The reason 400 speed doesn't feel that fast is because all units have an animation cap. Meaning that pretty much everything has a cap to movement speed

Except the number used in calculations, i.e. calculating a charge, is the one of the unit card. So there is a visual movement cap but not a technical one.

Until they remove pocket dimension, ladders, walls will not mean anything ever. I think perhaps the simplest solution would be to have units climb ladders much slower and maybe that would be enough to make the difference. Until then everyone is just going to cheese it

Sieges will never be balanced. T4/5 Towers are to OP. Early sieges will always be pushovers and late sieges will always be totally annoying because of the guaranteed 20 stack sitting in every single city with another 16 sitting outside and t5 exploding, magical missiles wrecking your units...

I feel like the addittion of specific upgrades to walls and fortifications would benefit the siege battles immensely. Try imaging something like this : maybe through specific resources or simply through money, the settlement can be upgraded with cauldrons of boiling oil, spiked walls, reinforced walls, pits right outside the walls or even mud pits to slow the enemy while they approach. (also,the addition of more places to build barricades is a freaking GOD-SEND!)

One of the main reasons I have trouble with sieges is just mostly the AI, which I'm not sure if it's been addressed in the update. Giving an order for a unit to climb walls or move through gates is an absolute pain because the units split up and you can't even see where your actual unit is because they're separated across the map sometimes. But the infinite building thing is good at least. Destroying a tower just for it to be back in 90 seconds after wasting all your ammo on it is frustrating. Another issue I hope they address it clarifying line of sight because there has been a lot of times you just wonder why your ranged units aren't firing when they have clear line of sight, and this happens in sieges as well from the battlements. I think they need to have clearer icons like they have on the unit cards that show better if they're in combat or anything related like that because there's so many times you don't know if your unit is actually doing what you want them to do.

The Improving of the homing of magic missiles will certainly also increase the use of talismans adding magical resistance. Since more projectiles are more likely to hit, more magical defence will be essential

I think there should still be more incentive to defend the walls, like perhaps give defending units on the wall a 10 to 20% missile resistance, a 10 to 15% boost range for ranged units (since they are elivated above the ground. I also think that units defending the walls should get a plus 15 to 20% melee defence and melee attack, and units scaling the walls should get a minus 10 to 15% percent melee defence, aswell as losing some stamina aswell, because scaling a wall with ladders in armor carrying weapons and defending against attacks from the walls would be tiring, and attempting to get on the walls from either a siege tower or from ladders would be very diffictult and dangerous if there are defenders there. Now given all these buffs the defender clearly has the advantege, so perhaps the attacker would get extra currency for their army would balance things out

ALL they need, is to bring back carrying ladders Like Siege towers, but you get like 2 for free, and each build gives you another 3 or something So units can't just walk up to the wall and climb it. They're gonna have a limit of the locations they can climb. So you can actually defend it. As it is now. Unless you can defend the ENTIRE wall its pointless. They'll climb up and flank your unit. And Archers can be attacked in melee easilly with the butt-laders So unless you're in the Cathay Bastion where you get enough units and the wall's small enough. The walls are litterally a downside to defend in most cases (the AI spends a turn building siege gear and gives you attrition instead of full strength garrison

Some of your suggestions are currently in the game: - Units on walls should receive reduced missile damage already. - Elevation of ranged units increases missile damage, though I don't think it increases the range (see blogpost on terrain). - Units using ladders expend a great amount of stamina and lose melee attack and defence as a result of that. I do agree that some additional incentive to stay on the wall after the very first contact would be great, such as a melee buff as you suggested.

@@kharnthebetrayer8251 indeed, perhaps infantry can have climbing ropes for free, like in older total war games, but they would climb up it slowly, and only 1 or 2 can actually climb on it at the same time. When a soldier gets very close to the top a defender soldier can attack them, and the soldier climbing up would get a minus 30 or 40% melee defence whilst climbing. Lastly, each soldier that gets to the top will either be tired, very tired or exhausted. This would make more sense from a more realistic standpoint, climbing a rope is tiring, especially if you're equiped with weapons and armor, and one gets near the top a defending soldier can attack you, and since you're climbing a rope you'll be hard pressed to defend yourself

Climbing ladders eats through vigor like nothing. So your units will be hitting those Fatigue debuffs. Between the differences in unit models between all the different factions and the different unit models intra-factions, the work involved in making different ladder-carrying animations is beyond what the modeling team can realistically put time into. It's far better to have implied ladder carrying. It's not like ladders are hard to build, it's entirely logical that a full army can build them in a couple of hours from their baggage train or the surrounding area. And it's not like Total War has had ladders like this for a long time. They stopped making ladders after Medieval 2. Empire and Napoleon have infantry with grappling hooks to rapel up for fort walls, Shogun 2 has infantry climb walls with their bare hands and Rome 2 and Attila has a set of scaffolding ladders be built automatically for besieging armies. All that really needs to be done for ladders is to make the units climbing them more vulnerable so there's more incentive to use siege towers. Extra damage, chance to fall when attacked, period of vulnerability beyond just being tired when on the walls, stuff like that.

I'm super excited for the disengage changes. I feel like that will make my cavalry a whole lot more effective if they're not constantly getting bogged down by one or two models. This patch kind of feels like an olive branch from CA. Like, just trying to fix some things that people have been complaining about for a while. I like it.

The skill respect button is welcome. The mod before this was pretty much necessary when the AI us generally pick terrible skills and whatnot, but I feel this is better than the mod because 3 turns is more balanced than 1000 gold, especially for late game economic powerhouse factions. And 400 speed Greasus will always be amazing.

Unit speed is essentially capped through animations. With the right set-up, you can get Skaven weapon teams to have the same speed value as some cavalry horses, but they'll still be much slower.

I'm so happy that they fixed the horribly annoying settlement towers thing, those buggers having insane range and the Ai constantly popping them back up when you break one...was so annoying. Now can clear a area and move in bit by bit without towers chipping away at me constantly.

I never knew about the models getting stuck in combat on a dis engage. Explains soo many frustrating moments where I gave retreat commands over and over even shift clicking them and getting soo frustrated my units wouldnt pull out XD

Very good changes indeed. I just want more places to place the towers and better positions.Many times they are obstructed,cant shoot,or a simple tree blocking the shots (lizardman map). Is Hellcannon shot homing fixed?

Having blockable sections on BOTH sides of a chokepoint is a great improvement. The idea was always you block one and put men on the other side but it was just annoying AF, you'd put your blokes on one side and then they'd go and attack your blockade and you'd have to run around to their rear or pull back and get behind your barrier, it was super annoying. This feels like a step in the right direction finally

They still haven't fixed the biggest problem with sieges which is that every Fucking infantry unit having ladders makes walls completely useless because if they have sufficiently strong infantry (which is the default for some races) there's literally nothing you can do to stop the walls being stormed. People have said that ladders should be built and not given for free, but I have a different solution; Make it fucking suicidal to climb a ladder into defending infantry, as it bloody was historically. At the minute climbing troops only get Exhausted, which is basically worthless if it's Chaos Warriors climbing into Swordsmen. They should get that, plus a massive melee defence penalty, plus a big leadership penalty so if they're climbing into slaughter the guys at the bottom say "fuck this I'm out"

The arse spawning ladders do need to go. The old way of building them per turn was way better. You could build like half a dozen per turn while sieging compared to like 1 or two siege towers if I remember correctly. Though they could do something like the army depending upon its troop count could show up with a minimum amount; 1000 soldiers showing up with 4 ladders that could be destroyed or something.

The HP scales with lvl of the settlement. It goes beyond 12K for gate. Max I think is 16K

Walls will never be worth defending until units don't have pocket ladders. It's one of the stupidest decisions CA ever made. There are so many flying and monstrous units its not exactly difficult to get on the walls/thru the gates. Especially with how siege attrition now works its not a big issue to either wait a turn to build siege towers or break down the gate.

This is a good direction but still not enough. It would be nice if they made the "pop-up" towers not pop up. Just make them permanent fixtures that you just kind of occupy. Barricades being spontaneously built is actually kinda okay but entire bloody towers? Nah, man. I've wondered why they go through the trouble of making race specific siege towers but can't be assed to do the same with the pop-up towers. We see them a lot more than the siege towers.

The campaign achievement conditions aint that big of a deal since since when completing the end game crisis it counts as ultimate victory, so you can just put the will of hashut or the tomb kings one if you are close to it ( which are the most conventient ones to do) on the lowest difficulty and its faster most of the times than the long conditions if you dont wanna play for that long.

ah neat. removing the condesending "CuRs GaMe DeSiGn!" strangeness with the baricades. the respecc is a major improvement, it means i'l not have to make late-game desitions early. espetialy bad on franz whom shoud be the army-buffing type but i used to go duel or uppkeep reduction curs i'd not have the right units early

The increase in wall/tower health WOULD be good.... if it wasn't for butt ladders. A good solution would be to just make them buildable like siege towers. 1 turn for 2 ladders. 2 turns for a siege towers. 2 turns for a gate smasher.

it would be nice if my full stack army could actually build siege equipment in a reasonable amount of time. Sure it'll take me 3-4 turns until I'm comfortable with what I have, but that's way better than having to wait 10 turns, by which point the settlement is almost completely annihilated anyways.

And u should get supply for every turn it shouldnt make sense that a city i owned for 100 turns have like 1000 supply. That would logical be a flourishing town away from war and rich in supply so i should be able to Max it out. While other cities beign taken each and every turn should be low in supply because of the war. Would make it more fun. But im happy you cant rebulld tho i wish you could only build before the battle. I think it's pretty stupid that walls and gates have the same HP. A wall should absolutely have more hp than a gate. And if you can't take the victory point till you take the key building that just means the victory point isn't important if you can just defend the key building. Why not just do away with the idea of victory points entirely and just make it so you actually have to, oh I don't know, kill the defenders?

Victory points exist to prevent exploits by having the defenders just run out of town to evade the attacking army until the timer runs out.

@@resileaf9501 there shouldn't be a timer either. The battle should go on until someone wins, you know, like in an actual war.

@@lethality666 In ancient times? Yeah, that's what they did most of the time. You can't see shit in the dark, you have no idea how the battle's going. Unless you're specifically preparing for a night battle, you're going to pull back your troops, encamp for the night and reassemble the next day.
