We have India's oldest zoo Alipur zoo , oldest museum, Oldest and largest Library, Largest science City in Asia , largest urban park, hanging restaurant, Most of the singer of bollywood are Bengali, and most of the Artist (drawing) , dancing,food , sports. India's biggest football/athletic stadium, largest planetarium in Asia . Kolkata is the only city that got a position on the list of the best cities for fast food in the world. Durga Puja is literally THE BIGGEST ART EXHIBITION of the world. And also the biggest exhibition of local street foods 😂 It's an understatement to say Kolkata is an artistic epicenter. Every art form is so supremely celebrated in Bengal. Music, art, film, dance, food, handicrafts, architecture etc etc. Every district has its own flavour, its own art and music and more to show. The love for Art is so deeply embedded that most Bengalis define happiness as listening to music by the river while sipping on some tea 😂 Or going to some art exhibition or fish festival lol Cafe's are often on a competition (like in Durga Puja) to display how artistic they can be. Exploring just Bengal on it's own completely takes a lott of time. But if one does it, they learn to know and love a lot more about Art in all forms possible. ❤❤❤

Nice rundown of our city. People used to know Kolkata due to all wrong reasons Communism, protests etc recently they know about Durga Puja and Bengali Food (fair enough) but you pinned the most important part i.e. our Culture. Though you didn't touch the part where you said you have a theatre background. Kolkata is a hub of theatre and has a history of Filmmaking. I hope you have heard about Satyajit Ray. The two most important part of our (Indian Bengali) culture is Music and Literature. It is difficult to take part in our literature world as a non-bengali only you can search about Rabindranath Tagore but the music part is for all to cherish. Who are the topmost Indian musicians you have heard of? Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ud. Ali Akbar, Pt. Nikhil Banerjee, Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra.. all are Bengalis. Come again..

Yes, I'm so glad it's gaining a new sense of identity beyond communism, etc. I got a whole theatrical experience in the tour! Hah! My head is reeling from all those images played quickly one after another. Only the narrative put it together, somehow. The point is, you cannot rush Kolkata. You have to get into the rhythm of it, the rhythm of slowness. If you do not waste your time in Kolkata, that means you haven't earned your experiences here in Kolkata. A booked tour for a day or two won't do it.
@Get.Lost.Travel
11 күн бұрын
I like that perspective! Unfortunately time is just as limited of a resource (even moreso!) than money, so that's not a luxury we all have. But it's interesting to me to think of any Indian city as "slow", it's hard to wrap my mind around compared to the things I'm used to, but I love the thought of it!

some may wonder how come the 2nd city of Empire could today be in such dilapidated condition , it has multitude of reasons, in 1946 , 10k hindus were murdered in streets by mohammedans, from 20th century starting itself , the immigration of East Bengalis began by 1947 it started en masse, the infrastructure couldnt support that, the Indian govt was headed by a worthless MI6 agent so no improvement happened from then on...then comes age of political turmoil two political parties killing each other until 70s...meanwhile immigration from east increased to now millions thanks to Pakistani gen0ciders! after which a Left govt was elected and thus true downfall of the city and the region began..everything possible ,they did to deindustrialize the place for 3 decades !!the place got poorer and no improvement happened...from that to now not much has changed, educated class left the place and poor remained and city started crumbling

That was a well-articulated, concise, and engaging 9 min video. Always pleasant to hear different perspectives and viewpoints from first time visitors.. While today's Kolkata has a reputation for a calmer, slower pace compared to cities like Mumbai and Delhi, it never fails to fill your heart and stomach, leaving you with a tapestry of sweet, dusty memories to carry with you when you leave it behind. Not just because it is my home, but because it truly is the city of joy.

Thank you for visiting & loving Kolkata. Please visit Kolkata & see how she celebrates Christmas. You will find "Hindus standing in queue to buy cakes from a Jewish bakery (Nahoum’s bakery), made by Muslim chefs, to celebrate a Christian festival." It'll be all decked up in lights & even ppl of Kolkata visit Churches on 25th. It's happy vibes during that time as well all around. It's a big festival.

The real art and architecture of Indian styles which goes back thousands of years can actually be seen in Central India in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Then there are states like Bihar, Odisha where you can find some of it as well. kolkata was a center of art and kind of indian rennaisance during the british rule but today's Kolkata is one of the most intellectually bankrupt areas in India still living in the glories of colonial times although they dont understand that they were the oppressed majority but find it brag worthy to show off british achievements

I was born in Kolkata and then travelled all over the world after completing college. I miss so many things about the city, the park street night life, the book fair, nandan, academy of fine arts, the drama shows, the food, hustle bustle etc. Now that I am in the fag end of my career, I really feel going back to my roots. Two things that bother me, first broken medical infra and second the political atmosphere.
