Fisterra or Finisterre is the place where the Roman Civilization believed that the world ended.
The rocky extension of granite that extends for 3 kilometers into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean caused this area to be baptized as "Finis Terrae", in Latin: (Finis) = End, (terre) = Land.
The Romans thought that the world ended here and based on that for centuries it was considered the westernmost point on Earth.
Beyond these lands of rugged landscape there was nothing else, only the "Mare externum" that every sunset engulfs the king star under its waters.
In the mountains of the area the Romans found an altar to the Sun or "Ara Solis" built by the Celtic peoples who inhabited this place.
We are therefore in a magical area of legends and mysteries.
According to the Finisterre tradition it is the end of the Camino de Santiago.
The cape is considered Km 0.00 of the Camino, and from it you can contemplate the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.
At this point the pilgrims, who had arrived here guided by the lights of the Milky Way, burned (until very recently) their pilgrimage clothes as a sign of purification and spiritual rebirth with the teachings that the pilgrimage has brought them before return home.
The pilgrim's bronze boot symbolizes the ancient tradition of the burning of clothes, the purification of the body and the soul.
Through this rite the pilgrim got rid of all the material that has accompanied him during the pilgrimage and thus begins a new life.
We also see the statue to the pilgrim, a pilgrim who fights against the winds of the area, in a last final effort in his ascent to the top of the cape.
There are those who do the Camino de Santiago for spiritual reasons, others do it for sport, also to feel direct contact with nature and disconnect from technology, to learn to live with the basics that you carry in your backpack, to meet people or simply to connect with oneself on a journey of meditation and self-knowledge.
What is clear is that once you start doing the Camino, your life changes and your journey never ends.
