First thing I did to mine was wheel weights, beadlocks wheels and Rock Creepers... completely transformed it (even though now a more powerful servo would definitely help)!

Great video as always Francis! I appreciate this video because it shows what these trucks are capable of. The one thing that bothers me about the small scale trucks is lack of dampening, making them bounce around too much. Looks like I’ll be adding an Axial to my fleet soon!

That out runner motor looks so badass spinning around on a crawler like that 🤘 truly an epic upgrade. I love my scx 24 deadbolt. My favorite additions so far: the remote 3rd channel module to control my light bar on top. I have it set up so I can run it at night with a 5.8g fpv camera sitting in the roll cage area all protected and whatnot. Then I noticed putting brass weights inside the tires and doing the wide axel upgrade took its handling characteristics to a whole new level. At that point I absolutely needed to upgrade the steering servo since I kept stripping em out, so I highly recomend the ALL METAL version of the emax servo specifically. The things that can be done with screw type differentials are amazing.

The issue with the stock servo is actually the servo saver that the SCX24 comes with - its quite loose and when you apply weight on the car then the servo saver eliminates most of the steering "travel". Glue it together or use a fixed servo horn instead of the saver its coming with. I run the EMAX in one of my C10 and in the other I have the stock one and its actually quite ok.

I don't know how the design of the servo saver in the SCX24 is, but the Losi Mini community tells everyone to zip-tie their servo savers to clean up the slop inherent in that car's servo saver. Obviously not too tight in their case, but for a crawler I'd imagine you could get away with a tighter binding

If you really want the performance ditch that revolver and put a barrage or other larger brushed motor in the stock location. Or a mofo RC mini brushless. The furitec esc works great with brushed motors as well. Makes massive difference over that “giant” revolver.

I bought the SKP Engineering Warthog chassis and it's EXTREMELY low CG. I put the EMax ES08MDii servo in, brass wheel spacers, brass diff covers, RC4WD 2.4" Mud Slingers, and melted the links for clearance. I still have the original motor, receiver and axles. It's great for being a budget build. I purchased from AMain, Amazon and eBay. Lots of work, but it does great. I have video of it on my page, as well as an upgrades video for both of my SCX24s. I bought the FMS Atlas 6x6 and upgraded the servo and wheel weights. Now it's actually decent! The wheel weights work across several different cars, even the FMS Toyota our buddy bought.

How big of a deal are the 2 different stock and radio/esc combinations? I am considering the deadbolt for $99 with the the more basic radio (and more basic esc?) vs the Jeep Rubicon (about $124) which has the carbon fiber looking Horizon radio (and possibly a better esc?) I saw a video comparison that showed that the more basic radio and esc had more lag before moving and more esc whine. But I thought I might upgrade these parts anyway. I like the look of the deadbolt a bit better, and it might be a slightly better body for weight,.

For you, where does suspension fall on your upgrade order of install? I'll be honest, I've spent way too much time and money on suspension upgrades for these little guys, and I don't really feel like I'm in a better place with any of them over stock suspension. Servo and tires made the biggest improvements for me.

Sorry but I disagree with the comment about the brass or parts being cheaper because it's smaller. 1/24th scale seems to be way over priced in terms of brass vs 1/10th scale or in terms of price per quantity of material. The hot racing front knuckles are $25.99+ and look at what you get versus say parts for a 1/10th scale. You seem to get a screwed on value for 1/24th scale stuff. Some brass knuckles are the same price for the SCX10 and the part probably has 200% more material than what was used for the 1/24th scale. That being said my 1/24th deadbolt is my first crawler but I wish I went 1/10th scale instead.

@@mickd8188 I do all the quoting for a CNC manufacturing facility, from Swiss machines to 40” chuck 5 axis VTL’s. Machine time is 100% the driving factor. I actually built up a quote just for fun to see what it would cost, of course there’s no way I can touch Chinese manufacturing prices. These would cost double if made in the USA, and that was with me being very optimistic on machining time. Material cost had also gone through the roof in the last two years with no end in sight.
