I drove my semi into the Grand Canyon N.P.... oops! I'd planned to find a spot along the road and drop my set of doubles and enter the Park with just the tractor. But not finding a spot I ended up at the entrance looking for a way to turn around. The gate had recently been relocated and an old gas station just inside the boundary had just been torn down. After a little discussion with the Ranger, she allowed me to park the trailers along the old raised fuel island (w/room so others could get around) and proceed with the tractor to see the rim. This was in Feb., so it being the off-season certainly enabled them to be more accommodating. I got extremely lucky!

I've been and seen every single place you talked about except the Florida keys (someday) Absolutely agree with your "don't go list" been to all of them (hated every single one) multiple times! I want to add one to the list.... Philadelphia,,, I got myself into such a pickle there (when I was a new driver) that I had to call the non emergency police, they were very helpful and I thought I was going to get a ticket but no! The cop said, "if you would have continued on and hit that low bridge, then I would have a handful of tickets for you but you did the correct thing and stopped and called us! Awesome video Dave!

My favorite places so far, I like going through back roads of Kentucky and Tennessee. Cambellsville ky has very beautiful scenery post card like in areas. Upper peninsula Michigan I dont get to go there very often but it's nice. Western rural areas like Montana, the dakotas Texas is ok, but their entrance and exit ramps are weird. Most of the southern states, a lot of Tennessee and Kentucky areas people are very curtious I just notice that alot there. Places I avoid #1 Chicago at all costs #2 any place in Jersey and the northern east coast New place unto avoid, pilot in Tuscolussa Al. Been there last week and was swamped with pan handlers. 5 at 1 stop. Dave do you have any suggestions on how to repel these people? Or could you do a vid on this? Thanks

Top 5 best scenery locations 1. Trucking I-80 from Omaha to Salt Lake City. (I just love how things change as you drive this stretch of road.) 2. Us Highway 35 from Dayton Ohio to I 64 in WV. 3. Crossing the Mississippi River @ St. Louis at night near the arch. 4. Painted Canyon in N. Dakota and the Black Hills in S. Dakota. 5. Chesapeake Bay Bridge and tunnel. Honorable mentions. Great River Road along the Mississippi River. Highway 287 out of Colorado to Dallas Texas. ( and I know some people will be like what?) U.s. Highway 36 from st. Joseph Mo. - Colorado. 5 worst. ( pretty much everything that was mentioned in the video) Some dishonorable mentions... Greenville Mississippi Canton, Akron Ohio area Philadelphia area Gloucester City New Jersey.

A small correction. The Mackinac bridge doesn't go to the island, it connects the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan. It's also pronounced Mackinaw. The UP is another beautiful drive in the non winter months. I also have to throw in the I-5 corridor once you get north of Redding, CA. You hit lake Shasta and have a few days off georgeous mountain driving clear to Tacoma.

You're insane brother, I used to work for USxpress my first year otr and upon arriving to our terminal in Chicago I realized that I was infact the ONLY white dude withing atleast a 1 mile radius including all of the drivers. I went inside and encountered some of the shittiest most rude assholes I've ever met in my entire life. I actually almost got into a fist fight with a fellow company driver because i was being too careful while stirring my coffee and held him up for 5 seconds.. On the way to a food bank we deliver to in the DC area I stopped at a red light and a car pulled up on my driver side. A black girl looked at me from the passenger side and made the universal BJ motion With her hand and mouth, I honestly thought she was asking for a cigarette because I just couldn't believe that a hooker just "serviced" a dude and then while still in the car with him was trying to get another customer so I pulled one out of my shirt pocket and offered it to her. Suddenly The driver floored it and ran the red light and dropped her off a few blocks up. As I was coming to a stop at the red light where she was dropped off at this girl literally ran directly out in front of me loaded with 45klbs of tomato products flagging me down. I swerved to avoid her and decided I better just run this red light and get the hell outta there lol. The DC area at night never seems to disappoint me.

Just my 2¢ for what its worth. Anything west of I-35 is different mentality than everything east of there. I got out of it in 2000, I still miss my Northwest routes sometimes, they were the best to me back in the day.LTL seafood to Seattle, seafood back to Jersey, man what a trip! Best List: #1 Missoula MT &Flathead Valley - layed over there once for the weekend, went skiing. Bob tailed up the slope, not most brilliant thing to do without chains! #2 Grand Tetons in Wyoming - mountain scenery like none other in lower 48 #3 Maine Coastline on Hwy 1- Down East Maine at peak leaf season is stunning, postcard material for sure. #4 Crater Lake, Oregon & the Cascades- you hafta take the drive off the beaten paths to understand! #5 Utah & Southwest destinations - not as commercialized as Colorado, lots of great places to see & do! Honorable Mention: Upper Peninsula of Michigan - out of the East Coast ratrace. San Antonio TX- Great Rodeo if you can take time out. California Hwy 101- Pacific Coast scenery for miles & miles, can't get in a hurry on this one! Worst Destinations: New Orleans - had to many bad experiences there. Bay Area of Cal- to many people, not truck friendly. Miami & Orlando- Rough places, pushy people Boston- Narrow roads, congested Detroit- Bad Roads, typical border crossing town. Compton is actually really easy to navigate through. Its not a ghetto, its a manufacturing city. Rap music gave it a bad image. I'm from LA so I'm built for driving there but my codriver can't handle it. I typically have to do the running there. Traffic can kill your hours so I try to run at night.
