Personally, I learned a lot from the Subtle art of not giving a f*ck and not falling prey to the flashy title, I honestly loved the book. It has very blunt and solid points which the world needs right now. And, I will still say that everyone should give it a shot. If you didn't learn anything from the book or were not able to grasp his perspective, doesn't mean nobody else will! My perspective got shifted to a whole different paradigm after reading the book. And talking about the F bombs, never ever in your life get so much caught up into the words that you miss the very gist it's trying to convey. That's all I would say!

I would like to disagree with you on this book to be white man rant. I found it to be more of an anti-self help book and the philosophy of book resembled to Buddhism or Stocisim. It's all about owning up your responsibility for your actions, try to know why you are feeling that emotion and accept that things can go bad. It's same like Stoic concept of things under our control and things which are not. I hope one day you will do an episode on philosophy of Stoicism and books Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Letters of a Stoic by Seneca and Man's search for meaning by Viktor Frankl. I will definitely read the book you have recommended especially Last lecture by Randy Pausch.
@srajput3247

I second this. It's anti-self help in a sense and it's definitely anti-pop optimism/non-realism/follow your passion, etc sort of material. White boy rant or not, he makes some good points. Even if there's nothing new there. I guess you can say it's a rehash of all the core wisdom there is presented in a contemporary ( hitting it hard) way.... Did we read the same book 🙄
@UdayTejaOriginal

On the contrary, I think the book is pitching the same concept ,which other self help books pitch, but with different and twisted set of words. I think she is correct that the book is white man rant or rather drunkard rant but the catch is who says a drunkard rant doesn't contain insightful things . Just like drunkard rant this book also contains traces of insightful things. The narration felt that the author himself isn't convinced with the theories presented. Thought I get it why you are comparing this with philosophies of stoic, buddhism ,e.t.c but Its like comparing every " Keep doing work don't think about results" with BhagvadGita's quote about "Karma"(its just an analogy,sorry if its a bad one). Both these statements look similar but they have lots of contextual difference between then and using it out of context might be harmful. same goes with the book i think , it looks similar to such philosophy but is different. There are no convincing arguments in support of author points. I am not disrespecting your opinion just telling my perspective. (As soon as I completed the book I too wanted to rant about the book but can't find a place until now so sorry if you had to bear the brunt of my rant)

Subtle art is great book for me bcoz it tell us that through struggle we find meaning in our life. He has mentioned Buddhist philosophy about the 'Suffering' in life is gonna be there no matter what.And through Right understanding we can reduce it... And right now I am reading Sapiens and gonna read Homo deus .🙂

Vinay Mandare good point vinay, mark does hint on Buddhism in his book but just grazes past it to make it applicable to his point of view. Nothing wrong in that except for the fact that you run the danger of oversimplifying a great philosophy to its tactical application in a narrow minded way, for instance he doesn’t talk about discipline which is also a Buddhist philosophy and only keeping it to suffering give me only half the picture and not complete

A very misleading start to the video. The authority with which you guys misinterpret the book and mislead people about the book is a vey bad move. Also commenting/attacking the author about his race is the worst thing you could've done. It's called reverse racism. Although some of the books you guys recommended are obviously good but you can't just misbrand a book with words such as "rant" and "white privilege" on the basis of the writing style. It seems to me as a deliberate effort to demolish an author's reputation. If advise you to please read the book again and try to learn the concepts that are talked about in the book then only make a conception about it.

One book that should definitely be added here is Educated. It's the memoir of Tara Westover. For me she's one of the best examples of a person who took initiative for changing her life. Do pick this book up and would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I think it's quite a good read which offers us some different ways to look at life which we normally don't do. The title is a bit misleading though, It doesn't teach you how not to give a fuck to anything, It teaches you how to give fucks to only the things that really matter. So I don't thing there is any point of hating on the book. Anyways, Thanks for the book suggestions !!

The Incredible Chowdhury I have many issues with the novel. 1. It’s bullish and brattish, it’s written in a condescending tone and comes across as someone who is throwing a tantrum. That’s my personal opinion so don’t hate me for it . 2. There’s nothing new in the book except for expansion of ideas previously stated in his blog piece 3. It reeks of white man privilege, it’s misogynistic it’s too much use of curse words and I don’t relate to the content and his issues one bit Having said that the fact that he’s been able to create relevance means he’s done something right. I just feel there are better more deeper books out there that help resolve our issues in a more constructive manner

Instead Of fantasying about positivity author wants you to accept your problems and deal with them. Thoughts are very much deep in book and author is very good with philosophy. Idk if you've read the book lol. Coz he doesn't act like an entitled white man and he says that you should give an eff to some things. But not everything. Instead of trying to think positive ALL the time we should accept the problems in our life and solve them. Life will never be perfect. We will always have problems and that's okay. We just need to be more comfortable with having those problems.

Definitely, I've read a lot of books on Buddhism and this book added nothing new, and as a man I found it highly misogynistic. The first chapter was brilliant but the rest of it was me, me, me, me....f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck. Plus the guy has zero credentials to be taken seriously, I could go to a bar and I could get the same advice from an entitled egotistical man. It doesn't help that either that he mentions studies but doesn't cite any of them, the book has zero bibliography. To be honest it was a fun read. But nothing new, it may be "revolutionary" for the swearing, but other than that it's like any other self help book from the previous decade.

Cringed at your title (cough - click bait), then you lost me finally and completely when you said the F word to describe another book !! ...haha all the while trying to convey earlier that it's the f word that sold TSAONGF !! Byyyyyeeee 👋👋👋

@booksontoast It distils the principles of stoicism in a consumable format, which I believe are important to chill and not give too many fucks in the current climate and the fact that you've posted this video clearly shows your inability to do so.

Ashwin Ramdas this book on Stoicism, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is a way better read IMHO :)

Yes, Sharin I've read it. Although, I think 'a guide to a good life' by William Irvine is a better read on the subject. Also, it was good to see stoic philosophy in mainstream with 'the subtle art....'. So, the reply may have come across as more hostile than it needed to be. I honestly love the work you guys do btw.

WTF are you talking about "the subtle art..." Being white privileged rants? I get that there are better books to read and are being overshadowed by this one, but it ain't shit!

You are assuming way too much. You need more life experience little girl. Let me guess you are gonna save the world right after you get your own apartment.
