Looks like a project for the weekend. I like the adaptability of it.

Yes, very quick to make and I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of it. 🙂👍

Nice box! If you glue 2 layers of old conveyor belt or strips of old car tires to the back, it'll stop everything upto 24J. And it'll dampen the sound of the impact completely.

Sounds like the perfect solution. I think those clear plastic strip blinds they hang in warehouse doorways would work well too! 🙂👍

@@hftshooter might be. But tires and conveyor belts are threaded, which add a lot to the stopping power.

Love watching people make stuff 👍I put layers of quality fake grass with a good rubber backing in pellet traps, have used old carpet and clothing before but it smells when it gets wet,the grass can stay out whatever the weather, I'm sure if you've a local installer they'd have plenty of off cuts they'd want rid of 😉

Glue some magnets on the inside of the corners then use either magnets or bits of metal to hold the targets flat

Great job on the catchbox, another idea is to put some insulating foam inside glued on the boards for extra silence box. Great job👍

I just mounted a good quality pellet trap for paper targets on an adjustable tripod. I like to shoot on same hight level. Own the green Caldwell rest and it works fine for PCP and powder burners but not for springer use. I rather use a sand bag to lay my hand on for the artillery hold. I never shoot a springer directly from any rest. I see guys doing this and i tried it many times, but the best control and results i'd always get with both hands on the stock. Cheers!

I agree with you! I've never had much success with a springer off a bag or a bench. I always have to revert to shooting prone to get the best groups. 🙂👍

I use a 70L gas bottle cut in half filled with beach sand and memory foam at the end to hold the sand in very quite the foam lasts a long time I have a king-size mattress of it cut up ready to go. I also use it with my 22LR.

Deliberately made mine big enough to take A3 and A4 benchrest and zeroing targets. Also bought some charity shop baking trays, smashed flat, and zero chance of a pass-through😁👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Stuff it full with old rags and towels, I use an old bucket full of towels as back stop for chony.

Add a layer of plumbers putty on top for the wood backing.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that in a pellet catcher for a previous video. Works okay but it's messy and melts in the heat. The denim strips are working really well! 🙂👍

Very good project, thanks for sharing. Have you thought of those round magnets for holding the corners down when it's a bit breezy?
@hftshooter

Yes I have. It's been mentioned to me before, but I prefer clips as they don't fall off and get lost in the mud. I usually use thick card targets that are a little more manageable in the wind. 🙂👍

The best backstop you can use is lead itself. Line the back of the box with a couple of sheets of lead and instead of the pellets blowing through the wood or turning the rags into dust, the pellets themselves add to the lead rather than blow it away.

Good idea, but makes the box rather heavy! 😄

I reckon that you could use a large plastic flagon containing polystyrene bean-bag or packing beans. You could then separate the pellets from the fill by tipping the contents into water, skimming the fill off with an old sieve and drying it in a nylon stocking, then pouring the water through the sieve to recover the pellets - so avoiding breathing lead particulates.

Good idea, but I hate those polystyrene bean bag balls they stick everywhere with static! 😆

A very good afternoon to you, mate. Just going to grab a coffee and settle in to watch this before I go into the garden for a little tinkering and then plinkering 😋 Just adding a new bipod and red dot to a budget xs38 for messing around with.... Before the usual know it all suspects chime in regarding springers and... well, pretty much anything.... I'll make sure to check with you before I consider anything else that you don't understand and that has nothing to do with you in the future, happy now? Retention relaxed and unclenched?
