We've Missed a Crucial Detail About This Truck, and We Apologize! The Feiyue has a BRUSHLESS Motor set up with FULL METAL DIFFERENTIALS making this more of a contender than we made it out to be. The price is much more fair as well, which we will address in a future video. We thank our subscribers for helping us catch this mistake in a very positive, educational way :) We couldn't do this without you guys!

The Feiyue FY-03 is the same as the Virhuck V-01 (apart from body panels/colour) Both have the metal diff gears,slipper clutch etc so should be longer lasting than the WLToys 12428. They do have smaller brushed motors than the 12428 and their uncooled esc/rx units are prone to burning out. It looks like Feiyue decided to go brushless with the FY-07 rather than fit a 540 motor and fix the brushed esc/rx issue

heady2008 Excellent info; I’m glad you posted it, so I didn’t have to! 😉 Do you own any of the other buggies? I’m curious about your evaluation/comparisons. My only complaints with my 12428s has been the nylon diff gears (both of my ‘428s have stripped gears twice, so I’ve ordered metal replacements), and the occasional ESC overheating issues. Also, I don’t care for the solid dogbones, but that’s such a minor gripe. 😏 My V01s have been awesome so far, with my only gripes being the lack of LEDs (added my own), and the sloppy front spindles/carriers (which I’ll be upgrading to aluminum).

I’ve had this for 1 year now and I am happy with it. I Payed about $90 at the time, it comes with a brushless motor and I added 4 White LED lights on top. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it rolls easily as you guys experienced. You just have to release the throttle when turning and then you can gun it once it’s straight. One of my friends uses left hand to steer, so the wheel on the remote being able to pop over to the other side comes in handy for them.

Yeah we totally missed the fact that this has a brushless motor, which is 100% our fault. Sadly, it doesn't really seem to perform much better (that we could tell) than our others mentioned in this video (the Virhuk and 12428 and JJRC). Don't get us wrong, we like this, and plan on keeping it, but if a person had to chose between the 4 we've featured, the $60 Virhuk is the winner in our opinions.

Good evening, Saylors! Well, I have to say, when I saw our little, pregnant Abbey, running down the street to save the truck from drowning, my heart skipped a beat! Whew! You didn't fall, so no prob, but this old man got a few more grey hairs, I think! Lol Anyway, yeah, like you guys, I wasn't really that impressed with the hill climbing ability of this one. It looks really cool & I like the slightly higher stance, too. But when Abby, the Queen of the hill-climb, had to struggle with it, like that, it's a pass for me. Take great care! JP

The Virhuck V01 you linked to is $129.99. Just search Walmart website for "Virhuck V01" and there are two listings right now for $59.99. I picked one up when they were still $40-some bucks, but haven't unboxed it yet. The reason this Feiyue is flipping so easily is the taller tires raises the center of gravity. Though that does raise it a little for better ground clearance if you plan to rock crawl it rather than bash it. I'm pretty sure the JJRC, WLToys, Virhuck, Feiyue, and Vaterra Twin Hammer's are all the same exact chassis and running gear. The differences are bodies, electronics, tires / wheels, and some may have aluminum parts rather than plastic. But replacement and hop-up parts for one will fit all the others. They are all light in the front end. I bought a bunch of auto tire balancing weights (lead & zinc) with peal-off sticky on them that I use for R/C weights. Just don't put on "too much" weight or you will start wearing out gears and bearings, and breaking suspension parts if you're into "jumping" your cars. Adding front weight will also help with the torque twist this chassis design has that lifts one front tire off the ground in turns. They all, as all Chinese R/C trucks seem to, come with little to no oil in the shocks or grease in the axles and bearings. That's the first thing I do before ever taking them out for a run is disassemble and grease things. It will run quieter and last longer if you do that. And they all have the same Limited Slip front differentials which effectively makes it a 3-wheel drive. If you "pack" the front differential with heavy grease, then both front wheels will be powered but will still have enough slip that you won't break axles (like you will do if you buy one of the metal lockers they make for them.)

Sorry Duck!! We had the correct link, but Walmart actually redirected our link some how to that 6 wheel drive one. They even did that on our Virhuk video, so we had to go update all of those links. Thanks for the heads up though. That's a great tip about swapping the parts out, too! I definitely want to get some of those weights. I thought about using fishing weights, as I have a lot of them. The tire weights are a great alternative.
@DFDuck55
6 жыл бұрын
I have used fishing weights, because it was the only thing I had at the time. They can be difficult to attach and secure to the vehicle. The auto wheel weights are much easier to use. You can find them at a lot of the little gas station stores. You can find them easy enough with a google search for "wheel weights". I don't remember where I got mine, but here's a link to some, 48 stick-on 1/4 oz weights for $9.95 with free shipping; setgroupusa.com/products/black-wheel-weights-stick-on-adhesive-tape-weight-1-4-oz-0-25-48-pieces

I got all my virhuck for $40 ( 3-ea) I got the original fy03 for $58.... Being only $40...and having metal gears in the diff...i can convert it to BRUSHLESS. 2845 3000kv or 3100KV ( $12) 60A ocday esc $14..MG servo $7..Rx $7... ( I only have a GoolRc TX $25)....but converting the truck to brushless is only $85 total for everything....i have 3s 40C 1500 mah from other projects. You can get rear aluminum oil fill shock for $5. I mounted the kt-12 wheels and tires. To give the truck a wider stand. lower the rear shocks. I just ream/bore the extra pinons to fit the brushless motor's shaft. The truck has perfect power on 2s...around 30 mph. It'll pop wheelies on grass.. It'll do back flips on pavement...on 3s. lmao..probably over 40 mph. It's not really fun to drive it like that...I can still gear it down with the extra 22 T pinon. I havnt strip any parts or gears * the virhuck has a SLIPPER CLUTCH... This help minimize spur gears striping from BREAKING or Poping wheelies. Im still running plastic gears in the transfer case,,,they're fine ( there's metal upgrade if you want) ....the only broken part was one CVD...(driver's error) I hit the curb on 3s....didnt break in time....I simply replaces it with plastic ones...becuase they actuate in and out....The trucks I converted to brushless are still doing fine. I still have one stock...just becuase. it's sort of a collection. The virhuck is still the best deal and quality for around $40-$50. I ran one of my virhuck 50 times before i made the brushless conversion. That's a lot of playtime and durablity for only $40. It still plenty fun to drive stock... I have other 1/12 of different brands. Those other trucks have issues of some sort All of my Virhuck works fine from day one..even after my tinkering...they still work. All I can say is...my $85 virhuck will out run a slaash.....all day long.lmao The fy07..having heavier and taller wheels and tires...isnt going have as much gusto on a stock 390 brushed motor. it is what it is... Id gear it down..if it came with extra pinons.

I am torn between the wltoys 12428 and the jjrc. They are close to the same price. What would you guys pick? I am in Canada so I could not find the other one that sold at Wal-Mart and Amazon. They do not carry them on the Canadian sites and if I order from the US it is not worth it with exchange and duty. I can get the wltoys or jjrc for about 90$ CDN. On my next pay I plan to order one. I think Nate said the 12428 was a little better but I could be mistaken

Don’t know whether it makes any difference to you, but If it’s down to a coin toss between them... The 12428 comes with LED lights pre-installed and a 540 motor. I believe the JJR/C unit has empty light buckets and a 390 motor. Enjoy whichever one you choose!

I think the problem is that it has too much power. It's a brushless motor in it, so it should be much more powerful. I have the Virhuck 02 which also has the same brushless setup but in a 6 wheel drive version...and if I put it into the highest rate, it goes so fast I have a hard time controlling it. The true equivalent of the WLtoys/JJRC/Virhuck is the Feiyue FY03...which is much cheaper as it doesn't have a brushless motor.
@TheRcSaylors

We missed the fact that this has a brushless motor, which is 100% our fault. It didn't really seem much faster though, in our opinions than the others we've driven. Granted, the brushless motor does give this one a little more edge than we first shared.

Currently showing $129 at the link. At that price, one would expect it to match up against the 1:10 scale, 2-speed (real transmission, not throttle position) WLToys 10428. That it is a subpar rival of the 1:12 scale 12428 and company is ... embarrassing. Not even a U.S. inventory/Amazon listing, which so often is the basis/excuse for markups. No Popeye. R/C ground vehicle is a total pass. He must’ve known. How. Does. He. Do. That? 🤔 Nice review, as always! Two thumbs up for you! 👍👍
@chadpollman7970
6 жыл бұрын
I missed that it has a brushless motor. So that explains a chunk of the markup. Sorry, it’s clear the motor is not properly matched to the rest of the drivetrain, battery, and suspension (or the other way around, if you prefer), and as a result performance suffers. I guess the die-hard brushless snobs and upgraders might go for it, though. With enough tweaks, it probably could be a nice buggy.

No worries! I hadn’t even considered the possibility until I saw other comments mentioning the brushless setup (great catch on their part!). I was thinking/expecting just a run-of-the-mill 370 or 390 can, and that the torque roll tendency was due to something binding. Surprise!

That is Feywei’s upgrade to the other 3. From looking around the FY-03 is the original in the body style of the 12428 and others like it. I have the FY-03 and it does very well if not a touch better than the metal truck which I got on y’all’s recommendation. I could be wrong in this but this is what I have read. You guys should grab the FY-03 and run it with the other 3. It would be like running quadruplets together.

You both mention that it is basically the same as the other trucks that are like the 12428, but that is quite wrong. Yes, it is a similar design, but there are some important and major differences. I have owned both the WLToys 12428 and the 6 wheel drive version of of the FY07 (the Feiyue FY06) for almost a year and the FY06 is the best cheap rc car I have been around. The price difference is in the not immediately obvious things like the brushless motor (a huge upgrade) and higher grade electronics. The Feiyue looks somewhat similar to the 12428, but it is a total redesign and improvement. As another commenter said, the older Feiyue FY03 is the copy of the 12428 (or maybe the 12428 is a copy of the FY03, or actually both are copies of something else), but the FY06/07 is a total redesign including much improved electronics and full metal differentials and other metal parts in the drivetrain that are only plastic on the 12428. It's like saying a Kia and a Mercedes are very similar and should cost the same because they are both red and roughly look about the same. It costs more and is a lot better. Also, compare its price to a brushless Traxxas or HPI. Those are 3X or 4X as expensive, but you get higher quality stuff and better customer service. It just depends on what is most valuable to the particular customer.

Having a 12428 I decided the Feiyue 07 would be an upgrade, due to the metal diff and slipper clutch, also amusing it would have better electronics to go with the brush-less motor. It is heavier and feels a lot better built than the 12428, it really needs proper oil shocks due to its weight. I added LEDs to it, but should have upgraded the shocks first. Weak point is the drive shafts. It doesnt compeat to speed and power with the 12428 out of the box, but I think it can handdle 3s. With 3s and proper shocks this would come alive. Then again I got this when the 12428 where just £20 different in price (£77 for the fy07 only $57 for the wltoys !!!!!!).

This is a solid PASS, sadly. Owning both the 12428 (two of them), AND the V01 (x2), I’ll say they perform far too well at half the cost, to accept the poor Performance-to-Cost ratio of this buggy. An interesting side-note: as an experiment, I modified one of my 12428s so that it now carries TWO spare tires - one in the normal position, the other just-behind the roof/over the battery tray - and for some inconceivable reason, it actually rolls LESS with the added weight up there. I know, “makes no sense”, right? #justsayin And one *teensy* correction, Nathan: the term “wheelbase” refers to the distance (length) between the centerpoints of the front and rear axles, not the size of the wheels. 😜

I really enjoy watching all of your videos and while I have been out of the RC scene for a few years now, my return is inevitable and guarantee my purchase(s) will be based on your video reviews & suggestions. I hope the two of you find ways to continue working together making these fun videos for many years to come and maybe my two cent suggestion will help you out in the future. I think it's time for you both to consider suffering through suspension tuning 101 LOL, and maybe take that knowledge to touch on the factory suspension for each land vehicle you review. You don't need to take a college course or get too in depth in your video because it's really boring insignificant stuff if you're not into it. You really wouldn't have to say a word because a simple 3-second close up of the front and rear shocks would answer the majority of my questions instead of checking the manufacturer site to find out if the stock suspension has any tuning ability or will I be digging in my spare parts to try and match some compatible oil-filled shocks from something I upgraded in the past. Like I said before, I enjoy watching all of your videos and this truck today is very unlikely to make it into my collection because it's just not my style, but if I somehow ended up with one for free I would already know by watching your video that it has entirely too much front spring pre-load and too much spring rebound front and rear. It was not until I saw a close up picture of the shocks online that I discovered it has spring pre-load adjusters only. Depending on how yours were set it could have made for a few less tumbles down the hill... I spent a lot of years racing motorcycles and have a pretty straightforward way of explaining this stuff if you ever need some help. Remember this is just one guy's two cents. Keep doing what you do, and have fun while you're doing it!!

I’m glad you guys had a good experience with this vehicle because I ordered 2 of them, one caught on fire and the other just stopped working in less then a minute. Very bad experience with this particular vehicle along with it’s 6x6 brother! Strongly advise not to buy this RC sadly.

So, take the wheels and tires off of this truck and put them on the Virhuck. Because I found the Virhuck tires too soft. Also, remove the spare tire and that will help balance it. Still a nice truck.

It seems to be to be too lite in the front end. That's a easy fix to correct.

That buggy is not good at all, just like you said way to light. I almost pulled the trigger on it, but thank god I watched the whole video. Great job of showing and saying the truth, keep up the great work. You two are very special, tell Abby to quit messing we the dual rates. To funny.

That is a great tip Ford. The truck came like this, with the wires ran on the outside, but that's definitely something we'll do in all future runs and a good tip for anyone reading!
