As a side note, the Sonnax tester has to be calibrated a 5" and 25" per the instructions. As well as the first time you use it each day. You have EXCELLENT videos, as a builder, I'm glad i found your channel !!!!!

Thank you for the kind words, BEANS-O-MATICtransimssions! Glad to have you on board...Feel free to share any tips, pointers or best practices. Good call out on the calibration process...I believe I cover it in all my other vacuum test videos but must have omitted it during this one.

Great video, Nick. I need to invest in one of those vacuum testers.

Thanks, Kevin. Those testers are well worth the investment, especially if you work on later model units. For example, the 6L80/90s and newer often have issues with valves in the vb and pump to the extent it’s pretty much mandatory to test as some of the valves that wear and “leak” don’t have any aftermarket replacements so you need to know if you have to replace the valve body or pump cover and the tester is the only way to find out.

@@nickstransmissions got mine yesterday. So far I've built my little business on 4L60E/700R4's. Besides the TCC and AFL valves, what bores do you commonly see wear in?

nice, Kevin! Once in a blue moon, the tester will see wear in the pressure regulator valve in the pump for the 4L60E but that's about it in my experience. Sonnax has a full guide that shows you all the possible test locations on the VB and pump for the 4L60E: www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/441-gm-4l60-e-vacuum-test-guide They also have similar guides for other transmissions like the 4L80E, 6L80E, Ford and Dodge transmissions (and some foreign stuff). The 700R4 is tricker to test given the size of the little test block provided w/the kit vs the size of the circuit worm tracks in the valve body but you can make additional test plates using plexiglass and a drill/.125" bit to cover all the clutch circuits...The 700R4's TV valve and 3-4 shift valve wear, especially in the 82-E87 valve bodies. Pumps are usually ok but I still test them.

@@nickstransmissions thanks partner. I've got the Sonnax guide printed, laminated, and stuck right next to the vacuum tester. Lol. Have you tried the oversized AFL valves that don't require reaming? Are they worth messing with?

Can the converter O-ring can it make fourth gear drop out

Hi Richard, that o-ring seals off the torque converter clutch apply circuit so no (but it will prevent TCC lock up if bad) but if your OD clutches are burnt you will fall out of fourth gear and lock up.
