Boy, I needed to see this video when I was put on Retinol! I was working as a receptionist, so I greeted everyone who came in to GE medical equipment. My face was red, tight, I had no idea what to use on it, I had to stop wearing my make-up and I was super uncomfortable. The derm at the time told me it will get worse before it gets better. I cried a lot, refused to go anywhere and ultimately stopped using it. Sadly, the derm I was seeing didn't give me any suggestions to use on it or any help for that matter! I obviously quit seeing him. He needs to take several classes from you! I don't know what was available back in the 1980's... other than Accutane. In order for me to go on that drug, he wanted me to go on Birth Control Pill. My hormones were already a mess and my periods were never every 28 days. You probably weren't even born yet and I needed YOU back then! lol I am so appreciative and admire your desire to educate people on their skin and all the products, how to use them and what not to use. Thank you kindly. You are much appreciated!

I never thought I could use a retinol nightly but I can now! I started with adapolene once a week but a very small pea sized amount and over moisturizer. Through the months I would slowly up the frequency and amount. It was a very very slow process. I’d inspect my skin every night. If II had zero irritation I’d use it. If not, I’d wait until it was fine again. It took over a year but now I can use it without any issues. And it was absolutely worth this slow process, assuming there are no allergies to it. At 45 my skin looks better now than it did in my 20s.

Hey DR Dray! Why do some esthetician’s speak horribly of drugstore skincare while dermatologist praise it ?

Because most esty's are trying to sell you expensive spa products (some derms are as well). Though some of them do truly believe that expensive spa is better than drugstore. @@Viennafly1 I think one of the things that came up re: this subject was that luxury products contain liposomes. Okay, but lecithin which falls under that category is found in some less expensive products same with phospholipids. There's stuff at all price points to please everyone. Oh my gosh my skin took a nose dive when I went post menopausal. It’s like collagen, what collagen? Still soft but so saggy even being a sunscreen wearer in some capacity all my life and on my face consistently since early 20’s. I was doing well with 20% timeless vitamin C in AM and Differin in PM until we got some cooler, less humid weather in North FL and now I just want to soak my face in moisturizer. Have you tried CeraVe moisturizing cream? It allows me to keep using differin with the dry winter air. If you have a Sam's Club membership, it's super cheap there and comes with a pump lid which I like. When I first got it I only used it on one half of my face for 2 weeks (to make sure it didn't cause breakouts) and within 20 minutes that half of my face felt much less irritated. And then I don't know which of these products are responsible but I use CeraVe moisturizing cream + 3 drops of a 10% niacinamide serum mixed in, and sometimes The Ordinary natural moisturizing factors instead of the CeraVe and my moisture barrier is much improved despite using glycolic acid and Differin because I can now forget to moisturize after showering and my skin doesn't feel dry whereas before it would feel so dry within like 15 minutes.

I'm way past menopause so I went in 6 months ago with low expectations since it would take longer to be effective. Nice formula, but can't use much else in the morning except Timeless Vit C because it can make my mineral sunscreen pill. My commitment to the product is 2 years, will only purchase the daily serum in future since I already use tretinoin at night. I can then use it around the eyes. Your videos and advice is always informative and reconfirming. I have always had oily, acne prone skin, and as I have aged, rosacea, has become an added problem. I’ve been to many dermatologists over the years with minimal, mostly temporary, improvements. The best results were using certain low-dose antibiotics, which they assured me I could continue taking long term with no problems - WRONG. Long story shorter, with the advice of a very sharp dermatologist PA, which, I only saw a few times, and some intensive self- study, for the last three years or so I have daily used a regimen of a probiotic, niacinamide (10%), azelaic acid (15%), and as Dr. Dray continually tells us, daily sunscreen - something I rarely used during most of my life. The results have been almost life changing. I have not had a “break-out” in about two years. And, when I do occasional have a pimple start to form, it is normally stunted and gone in a few days.

@@universe25.x I buy from my local pharmacy in Europe. It's non branded but it's 20% azelaic acid. No prescription needed. And it was cheap. Much more effective than all those high end fragranced branded stuff. I bet you can find one where you are located. :) Totally recommend. I use it as the doc says in her video. It helped me a lot.

@@universe25.x I think it is a very good start and not useless at all. It took me a long time to get used to 20%. Those branded ones you can buy from drugstore are sometimes just 5% max. So you got a good deal there.

Finally, bingo, yes HRT is the key when you’re 50+. I keep saying in comments everywhere but nobody gets my point. God bless you, I was thinking maybe I should put some of my estro cream on my face . 🤔. I started HRT 3 months ago and among all other benefits my face started glowing 😮.

Hey, I’ve been wanting to start an antiperspirant treatment (with aluminium) at night, but I’m not sure where to put it on my night routine, and also if I can use it with retinoid (tretinoin). My night routine is: hyaluronic acid serum -> tretinoin -> moisturizer Thank you very much, I love your videos and have learned so much from it! Cheers from Brazil!!

I just finished a vial, (with stopper), of Vichy Vitamin C. The Liftactiv. I saw enough improvement around my eye, (just below the bone), to order another. I am excited to see how everything looks after 90 days. I was surprised because my expectations were low. It is very reasonable at $28.50. But if you sign up for emails you can get a percentage off your first one, they also have auto subscribe.

Dr Dray, could you please make a video for those of us with mature skin (post menopausal) with rosacea type 2. I have a lot of sun damage (lived closed to the equator and beaches most of my life). I find that my skin prefers gel type moisturizers, so I don’t know what to use during winter. When using cerave lotion, I break out. Cerave pm dries my skin out a lot, I get full of fine wrinkles. I have prescription azelaic acid that also dries out my skin so I only uses on affected areas. I use Aveeno calm and restore serum and sometimes the matching gel moisturizer. The moisturizer I use most is the Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream (fragrance free). I find that getting into winter I need to layer it on thick. I think I need something thicker during cold windy weather. I do use an estrogen vaginal ring, but I don’t think it helps my face. Unfortunately I don’t tolerate any other estrogen. I only tolerate mineral sunscreens which dry my skin further. My skin used to be oily in the t zone. I just want a simple routine to get my face hydrated, reduce the visible sunspots, if posible get some collagen replenished. I’m vegan. I can’t afford fancy laser treatments. I have been following for over a year and I have learned more from you than my dermatologist. Thank you.

I just found a low-priced product which contains retinal (retinaldehyde). Read the ingredients and make sure that contains retinal, not retinol. This is good because I can use it around my eyes. I also found a peptide called Snap-8 (acetyl octapeptide-3). According to studies, Snap-8 is more effective and has better penetration than argireline. I shouldn't be telling you all this because if all of you buy this and it becomes a fad, you will drive up the price. I don't like vitamin c because it oxidizes and cause hyperpigmentation. I used it around eyes for two weeks and my skin is darkened. I used it with sunscreen but it didn't help.

Penny from PennSmithSkinCare (master esthetician) here on KZitem talks about Emepelle quite a bit. Yes, it for sure isn’t talked about enough. Fortunately, I can use tretinoin. I use it mostly for acne, but it is always great to have anti-aging options. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on Emepelle, but it’s been on my radar for awhile. I currently use everything else, though. (Edited to add): I thought red LED could also build collagen? Thanks for all you do❤️
