@@RailCowGirl In my younger days I worked on the UK deep sea fishing boats as radio officer, often venturing around the North Cape of Norway and deep into the Barents Sea. In the summer the sun never set, simply going around all day in a circle. At midnight it would shine from due north way over the other side of the North Pole. The winter months - now that was something else, never seeing the sun at all from the time we got north of the polar circle until such time as we were heading home again, often a period of 6 weeks or so.

I have a question, what is the safest thing for a train driver in Norway to do in the event they think they are going to strike a Moose? Is it safer to hit the Moose at speed? Do you slow down? Do you have to report hitting the Moose? I'm very curious.
@RailCowGirl
4 жыл бұрын
We do not slow down. Hitting the moose at speed is the better way, less chance of having a severely injured moose running around. We report a hit and the Traffic controller contacts one of the hunters/trackers in the area they have a deal with.

YES! Perfect video for me! I love night driving a lot! I used to do lots of night driving until client contract got changed and now I haven't done night driving shift since 2018! 😭 Ål to Bergen is my favourite route to watch especially ascend to Finse and descend as well! Any chance for night version of this? :D I have a question for you, I know after arriving at Ål, you carried on to Voss as resting crew but if you drive from Bergen to Ål at night, do you stay at Ål for an hour or two break and drive back to Voss/Bergen? What about Ål to Oslo, also? Also, I noticed even with line speed at 120 kph but you appears to be driving much slower, below 100 kph, I think, is this because of passenger comfort while they are sleeping? Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions! Nordic midnight sun is beautiful and I hope to get a chance to go up to Tromsø, which is much further north in Norway to experience midnight Sun up there soon in future!

Wouldn't it be great if the engine lights actually moved to shine on the tracks in a curve? I've seen some car and truck designs that had maneuvering lights that followed the curve of the road. Must be difficult moving at night when your lights are illuminating the trees.
@RailCowGirl
4 жыл бұрын
You're referring to adaptive headlights :) it does not really follow the road, it follows the movement of the steering wheel combined with the speed of the car to get the right angle on the lights. Such lighting would have been brilliant to have on a locomotive, but it means more electronics and fine adjusted moving parts... The more electronics and moving parts you have the more likely there is having a system to fail... Such system also have a very high cost, and to keep rolling stock easy to maintain and easy to repair ... having a exotic system like that is just luxury, especially when you know that having adaptive headlights are to be able to see where you're turning, whilst a train follows the track no matter what :) No steering wheel needed.
