It took me forever just to ditch the unhealthy non dairy creamer I was addicted to... which certainly had health implications, but now black coffee itself isn't an issue. I can drink it right before I go to bed and it has no effect on my sleep, and in fact i find the warmth soothing. Likewise I can function fine without it. My sister on the other hand, was bowled over by caffeine... and even drank decaffeinated tea! Go figure. I doubt I'll stop drinking coffee entirely, but I love all the options though, thanks!

As a "devout" coffee drinker (yup, I even roast from Green myself as part of my 'ritual') - I'm talking well into double digits a day from about 15 years old - Hibiscus based teas make a great alternative (but be very careful because Hibiscus lowers blood pressure). It's also a great substitute for Red Wine lovers! Just hit one year Sober (free from alcohol, which was also a big problem), I am now working on my coffee addiction. Some good ideas here.

I quit cold turkey after being addicted to coffee from 15 to 32 years old... had not gone a day without several cups until a month ago...the withdrawal was AWFUL!!! It literally lasted almost a month and I'm just now starting to feel OK again. My appetite came back after at least 10 years of my appetite dwindling to nothing. I'm gaining weight again, and I'm actually completely fine without caffiene. They key is getting through the withdrawal and not trying to fix it with caffiene.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS! I’m a recovered alcoholic, recovered tobacco smoker, and recovered uppers addict (adderall) and the last drug addiction I’m trying to kick is caffeine! I drink around 5 cups a day and it causes me the most painful heartburn. I’ve done an extensive elimination diet and journaled the journey and found every time it is the coffee that causes heartburn even 10 hours after drinking it. I’m trying to quit and I like chicory the most, or sipping on hot water with a splash of soy milk. It’s a hard addiction to beat but GOD IS BIGGER!

I drink coffee decaffeinated via the Swiss water process and I have no problem at all. Better to be dead than to be without coffee. BTW I don't know how hibicus tea could be any better than it already is all by itself. It's DELICIOUS!! But not strained though PLASTIC!!

Everything you made looked sooo good!! I really don't like coffee! I love the smell of it, but not the taste! Yea, I know I'm weird!!! I have always been a tea person. I really love hibiscus tea! I'm definitely going to try making it your way!! Now if you could only come up with a replacement for vodka!!! LOL. It's the only bad thing I do!!!!

I do coffee free months from time to time but for me nothing beats coffee. I love it. My cup at 10AM (which is 4,25 hours after I wake up, work-out, breakfast & 2 hours into work day) is one of my favorite parts of the day. I’ve tried all the dandelion, hyper-expensive mushroom nonsense, turmeric, etc and for me personally, if there is no real coffee I just don’t bother. All of these are so disappointing or downright disgusting in the case of that dirty water those overpriced mushrooms produce, they just make me mad/sad... I can live with or without it, but rather with! It’s my one plant-life fail... so be it

For Christmas my in laws, who are Mexican, made a warm punch by boiling fresh sugar cane, guava, pecans, apples, and they added jamaica water. It was one of the best drinks I've ever had. 🌺

Coffee substitute prices are sky high so it's basically just rocketed out of my life. Lol. I mean think of all the food you could buy instead of a coffee substitute!!?? Almost $70 for Dandy Blend. No thank you! I just have REAL COFFEE from time to time & call it a day. And I don't have to compare it to a $7 Starbucks coffee when I only pay 10 cents per cup for a mint tea, chamomile or green tea at home. Time to time I can have a sugar free hot chocolate or coffee at home too.

Oh caffeine, how I love thee. But I don't love the fact that you raise my cortisol levels, affect the length and quality of my sleep, increase my stress level and hinder weight loss. Coffee is also acidic, so tough on the lining of the stomach. There is a half life to the caffeine in your system, it is likely affecting your sleep (and your brain function and immune system) whether you know it or not. Check out Dr. Matthew Walker in his many youtube interviews. If I can break up with caffeine, in Washington state, the land of 2 espresso stands on every corner, surely you can too.

I have a serious question... and I would appreciate your response ... since you are a vegetarian I was wondering what you would stock up on in a pantry situation in case we have an emergency food supply... I know that you could stock up on flour, spices, canned goods, beans, rice, pasta, protein shakes , etc.... What I am asking is what would you hoard for future since you're vegetarian..Or Do you see yourself going back to eating meat if in case you need to?

I get something similar to dandy blend at my grocery store. It's a barley drink that tastes like coffee. I have can't handle caffeine, but drank it for many years as a shift worker. I'm not working shifts anymore, so I switched to decaf, but I know there are still better things to drink, so I have been trying to eliminate decaf lately.

So grateful for this post. I am trying so hard to get away from refined sugar etc but my brain got stuck on needing a “bucks” fix (It’s nearly Christmas and I desperately wanted a peppermint mocha). Went to three Starbucks and found one closed, one out of the syrups, and one with a line that spanned half the state. I figured the universe was trying to tell me something so I gave up, came home, dug up this video, and whipped up a turmeric latte. It was sooo delightful, and so comforting. It squashed the craving big time and was a far more cost effective and healthy choice. Really appreciate all your efforts Dillon and Reeds!
