helping these locomotives serve longer in preservation than they did in main line service, and to you for helping us enjoy seeing them. Magic!

Oh wow Tim, you certainly captured a lot in just over the 23 minutes which you posted. from very nasty weather to the lovely sights of a Black 5…Like you i have never ever seen 2 diesels on the ‘back end’ before! I certainly would not have liked standing on that ‘very overcrowded’ train, absolutely no fun at all. No doubt there was no trolley service due to blocked gangways… been there before a few times but no desire to repeat that ever again. Fantastic vlog Tim, so entertaining…

Made it out to armarthaite in the rain to see it heading towards Carlisle. was lucky to see it at Carlisle on my way back from armathaite and on its return journey. if i might add its odd to see two 47s and such a random mish mash of carriages too.

Really a very good video Tim not so good about the heavy rain but at least it stopped raining for raining for you to film the stream train outside and a few other trains just a question why was one of the class 68 trains looking like it hadn’t been cleaned in months is that for reason or not Tim and it was interesting seeing the two class 47S diesel trains so very well done

A good day out despite the rain West Coast must be getting cautious of having failures using 2 x diesel boxes. I got a good soaking on this day, the weather changed quickly from blue sky to grey mist and a downpour fooling me into staying longer than I would if it had been looking like rain was coming.

It was obviously very changeable and dependent on location. I had a brief chat with Mick Rawlins who had driven the train from Hellifield to Carlisle and he assured me that it had been perfectly OK up on the high fells but that, even from far off, he could see that it was very different over Carlisle!

Thanks for that video, Tim, despite the weather! Which is similar at the moment in Chatham!

Well, at least the rain held off for my time at Corby Gates. I don't know what I'd have done if it had rained during that time - Wetheral station is an attractive place but, on a tight curve, it's not a good spot for filming a passing train. Best wishes to Chatham - it's a long time since I visited the museum there.

Thank you. There aren't many places where you can get as close to a moving train. Add in the signal box and gates and - yes - it is an interesting location for filming.

Did the 44871 go from Carisle, then down the ECML to Derby? Cos I live righht on the ECML at Darlington, and a steamer with the pullman carriages went past at about 7pm.

The train passed through Darlington at 6.45 so I presume that's what you saw. The carriages, incidentally, were not Pullman coaches but BR standard Mark 2s which date from after the steam age. 44871 was scheduled to haul the train as far as Milford loop near Ferrybridge, where the diesel took over.
