I agree... I have my 5th Bimmer 435 Msport/M performance, and find them easy to maintain. AllI do to mine is brakes and all fluids, plugs... very simple on these.

The battery. While it's convenient to charge or jump-start under the hood, don't test your battery through those +- contacts, it will give you wrong numbers. Go to the trunk and plug your tester directly to the battery. My totally new 1000A CA battery shows ~400A when plugged under the hood and ~1100A when tested directly. Maybe I have some issue with the harness in my particular car, but I think it's because you can't measure the battery's internal resistance properly if to connect under the hood.

Wish it was that easy to get to plugs on an e90 n55. Just did it and it’s crazy how much has to be removed to get to them.

With oil filter up top oil changes are done without getting under the car at all. Dealer shop has pumps to suck old oil out.

I own E92 335xi, (downpipes, chargepipe, MHD 2+ and all this stuff), I barely agree with oil filter just because you anyway change it with the oil and you have to lift the car. Spark plugs definitely better located than 4-5-6 plugs on transverse V6, but Audi longitudinal V6 gives even better access (at the cost of worse weight distribution)

You know, I think the 235 accommodates your desires as a BMW enthusiast more than you could facilitate the mods and maintaining an 11 y/o 335i. They can make dumb power, but you pay to play. That N55 will make great power too, it’s not like you need a 600hp car right now, maybe we’ll see a big power N54 on the channel in the future.

Bro you’re very knowledgeable about these PITA cars, I’ve got one myself, your same car actually, with tons of mods that I e done myself, Intercooler, charge pipe, exhaust system, and bootmod3, which I’m super happy about, never though this car was such a sleeper, tuned down tons from factory, I dynoed at 460 hp on the wheels 540 on torque, but you only mentioned the very basics of things, you didn’t say anything about what a royal pain in the ass it’s to replace the oil housing gasket for example, or the valve cover gasket which takes literally hours to do, which are a very common items on these cars, besides the fact that BMW loves plastic and aluminum for economical reasons only, not because they want to make it simple....

What driving mode do you drive in when you're on the track. Sport + gives the fastest throttle response but DSC is on, holding DSC off button turns it's off, but throttle response is back to comfort mode. Thanks.
@SimplyCarThings
4 жыл бұрын
I kept it in sport plus throughout my session on track. It allows for enough slip to push the car fairly hard through corners but the traction control is still intrusive. I think there may be a way to code it where you can still be in sport+ while having DSC fully off
@fiending
4 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyCarThings if you have DSC completely off and continue to accelerate where the normal traction control would have kicked in, wouldn't the rear wheels start slipping and go into drift mode. I'm wondering because that would mean you have to drive slower around turns with DSC completely off if you don't want to drift
@SimplyCarThings
4 жыл бұрын
@@fiending Yes, to a certain extent I think that's true. But that's where throttle modulation really comes into play, understanding how much to apply and knowing when to precisely back off. In Sport+ the DSC system is still a bit over-intrusive but since i'm a beginner i usually play it safe and leave it in that setting lol

@@SimplyCarThings i went to the the dyno with my bmw with stock air filter and " sport air filter" both in the original air box, and we did 3 runs just to make sure. And i had 3-7 hp less with the sport filter haha :) just because the AFS is very sensitive and when the computer measures something that it dousnt know, it cuts the power. sow with an open filter its even worse the filter is for a reason in a box :) bmw know's a thing or 2 about building an engine ^^

Having owned a e46 and a e81, and moving to Honda’s I couldn’t help but laugh. Air filters being a prime example. Yes, they have some well thought ideas, but many plain stupid ones, like any manufacturer. But when its anything beyond standard servicing its a nightmare.
