Something I only realised in my adult life at 3:07 When he turns and looks at the hole in his portrait, his dead brother was the missing piece, this was the hole in his life. He then feels this area of the portrait, caressing it. He then looks back at his brother who just walked out, has a massive emotional meltdown, and you can see it in his face. Powerful directing, powerful choreography and powerful acting. What a superb film.

For everyone who ever grew up in a disfunctional family, this scene hit you hard. Siblings growing up in the jungle trying to figure the way out all by themselves with no guidance, and amidst of all the chaos surrounding us, we end up fighting eachother. And afterthat, we hated ourselves the fact that we did. Ever ending cycles in an toxic environment that we unfortunately landed. Some make it out, most don't. When Cruz cut the portrait out and taunted Paco to fight, his pain shows; tired of fighting, tired of life's constant battle. I know it's a movie but it's a darn good scene. What makes a good movie is that you can really relate to it. Watched this when I was a teenager I like it then, re-watch again now that I'm in my 40s and loved it even more.

He knew about everything. He knew about Miklo’s shitty circumstances after he left prison, he knew why Miklo went to prison in the first place. That’s why he shook his head at Paco here. Not only was it because of what Paco had done, but because of his lack of understanding and empathy as to why Miklo went the way he did even though he played no small part in it. Also the self righteous and hypocritical attitude of Paco who refused to do anything to Cruz even though it’s also his job.
@HaidurShah21

2:57 Great Acting right there! Paco's face says it all. If only things could have turned out differently, both his karnals are partially disbaled (Miklo with his amputated leg and Cruzito with his inability to walk properly). In this scene you can sense his extreme anger but at the same time you can see the pain in his face because he was the leader of Vatos Locos, an example whose actions were ultimately the reason why things became the way they were. At least he tried to make amends by joining the army and then the police force. We all can learn a thing or two from this movie. 💪VIVA LA RASA!

But growing up I can relate to it much more, I’m an ex drug addict going a year and month strong, but seeing this made me feel Cruz’s pain, the way him and his own brother argued and almost fought. Watching this part in the movie would make my eyes watery, opioid addiction ain’t no joke. Plus I actually did fight my brother at one point, and I felt so guilty and hurt after it happened. I’m so glad I’m good with my brother now and staying sober. This scene just hits, even being Latino, the way they communicate and shit, the acting is sooo good.
