Instead of air brush paint (acrylic ink) for underpainting or increasing chroma, I like to use permanent (alcohol based) markers like Sharpie or Copic. Because they aren't acrylic, it's much easier to layer over them. Your art is beautiful, by the way. Thank you for the video.
@SunnyCDolls

Copics are not lightfast and will fade over time on original paintings. They are great if you are going to do prints.
@red0421

I use Promarkers, they're alcohol based markers that with a bit of practice can be blended quite nicely. Each marker can cost roughly £2 individually, but given the amount of ink in each pen I'd say it's worth it. You can get sets with about 20 pens or so for £25 online, but my memory could be faulty. You can buy them on Amazon. If you're looking for fair priced, good quality markers for artwork, these would be my recommendation, I've tried a few different markers over the years but my promarkers remain my favourite!

@Song Mei I wonder if you've considered Nature in Reality. It aims for Wholeness, and Proportion, and Symmetry but symmetry is not Reflection/Mirror Image. Perfect Symmetry is man-made aesthetic but exists in Mathematics too. Asymmetry is Always present in everything, your powers of Artistic Observation would've revealed that to you. ( Or they will, once acute. ) As far as nature is concerned, Symmetry has parameters that it can function within: Everything is Asymmetrical but not noticeably so; usually it means something has gone wrong if the asymmetry and proportion is immediately noticeable, yet, sometimes, it's purposefully so, but not in Humankind. Watch this as a fun demo of this fact ! kzitem.info/news/bejne/p31pv4Zpf4SeZ6w

@Song Mei Hi ! You're Welcome! Yes nature is always 'imperfect', in that there isn't ever mirror image symmetry, contrary to the Artist's guiding in this video, as the commenter gently pointed out. I had the impression that you posited Perfect Symmetry as the rule of nature, when you said "If, indeed, there is some slight asymmetry then of course it must be honoured. I respect your view that asymmetry can be introduced deliberately for artistic reasons though." Asymmetry is 99.9% the rule of nature, especially regarding faces, thus i think it should be a foundational principal in rendering them. I realise that drawing mirror image symmetry allows viewers of art to concentrate on the image as a whole. Still: If there is slight asymmetry, the Brain reads symmetry and wont notice, as in Life; until it is pronounced. I really admire people who can draw well and have been watching Watercolour and Coloured Pencil vids... i love the results that can be achieved! I'm a Collagiste, i realised my draughtmanship severely lacked, then i drew figurative works, heads, bodies, no faces... still very expressive.. then i discovered collage and 'haven't looked back since' I wish you well.
@TheRomane54

@Song Mei nature aims for nothing. Nature is not a living being, so it can't "want" thing. Sorry, a biologist that like to draw comes by 😂 It happends that cells have same or different objectives. I has happend that "cells objectives on the outside" on humans are symetrical. (Because cells divisions when being a fetus and specialisation) But every tissues, cells, etc has their own development and it can't be identical. So yeah, the first comment is true. But symmetrical is more appealing to the eyes, and in art you can make any choices you want.
@mistertoad6497

@@TheRomane54 The phrase " Nature aims for symmetry" was just a figure of speech. Nevertheless it is useful to think of Nature ('Guia' if you will) as something which needs to be considered as a complete entity ie as if it were indeed, a single massive organism. Symmetry, in nature, exists for practical reasons, thus: "When an organism normally moves in one direction, it inevitably has a front or head end. This end encounters the environment before the rest of the body as the organism moves along, so sensory organs such as eyes tend to be clustered there, and similarly it is the likely site for a mouth as food is encountered. A distinct head, with sense organs connected to a central nervous system, therefore (on this view) tends to develop (cephalization). Given a direction of travel which creates a front/back difference, and gravity which creates a dorsal/ventral difference, left and right are unavoidably distinguished, so a bilaterally symmetric body plan is widespread and found in most animal phyla. At least 99% of animals are bilaterally symmetric, including humans." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symmetry_in_biology

For the uneven eyes problem, I take that as something I need to improve on. I first draw the left eye slowly, then draw the right eye while looking at the left one. After the sketch, I take a picture of it and flip horizontally to see if there's any mistakes. And also, if it's during the night and you have a big light source, I flip the drawing on the light to see the other side.
@jeanniemcd0321

hi im just irrelevant but that is a very good idea bc I have the same problem ,something I do to help it to draw both eyes at the same time,for instance drawing the left pupil then adding the right pupil and just going thru step by step.

For the brighter colors (she said brilliant but I'm assuming she meant brighter!) you can mix your color with white guache, make sure you add a lot of the watercolor, it's going to be brighter and more saturated too depending on what mix you have, plus it's easier cause you can erase your mistakes like this, not permanently but it's much better (and cheaper) solution.

There is an easier way to get a symmetrical sketch. You can just copy the layer. Then flip one layer. Set the toplayer transparency to 50%. That way you can choose where you want the layer. Erase half of the faces, the right layer from the right side, the left layer of the left side. Set the layer transparency back to 100% and combine your two layers together. Voila!
