Lionels low heart rate always surprises me! Only 130BPM for a hard session like this when most people might be 160+BPM. Its so interesting to see how each individual athlete is different. Go Lionel!

I’m no elite but I’ve always had low heart rate. Highest I’ve ever hit is 172 in an XC race when I was younger. My hard sessions would be 140’s. I thought I was a freak until I saw Lionel’s heart rates.

Don't waste another day without investing in a nutritionist! As you mentioned before, when you had one, you had one of your best, if not the best, races ever. By that time, you knew yourself much less than you do now. I want to see you on every podium. Love you, man!

I am just a guy that enjoys bicycling and working on continually improving my health after years of not doing anything for it but since finding Lionel's channel I find that I feel more motivated. I like what seems like a no nonsense approach that he takes when he wants to reach a goal. I have to be like that with myself so that I don't talk myself out of things that I know that I want to accomplish. I really need to work on getting more sleep but I find that hard to do. It is sometimes hard to quiet my thoughts but I will keep pushing forward. I feel inspired when I come here and see Lionel's training videos and I just want to say thank you so, Thank you!

Inspiration 210%! I've just started running at age 49 after a long battle with drugs and alcohol. Jumping right into a 5k on the 20th. I'm a 16 minutes a mile guy at best. I've got a long way to go to. This 5k will be a learning experience for sure. I have no idea what I'm doing. Just guidance by different You Tube videos. Lionel and Nick Bare's are my main two. I love the grind. I'm at the very least going to hybrid train for the rest of my life. Love hitting walls and taking those steps long after. I'm addicted to it I think. I'm a recovering addict. Go figure. I'll be a runner til I die! GREAT VIDEO GUYS! THANK YOU!!

In would recommend getting a Garmin watch that has access to their training plans. Your watch will tell you exactly what to do based on your goals and current fitness. As you improve you can then add in a subscription to an AI coach like Humango. They have plan levels starting at $9.99/month that is a little more adaptive than Garmin plans based on how you feel on a given day and whether you miss a workout, etc. I am currently using the $29.99/month plan to train for a Half Ironman and it is working well so far. Way cheaper than a human coach, or a gym membership is how I justify it. Good luck in your fitness journey!

One thing I’d recommend super strongly: tracking of calories is fine; tracking of macronutrients is even more important. Looking at the 6000 kcal consumed I’d still argue that the protein intake is too low for someone with Lionel’s energy expenditure and recovery needs. Brilliant video and thanks!

Glad to see the nutrition is coming along. I haven’t personally done a lot of research on it, but I have heard some doctors that specialize in nutrition, say that whenever consuming protein that it is best to consume at least 30g at a time to signal to the body and keep it in an anabolic state. Might be beneficial to up the recovery protein shakes a little bit more to get to that 30g mark to get those wings in the pool.
@Zooga_Boy

And I've heard that your body can only really process 20g of protein at once, so I guess we either need to do some more fucking research or just back off and let the experts be experts.
