Personally, if I see a hair tutorial and notice the person has mixed hair, I immediately stop watching. There's no point trying to learn something from someone with a different hair texture from my 4c! Although I generally remain open minded and realize I can still learn a thing or two. I am confident to say I understand my hair pretty well and know what works and what doesn't. I leaned quickly when all the craze about coconut oil was out. My hair doesn't like it. It just sits on my hair! Also about what you said regarding deep conditioning over night. Nah, waste of time.

Yes! The deep conditioning over night does not allow your hair to become more moisurized. It just sits on top of your hair and some people may not rinse all of it out and it will just lead to more product build up and an itchy scalp. I did it multiple times and my scalp was on fire. If anything hair steamers are will allow more moisture to penetrate hair strands!

Xavier Thompson It can also lead to over moisturization. I had this happen to me pre-youtube.

Yess, too much manipulation can damage your hair as it did mine. I use to always do braid outs, twist outs, and super tight slick buns, and eventually my curl pattern completely changed for the worst. Since, I’ve cut off my damaged curly ends and stopped doing those hairstyles frequently, my curls are poppin. Thank you for pointing this out, because for a long time I thought I was the only one who believed too much manipulation can damage your curl pattern.

And you are sooo right about overnight deep conditioning. Every time I leave any wet deep conditioner in my hair for like 2 hours by mistake sometimes my hair becomes kinda mushy and I don't like it. I would never attempt overnight! The only thing my hair likes overnight is coconut oil or some type of penetrating oil only.

You are soooooo ooooo ooooo right about not cutting your type hair wet because it is definitely gona be a whole lot shorter... I have the same pattern as well and the salon always cut too much off because it was wet, which is why I stopped going... I cut and shape my own hair dry and it's more healthier and thicker... Great tips

Just discovered your channel, and I LOVE IT! I said that to say that I hope you answer this even though I’m super late, but I have flat twists in my hair CONSTANTLY because I’m in the Army and it’s the only style that keeps me within the regulations at this current point of my hair journey. Like literally, I wear it twisted EVERYDAY except maybe on some weekends when I want to let it breathe a bit. I can’t do weave because my scalp is super tender and it itches, same as other styles like box braids, so I don’t know what else to do!! It would be awesome if you elaborated on your comment about the braids and twists. I did realize I was manipulating it a bit too much because the sweating I do every morning for pt (and not being able to wear a head wrap in uniform) messed up my hair so I redid it almost every morning, but I’m getting better with that. Sorry if this is a lot, I just really thought I was doing my hair good by using this protective style but if you’re telling me this is why my hair has been stuck at this same length, then I’m just SOL and might as well just cut it again and keep it short 😣😣

*Great vid CG♥I never paid attention to what type of hair I have. I'm Naturally Nappy...all day...LOL!! I'm actually a waver during the Summer months but during the colder months I rock boxed braids. I've noticed a change in texture or just how much straighter my hair has become from the constant brushing that I do to maintain my waves. The one thing I have tried is a lot of diff products on my hair from watching other people and what they're using. ALL HAIR PRODUCTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL Y'ALL.I have tossed products because it simply did not work for me and I don't have the coin to spend like that to be doing that.* *As far as leaving conditioner in...guilty as charged but I'm not necessarily deep conditioning. Conditioner just defines my little curls and once its dry, its soft. I do rinse out the next morning and apply my EcoStyler gel though.*

Does any deep conditioner even instruct you to leave it in overnight. I am that person that follows the instructions. I don’t leave in rinse out conditioners because there are leave in conditioners for that. Again, I follow the instructions. Works for me. A stylist once told me she had a client that slept on conditioner all the time and her hair mildewed. Ok that’s disgusting. She said it took a while to get the smell out. I have 4b-4c hair, initially I could not finger detangle but with soaking wet hair, sectioned off with lots of conditioner, it works for me. My texture seemed to have changed because I couldn’t rake through my hair and do a wash and go, I had to Shingle, but now I can. It’s been a year and a half. Things change. I guess the hair has to be trained.

Some deep conditioners will designate for extra moisture leave in over night although its probably unnecessary. I guess it depends on your hair and scalp.

For me my hair is picky about the ph of products. My shampoo must be around 5.5, 5 for conditioner, leave-ins have to be 4.5--5 or my super thick hair is rendered a tangled unmanageable nightmare. And my hair loves to be combed and I use mineral oil sometimes when detangling b/c the slip it gives is awesome

Thank you about finger detangling because I have a similar hair texture as you do and there is no way I can finger detangle..I have tried then the following wash day I ended up with a big tangled matted mess at the roots of my hair!!

Im a 3b3c and i need a comb 😃i tried that method and trust, it dont work for me. My hair is to curly for that. But if im just gone do a retwist for the night i wont use a come, i just spary some water and twist or plat my hair up in about 5 braids. But washing yes i need my detangler comb or my brush. And i always cut my ends dry to. Like you said, you may be cutting off to much.

Can you explain to me what it means when people say you over moisturize your hair. Talking about how you're hair can become like a rubber band if their is too much moisture? Do you think this is true?
@CurlyGuy
6 жыл бұрын
Mrsx Breezy yes, it just means your hair has too much moisture and not enough protein to keep its structure. Just be sure to keep a balance of moisture and protein.
@doThatGWalk
6 жыл бұрын
Mrsx Breezy yes it can be over moisturized easily. I use Nature's Gate Conditioners because they have Hydrolyzed Quinoa Proteins to balance it out so I never really have to worry about my moisture/protein balance.

Curly Guy I definitely do both! Just did a protein treatment Tuesday. I do mine like once a month or every other month since I'm low porosity
@MrsBreezybaby

doThatGWalk what brand is that. That sounds really nice. All of my deep conditioners have a protein good for low porosity hair that works really good on mine and once a month or ever over I'll do a protein mask especially if I see breakage

Mrsx Breezy It's just a rinse out conditioner(Nature's Gate) but it is so cost effective. 18 oz for $6.99 or less online. Try the Pomegranate/Sunflower version. It's my favourite now because the scent is fruity & light yet makes me so happy. The slip is good too because I could get the Tangle Teezer through my fine hair + it has 7 hair nutrients & the hydrolyzed quinoa plus is Vegan & Silicone free. I've been using the other versions for months.

Tina Marie for example I have similar hair texture to his and my hair does better with finger detailing. When I used utensils I was ripping my hair out and causing too much stress on it. When I stopped my hair got healthier.
