These videos were the first that really helped me get started with 4nec2. Thank you so much for your contributions! I would love to see more tutorials - maybe more complex antennas, or showing some of the other functions of the program.

Good morning! I am so glad the videos helped. I was thinking about creating a stand alone video on antenna traps with a followup video in 4NEC2 on a trapped antenna. I *love* doing antenna experiments in 4NEC2 ... the old "what if I?" questions can be answered there even while snow is falling and it is 10 deg F outside!

This video has been extremely helpful for me in getting started with NEC modeling. You have done a lot of homework in prep for this. You have an error at 29 minutes and 2 seconds which happened as a result of reading your notes at a distance. You wrote down a number missing one digit. I don't know yet if this affect the outcome or if you discovered it yourself later in the video. We shall see. But meanwhile, this material is absolutely excellent. You know your stuff. UPDATE: The error did NOT make it into the model. Hurray!

I am so glad that the video helped! Yeah, there are ooopsies that somehow sneak into things. I go over things *several* times to try to extinguish them all, but ... you know how it is! 🙂 I'll have to see what that error is and put a note in the description about it. Unfortunately, YT doesn't allow creators to replace and existing video with an updated version. I can upload a totally new version and delete the old version, but then I loose all of the metrics associated with the deleted version.😕 I'm glad that this oopsie didn't make it into the model. It simply HAS to be right! Like everything else, checked and rechecked and re-rechecked! 🙂

Great job not only in demonstrating 4NEC2 but in showing how to plan a project (retired engineer here)! In comparing your j-pole model with a vertical dipole with the tops of both models at the same height (so that the centers of radiation are the same height), there is a significant difference in gain (the dipole is 2.6dB higher). I can't explain this. The gains should be virtually the same because they are both half-wave antennas at the same height. Both models use the same diameter pipe, the same number of segments, and the same ground. Any thoughts?

Thanks from a fellow retired engineer! 🙂 I will say that, yes, they are both vertical and, yes, they are both half-wave antennas, but they are very different animals at the same time. The fact that there is a difference doesn't surprise me a whole lot. I cannot explain the why behind the difference. I just drop back to my old adage, "There is a lot of magic with R.F.!" 😕
