Haha, I had a couple of people who saw my Short version first and were like, "whaaaat"? I directed them to this video and it helped them.

Okay i kinda understand the purpose of the cut now. If the legth of the cuts get shorter as you make the cuts what do you use the short wood for?

The only piece needed is the 5th piece. If you are referring to the ones in the thumbnail, those were the ones I saved from the multiple times I was attempting to get the fence dialed in. Each time I did the 5 cuts, my test board was getting shorter and shorter, so I eventually needed a new board to test it. Let me know if I didn't fully answer your question, I would be more than happy to explain it deeper.

@TheWoodworkingCorner ohhh so I'm you only needed the cuts to calibrated the fence thing for future cuts. I got it now the clarification. I don't work with power tools but I'm looking to learn more.

Yes, you are correct, it's a calibration method for getting the fence to be perpendicular to the blade.
