@AB-80X
Жыл бұрын
@@FirstLast-tx3yj An LS has a 55mm cam so yes, much larger than a BBC. Also, the valve train geometry of an LS is better off the bat than that of a BBC. The BBC is a much older design and thus it just have some different issues. That said, you have to factor in that some of the power here comes from high compression and oxygenated fuel. Also, a 632 is and will always be a bit of an oddball size with some inherent design flaws. There's a reason why many of us choose a 572, 582, or even 598. The 632 has so much windage that oiling can easily become a challenge. If you build a 565 or 582, you can make the same power as reliably as this if you follow the same route. That means 55mm cam, shaft rockers, proper cam design, good lifters, sorted oiling etc. A BBC can outperform an LS both in terms of power and reliability, but you have to build it properly to get rid of some of those inherent flaws and issues of the BBC.

With all due respect, I must say that the dyno seems a bit optimistic - over 140 nm/liter on a naturally aspirated engine, even one running on C16, while not having to drive the accessories, seems quite high! Good point. What made me a little suss of those figures are other small blocks I've seen making similar horsepower with similar cubic inches. They generally have a cylinder head with a 3.2" - 3.8" minimal cross sectional area with camshafts with anywhere from .900 to over an inch of lift. With that cylinder head combo and camshaft they usually make peak HP in the 8200-8500rpm range. For them to do it by 7000rpm, they must be years ahead of everyone out there

For those whose engine knowledge is not on a "professional" level, torque per cubic inch is simplest/quick and dirty way to tell if an N/A engine's dyno numbers are truly realistic or not. Folks who know engine math will notice right off the bat that these torque per inch numbers are basically impossible on an engine package that is not R&D'd for a pretty significant amount time, so in short... this dyno reads high.
@AB-80X
Жыл бұрын
You're not factoring in the Q16 and compression, never mind the big heads. My old 548 N/A made similar specific torque and I always look for pretty conservative numbers. I think it's safe to say that SME's track record for power and speed on the track tells you that his engines make power. Had this been an 11:1 engine with wet sump oiling, a hydraulic cam, a BR3 or BR7 15 or 12 degree head etc, yes, then I'd say between 1.43 and 1.48 for the displacement vs. torque ratio, but it isn't. It's high compression and it runs oxygenated fuel with a healthy solid roller cam, dry sump oiling, big heads etc. Looking at the peak spread of this thing and how it makes power, this is in fact bang on for what a big dry sumped LS with race heads, Q16 and high compression should make. Before throwing your "expert advice" around and feeling the need to piss on other peoples achievements and parade, maybe stop and think for a bit. Not sure if this was because you are jealous or just being generally negative, but it was uncalled for.
@nickozetti952

You have to factor in the Q16. That makes one hell of a difference. Besides, Steve used to build pro stock engines back in his early days. He knows how to make N/A power. But think about this. He has no rule book to follow. Pro Stock does. Also, Pro Stock makes power in a different way and their peak specific power is much greater. Q16 can increase the torque to power ratio by .1 or more if done right. I used to run a N/A 548 before building my current blower setup, and when I switched to dry sump, Q16, and spent three days on a dyno getting my quench spot on, my torque to displacement ratio went from about 1.52 to 1.65. @AB-80X
Жыл бұрын
@@moparjohan Yes that is a no rule book. He can do what ever he wants to achieve those goals. You have to distinguish between rules and goals. Not sure what you think you accomplish by being so condescending? Have you actually built anything that ran on Q16? It has zero to do with magic, I hope you understand that as well. Reality is that Q16 can in some cases increase power with 5-7%, That has crap all to do with what you or I "think" and everything to do with what is actually possible. No, off the top of my head I cannot remember the de facto BTU of Q16, but so what? In its own right it's an arbitrary number. We might as well discuss SAE correction vs. STP in relation to Pro Stock as SAE is commonly used there. Would you be happier if we talked about this engine making 775 lb ft of torque? Would it soothe your mind if we also did a conservative discount of the Q16 and called it 745 lb. ft on C16 SAE? Now we are getting somewhere where we can compare to the Pro Stock number. And finally, why don't we also look at what kind of shift in torque and hp there would be if we set this engine up to spin at 11k rpm? Torque would drop significantly while hp would go up quite a bit. You did not hurt anyone, don't flatter yourself. But you think you have all the answers and know everything it would seem. If your figures are accurate that's VERY impressive. I'm from the UK and we work in in litres. 128bhp / litre NA is a lot.

It is a lot, but this engine has also pulled out all the stops to increase efficiency. Dry sump oiling which also works as a vacuum pump, oxygenated fuel and high compression. It all adds up.

Anybody know if the injector location makes a difference to power?? I've got a similar design inlet manifold, with the two sets of injector bosses and was going to use the lower ones, hence the question.

Higher up vaporizes the fuel better. More power, better gas milage

You should always choose the placement that shoots the fuel as direct at the back of the valve as possible.
