This is absolutely 100% what comes to mind every time I think about my personal concept of "homesick for a place you've never been." This peaceful atmosphere is genuinely cathartic and the closeness of everything gives me a diorama-like sense of coziness.

That’s what I love the most about Japan. I loved walking in the rain on a warm summer night. Those cluttered streets full of sounds and smells. And then finding a cozy tiny restaurant and enjoying the food and the company of my partner while the rain is coming down. That’s just pure happiness for me.

I lived in Akabane-nishi for 10 months in 1979-80 and went to that station every day, and went to that shopping street at least once a week. It's hard to believe how much it's changed. I think there were only two train lines at the time, the Akabane line that ran back and forth to Ikebukuro, and (I think) the Keihin-Tohoku line. What a difference!

I absolutely love the narrow city backstreets, intricately littered with intimate shops, restaurants, and bars. It creates such a wonderful atmosphere. ... and then there's the neat, closely knit suburban housing, which has a peaceful atmosphere all of its own. ... and it's all so CLEAN... No litter or graffiti anywhere! You are very lucky to have such lovely cities in Japan, full of character. I hope to visit one day.

i think one quality everybody notuices but no one really brings up about Japanese city streets is how cluttered they are. I mean they're impeccably clean don't get me wrong, it's just that they're full of signage, bikes, vending machines, outdoor seating areas and so on and so forth. Clutter makes a place feel lived in and therefore more welcoming.

Something about the serene walking experience, the way living can occur without even getting in a car. Being able to find yourself in a bustling plaza with food and lights, and being a short walk from an empty serene park and shrine. I would love to visit one day, and just find myself walking around enjoying the sounds and scents, enjoying some good food as well with no real goal. That is peace.

In general, with its presence and reputation, rain can be connected to one’s memory, mood, and behavior. It is something that affects your world ultimately when it’s happening, and when emotions of the human mind are subjected to it nothing can be predicted.
