MANOS: The Hands of Fate is considered a cultural icon here in Texas. I'm not kidding - a few years ago, the State Fair had an exhibit on Texas's influence in film and television, and included such artifacts as one of Peter Mayhew's Chewbacca masks (he was living here in the Dallas area during the last few years of his life) and the original The Master robe.

This guy sat through almost half of the show and never laughed, never chuckled, just sat there with a polite little grin on his face the way people do when they would really like to politely get up and politely change the channel on someone else's TV. Many years later, that same friend of my brother's invited the both of us over for Thanksgiving dinner. Instead of football or Christmas movies, he had the TV tuned to a Golden Girls marathon on the Hallmark channel. And he ate a lot of brussell sprouts with his dinner. @@AnnaMorozovaArknights1 no one i knew watched it but me. I think i discovered it on a thanksgiving. We had already eaten and most of the adults were watching football. It must’ve have been a host segment that caught my eye cuz i doubt some old movie playing with vaguely defined shapes at the bottom of the screen would have made me stop clicking thru the channels. Other than some holidays it rarely came on during the day so i would just set my Garfield alarm clock to get up just before midnight, sneak in the living room, and pop in a vhs and set it to record for 2 hours. Sometimes if i thought i could get away with it i would stay up and watch a bit. My parents didn’t watch it but they definitely knew i did. They didn’t seem to mind tho. They weren’t cool with me getting up late at night when i had school, but i was sneaky and determined so i would just try not to get caught. And that’s pretty much how it went until the Comedy Central run ended. I don’t think i caught many episodes when it went to sci fi but by then dvds were a thing and i started collecting box sets from places like suncoast movies in the mall. I want to talk about my favorite MST3K jokes & eps, but I can't. Let me get real for a sec and say how much I love that you're doing these episodes, and how much I love MST3K. Most folks are kind of boring where I am, I'm not insulting them, but just the fact that there have always been things I thought were hilarious that no one else even considered a joke. MST3K showed me that there ARE people out there who have my sense of humor, that these jokes I was laughing alone at weren't dumb, I was just sharing them with the wrong audience. I discovered MST3K late in its run, and desperately caught all I could on VHS around the turn of the century, especially when they ran marathons and the like. Now it's 20+ years later and the kids I was bottle feeding while catching a late night episode are now adults who have gone to an MST3K live show with me. This show makes me so happy. Shook all their hands. Made a fool of myself in front of Trace Beaulieu. I wanted to tell him what a great actor he was. Anyone who can manipulate a puppet the way he does, instill it was such personality . . . That takes a lot of talent. Unfortunately, my sleep-deprived mind, coupled with being star struck, only allowed me to get the first six words out: “I think you’re a great actor.” Trace waited to see if there was more. When he realized there wasn’t, he said, “Oh. Thanks.” Handed me his autograph, and quickly turned to the next person in line. Still, a great time. 😅

Great idea. I really enjoyed SGDebris retrospective on the series & i look forward to next part. I have nothing but love & respect for Joel but I prefer the Mike era. But that era is only what it is because of what was learned from the early seasons. My favorite Joel episode is probably the Gamera episode. The song will be forever with me.

I love MST3K...The Joel years...the Mike years. I've been a big fan going on 33 years since discovering this ultimate gem 💎💎💎 by complete accident in June 1991. The Hercules movies are hilarious...hell it's all fantastic. Remember M-I-T-C-H-E-L-L!

It’s thanks to shows like yours, MST3K and Red Letter Media that really inspired my love for cheesy B movies and shows. Something endearing about schlock and their creativity (or lack thereof)

Holy crap, I literally JUST watched the 'Mitchell' episode of 'MST3K' right here on KZitem less than 3 days ago! Thanks for explaining the backstory for some of these films. I always wondered about them! The 'Santa vs the Martians' & 'Santa vs the Devil' -episodes are STILL annual viewing for me, along with the 'Rifftrax' version of the 'Star Wars Holiday Special'! I hope to see more soon! Happy Holidays! =)

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is now my favorite Christmas movie because of MST3K. I remember that movie floating around cable tv sometimes but I never watched it all the way through until it showed up on MST3K. I still say it's got the best movie Santa Claus. Some of the snarky things he says absolutely kill me. 😆

I actually got my mother (who is 63 at the time of this message) into MST3K as a result of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. We were watching a news report on CBS and saw a clip from the movie, with my mom going, "Oh god, it's that movie with Pia Zadora." As she never watched MST3K, I asked her how she knew about that movie and was told she watched it as a child when it aired on local TV in the 60s. I then suggested watching a double billing of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (as well as I Accuse My Parents) and she has been a happy MSTie ever since.

When I was very little I saw mst3k (I believe some of the sci fi channel episodes) on tv but could never find them again or even remember what the show was called to look it up. Then, years later in Highschool I found 4 episodes on dvd for rent at a Hollywood Video! It confirmed what I saw wasn’t a dream and reintroduced me to an amazing show!

Phew, that opening paragraph. The title made my jaw hit the floor and I was about to say we can't be friends anymore. Thank god it was clickbait. 😅

I really didn't do it to be clickbaity, it was just the sentence that worked with the ongoing theme. Its why I made sure to start out letting you all know that MST is most definitely not forgotten.

Nice episode. Looking forward to part 2. I was a late fan of MST3K. I didn't start watching it until a friend introduced me to it on the Sci Fi Channel, so I started with Mike and didn't see any of the Joel episodes until later. I miss the good old days when they'd have 24 hour marathons of MST3K on Thanksgiving. That was great.

I've loved MST3K since I saw my first episode, Catalina Caper, after coming back to my dorm from a party. Pissed my roommate 7:01 off because I couldn't stop laughing. I regret nothing. So many great episodes and Mitchell has to be at the top of my list, but my favorite of the Mike era is The Girl in Gold Boots.

One of the great things about the Joel years is, we got Mike too, in quite a number of hilarious guest appearances. I like Season 7, and the SyFy episodes that followed it, but the dream team was assembled for five glorious years from Seasons 2 through 6, with Joel, Mike, and both mad scientists, the adorable TV's Frank and the delightfully evil Dr. Clayton Forrester.

MST3K was my childhood. I started watching from season 1 when it began airing on Comedy Central. Some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories are of watching the Turkey Day Marathon each year. Thanks for covering it on your channel.

My elementary school screened Santa Claus Vs the Martians as a "treat" right before the winter break. My school sucked. This was before MST3k as I am old.
