Great tips! Re. the drawstring threader - in my family we use a large safety pin. You can feel it through the fabric and push/pull it to complete the waist.

@@kodomotachi1 We do too! But for these pants, I didn't have any drawstrings. These came with strings and threader (also, it was a lot easier than a safety pin). 😊

If you have (closet / storage) space, which of course is a stupid waste of money, store no longer fitting stuff away, boxed or sacked, with labels above or below which weight it fitted, assuming you 'll jojo there again. Get sewing machinery. You don't need to get extremely skilled. A butchered job to make your old tents fit snug tells the world (& fishes for compliments!) about your dieting success, although you are still slightly chubby. Wear what you love, until it falls apart, mend it, and you 'll receive handmedowns from others. Big friends are a great source of warm stuff, to wear over your protective gear, in winter.

Before Covid shut everything down, our Goodwill would take all clothes that had the same color tag and put them on sale 2 for 88 cents. I found a nice black double breasted heavy black winter coat for 44 cents. I think it may be a man's coat, but with a pink stocking hat and scarf it looks girly enough for me! I would also buy the 44 cent jeans for craft projects. I was looking through them once and found an Eddie Bauer pair in my size. They were a little snug in the waist so I found a similar color of denim in my stash and added a panel on each side, and it worked great. I think Eddie Bauer jeans sell for $90 to $100 now. Getting deals like this is a much bigger thrill for many of us than going to the mall and spending hundreds like some people do! Thanks for another great video!!

Great tips. Like you, I am not buying any new clothes this year. I have all I need. Since switching to a capsule wardrobe a few years ago, I rarely need to buy much, but I'm wanting to maximise our savings this year. My best tip is to dress for the life you currently have - not what you used to have (or fit), or a fantasy life. I work from home and don't need any corporate wear. Just a few nice outfits for church/weddings etc.

Great video. My Grandmother made a quilt using my clothes from when I was a little girl. I treasure that quilt. My Grandmother made the quilt by hand. I do most of what you have talked about. One tip I might mention is that I use vinegar in the rinse cycle for black clothes. This really helps.

I very rarely use the dryer for anything! I have washed in cold water on gentle quick wash or just rinse with baking soda, or hand wash! I also use laundry bags for delicates. I never waste money for fabric softener! Never understood why anyone would do that! FS also keeps rags and towels from absorbing water!

My great grandmas 1930s hack, collect welfare in Canada, while working as a seamstress in Detroit to the wealthy families. Those wealthy families gave her their old clothes which she brought back and made beautiful clothing for her kids. When the welfare officers came to inspect their home, they hid the remade kids clothes, hid their nice shoes and left out the welfare shoes and clothing. True story, my great grandfather also made money on the side smuggling booze into the states while working on the car ferry from Windsor to Detroit, he was a small time rum runner. My great grandmother was mother to my grandma and my great grandfather was father to my grandpa. My dads side made moonshine in Ontario. Ingenuity was the theme of the day to survive .

@Susan Dwyer my great grandma passed away in 1958, never met her, my mom wanted a new Sunday dress to wear to Church, she told me that my great grandma took one look at her and made the dress that fit perfectly. My great grandma never used a pattern, or measured much, just looked at a person and knew. Now that's talent.

Be careful with minimalist wardrobes. I tried that for a bit when my weight was up and money was tight. I had 4 good bottoms and about 6 good tops. I am a great laundress and take care of my clothes. But 3 years of nonstop wear really wears things out. I literally wore holes in them and they were threadbare, all at about the same time. Just think, 3 years of roughly 5 items in rotation is about 220 wears (and usually washes) per item!

I’m sure Ritz dye has Jean dye. Try a fabric store, craft section of Walmart or online. You can put patches on either the inside or outside. Even cut shapes out of fabric to use as patches for a little fun.

I worked where we could not wear blue jeans but we could wear colored jeans.I am very hard on clothes and I worked in a department that had a lot of heavy dirty work. I liked to wear black jeans which were quick to fade. I would redye the pants to refresh them. When the dress code went to navy shirts I would redye those also.

I lost a significant loss of weight. I've gone to clearance racks and clearance websites and purchased clothes cheaper than our local thrift store. I work with the public and need to look professional. Your temporary alteration of closes are good for being at home or out grocery shopping, not for business.

You might be able to use the blouse clip if you wear a sweater or jacket over the shirt. Same goes for the pant elastic velcro if you're wearing a shirt over the pants. Of course, these ideas just won't work for everything. I love that you choose the clearance rack and thrift!

Many women wear long loose blouses or sweaters, so the tips uses on the video won't even show. They sure can be used for business.
