I don't usually have these street desserts, but there is a traditional sweet that I like, and it's called "bánh đậu xanh" or mung bean cake. It's mung bean cooked to perfection, mashed, sweetened, and then formed into squares and cut into smaller squares. It's slightly sweet, kinda dry, and has a unique flavor. The dryness is actually preferred because we don't just eat it by itself; we pair it with a hot cup of tea. To me this is the Vietnamese answer to English tea and cake.

"bò bía" itself is a borrowed word "popiah" from Cantonese, I think, or from Fujian/Teochew. It is not originally Vietnamese so it's not "beef something" hahaha. It is a rolled up dessert, and it's quite good. You can find popiah sold in Singapore as well, because there's a Teochew community there.
@mimimarcus
Ай бұрын
Yes, you're right that the term "bò bía" is referring to a Cantonese dish, but that dish is a savory dish that was modified to fit local tastes when some Cantonese immigrated into Vietnam decades or centuries ago. However, the dessert here is a 100% Vietnamese dish. It just borrowed the term "bò bía" to describe itself as a roll dish.

Next time you should really bring "Tào phớ" to a video. It's similar to Chè but not quite. To me it's kinda like if Flan and Chè have a child together. The "flan" in Tào Phớ is Tofu (or something I have no idea) that's been sweetened and just melts in your mouth. It's custardy and creamy but still very light. Usually tào phớ is served hot for some reason but when it's ice cold like Chè, sheesh. And also when it's sold at a vendor that just keeps moving around, the "Tào phớ" song is so catchy and iconic lol (Same with "Bánh Đúc" and many more) XD Edit: so the Tào Phớ "flan" isn't sweetened, I haven't had it in a while so yeah :")
