Walk The Trails #MountMagazine #Arkansas #Ozark #Camping #Hiking
Arkansas has some of the best hiking and backpacking trails in the US. Two main regions include Ouachita National Forest and Ozark National Forest. Highland trails in the Ozark is one of the top 10 backpacking trails in the US. On the southern end of Ouachita lies the Eagle Rock Loop Trail (check it out: • Backpacking Eagle Rock... ).
In between the Ozark and Ouachita lies the Mount Magazine State Park. The Cove lake trail in the park is good for backpacking. But this video is about hiking around the numerous trails around the park which totals to about 20 miles.
There are RV camps as well as tent camps. Tent campsites are limited to 8 sites which are first come first serve ($15/day). If you don't get one here, you'll have to drive down to the Cove lake area, or blue mountain.
Here are the list of trails we hiked:
1. Dripping spring trail
2. Signal Hill trail
3. Cameron Bluff Overlook (you can also drive around in this area)
4. Mossback Ridge trail
5. Bear Hollow Trail
6. Will Apple's Road trail (easiest of all)
7. North Rim Trail
They sell firewood at the visiting center, but you can also collect from the back forest.
It was very windy in the first night with light rain. Next night was just fine. Lots of crickets chirping. There is a toilet next to the campground, but no running water. You can get water by the visiting center or by the RV campground.
They do have a lodge that looked really nice.
