If you run any size company, whether you have three employees or three hundred, sooner or later you're going to need to do a retreat, whether it’s for your employees or for your clients.
What I found is that there are some critical steps to take to make sure you get it right. Grab a pen and paper and write down these five most critical things you can do to make sure you have an amazing retreat.

Tip #1 - Go somewhere cool.
You shouldn't just go down to Starbucks, but if that's what you can afford, that is better than nothing. A trip outside of the office is very important. Going somewhere that you haven’t been before is also an important tip to remember.
Tip #2 - Do something that involves food.
Believe it or not, breaking bread or just enjoying a meal with people can be critical for breaking down barriers. People can have a deeper connection besides having just work related conversations over a meal.
Tip #3 - Play a game.
Ideally, this would be a game that is business related which ties people back into their behaviors and why they do what they do. You could do an icebreaker, or just do something that takes them outside of their normal comfort zone.
Tip #4 - Get some business done.
This should not be a stand and deliver retreat where you just tell everybody the information. This should be an opportunity to roll up your sleeves and actually get some work done, like a “workshop.”
In fact, we just did an event up in Tahoe called High Performance Salon Academy for a lot of the salons we work with. One of our guests, Holly Fox said to me,
“Jason, in the last 48 hours I’ve gotten more done for my business than I have in the last five years.”
Can you imagine that? In two days, getting more done than in the last five years? It's because when you create a retreat like a workshop instead of a "standing and delivering information" program, you actually give people the space to get things done. Magical things happen because you are in a different location, you are around other amazing people, and you give them some good information and that’s huge.
Tip # 5 - Bring in a guest speaker.
Bring in someone special. For our recent retreat, we brought in a good friend of mine. He is a speaker and a trainer extraordinaire, his name is Chris Baran. He is the artistic director of education for Redken, which is part of the L'Oréal family. He came in and did a little segment for us and it was over the top. People absolutely loved working with Chris.
Those five tips are critical to making sure you have an amazing destination training or retreat.
If you are a salon owner, then I would love to find out if you want to join us for the next retreat. If you are interested, say "I’d love to join you!" in the comment section and we will gladly send you information for the next retreat we have coming up soon.
If you are not a salon owner, you can use these tips to help grow your business.
If this was helpful for you, in the comment section just type the word "helpful", so I know this was beneficial and valuable for you.
Have a great rest of your week!
