Having moved house recently I've not had much time for RC, though I've managed to sneak in a few little jobs - mostly on this CC-01. I put the spring preload collars back on to raise the ride height (it's just a tad too stiff now), filed the c-hubs for a smidge more steering angle, removed the front part of the skidplate because it made the bolts protrude, cut and bent the front edge of the remaining plate so it's a smooth transition (I trimmed the plastic webbing beneath it to allow that) and moved the steering pushrods to the correct side of the c-hub mount (d'oh) so there's no binding through the travel.
Oh, I also took out the Tamiya light controller along with 956 miles of badly soldered cables and wired the LEDs in directly, though I guess the spotlight ones can't handle the voltage as first one and then the other failed. I quite like the single-bulb/different colour temperature look though, as it suits this mess of a car well, so I'll put another cool white bulb in a single spotlamp again - one that can take 6V.
It still needs a stronger servo and those sidesteps are coming off too, as they act more like grippers than sliders. I'll replace them with something though - don't want this sliding along rocks on the body.
With its grippy tyres, lowered gearing and vastly improved steering mechanism, this Pajero is now awesomely fair to middling. I think I'm really starting to access its true potential... (helps truck kindly over small pebble).
Having done all this work (so far) on this really very stupid chassis, I feel quite strongly about buying any more Tamiyas... which is to say I really need to and can't stop looking at them online. 😄🤪🥸
