Update Friday: In the search for the victims of the canoe accident on Veluwemeer Lake, the fourth victim was found on Friday morning, the child, a five-year-old girl was found to be deceased. A woman (32 years old) died on Thursday afternoon and a child (seven years old) is in hospital. Police found the third victim (man 42 years old) around 10pm on Thursday evening. He too had died. The victims are from a family from the Nordrhein Westfalen (Germany) region.
On Thursday afternoon around 3pm, emergency services rushed en masse with helicopters and boats for a search for a German family on the Veluwemeer lake. The control room the report that a child was in the water. The report concerned a child who was taken to hospital by an ambulance. However, it soon became clear that more people would be in the water. Around 3.40pm, the body of a woman was found. An attempt was still made to resuscitate her but unfortunately it was to no avail.While canoeing, the German family ended up in the Veluwemeer. During the search, a girl of the family was found on a buoy and the mother was pulled out of the water south of the Ral island in critical condition. The father and the other child of the family are still missing. Later, the canoe was found near Snip Island. The search operation was stopped after more than 3 hours. The area was searched by several units from air and water.
The alerted medical helicopter was the first of the helicopters to arrive at the scene they searched above the water for a long time, later the police helicopter, coast guard sar helicopter and a second trauma helicopter arrived at the scene. Several fire units from the region were called out with their lifeboats, as well as the KNRM of Elburg, a sonar boat and Rijkswaterstaat. Bystanders with boats rushed to shore to pick up police officers and bring them to the Veluwemeer.
