I purchased a 4.5 acre parcel of land outside of Corning New York. On it is an old 80s mobile home and a garage. I bought the property because all of the utilities were already on the property. The mobile I will disassemble eventually using what I can, scrapping what is scrapable, burning some and dumping the rest. It's the garage I am turning into a home for me. An existing 16 foot by 24 foot garage with a cement floor, framed walls and 2/6 framed roof. At present I am finishing an 1857 renovation that I will put on the market in August after I move into this small home. It's exciting because I have wanted to downsize all I could to move overseas. This was the perfect way for me to do that. Everything will be sold or given away that will not fit into this space. I am reusing antique furniture and as much as I could from my present living space and renovation. This space will include smaller appliances with a big open floor plan. The only framing will be the bathroom. The home will contain a perfectly suitable kitchen with a gas stove, refrigerator, lovely copper sink with butcher block counter tops and antique furniture as the cabinets. The bathroom will have a 38 inch by 38 inch corner glass shower, a washer/dryer, sink and toilet with a sliding antique door. the bedroom will be in an open nook. The closet and shelves will be the entire expanse from the entry door to the front of the home where the big 5x8 window has been put in . My office will be customized into a 3 foot nook in the back SE corner of the structure. The interior walls will all be galvanized 26 gauge metal roofing for the exception of the vaulted ceiling and front of the loft space which will be thin luan board. The bathroom exterior will be tongue and grove wood flooring vertical and the interior of the bathroom will be sheet rock.
This project has taken months to design and hopefully will be completed by August so I can move in and sell my historic renovation. My plan is to go overseas mid November after my property sells
Follow this amazing process of turning a simple garage into a magnificent and efficient custom space
