This video helped me understand why my first relationship failed: I was too complacent. I didn't put in nearly enough effort, even though I still loved her. This turned into her getting emotional about it, and I shut down. I couldn't handle it. I was too young and dumb to know how to get through those problems. I haven't had a committed relationship since, but now knowing this, I think I can make it work. Thanks!

all 5 points hit me hard so much because I'm in a relationship rn where my partner is neglecting me, she rarely talks to me anymore, she's going out with other people barely telling me anything, and she's never there for me. Then when I do speak to her, it's often short and she goes to hang out with another person that's apparently way more important than me in her eyes. It's been going on for months, and now, most of the time I wonder if I'm the problem, if I'm the reason that our relationship is like this. I want to talk it out and make things better, but I can never do that if she's never around.

Just stand up in front of her, slam your fist into the table and scream that you need to talk. If she doesn't, just leave. It's hard, but I don't think she loves you anymore if she does that. Well, that's what I would have done anyways. That has its trade off though, because it makes me look controlling towards her. I just want them to put as much effort as me.

How about: 6. The habit of being disrespectful. Of not showing respect for your partner’s feelings, opinions or choices. 7. The habit of devaluation. Belittling, ignoring, not listening or minimizing your partner’s contributions. 8. The habit of withholding. THIS IS A BIG ONE: Starving your partner of attention, affection, sex, praise, touch, comfort, encouragement, affirmation, compassion, inclusiveness, respect, your time or any kind of emotional or physical support. 9. The habit of hiding your true self. Not being honest, truthful, transparent or vulnerable to your partner. 10. The habit of not really SEEING your partner as a person for who they are as an individual apart from you. Too many people only see their partner for what they do for them or how they make them feel but fail to enjoy or value them as an individual, unique being. 11. The habit of being dishonest, keeping secrets, lying to your partner. 12. The habit of not seeing the big picture. The big picture is you are a couple in a relationship, sharing your lives together. Everything you do, every choice you make effects your partner. If you’re in a relationship, your life is not your own. It includes your partner. Everything you do will have a positive or negative effect on your partner’s life. If you make good choices, they too will share the rewards. If you make bad choices, they too will suffer the consequences and pain. If you focus on what is best for your partner and you as a couple, you are beginning to see the big picture!

"The habit of being a jerk" I have had some issues with this one. Of course they deny being a jerk, don't 'mean anything' by picking on or constantly "pranking" for fun! And then made to feel like I'M the one who is wrong, because I "can't take a joke" and I'm "no fun"! When you're always the punchline, it starts to feel like getting emotionally punched! It hurts. I'm not having fun at that point. I feel pain. I feel like my feelings aren't as important as their need for amusement, even when they are completely aware that their laughter is at the expense of my feelings! My peace of mind, my feelings of adequacy! Something is wrong with ME for feeling hurt little "joking" insults, and "pranks" that feel just cruel at times. I'm not "the one" for them, if I feel upset. And I started to believe perhaps something was actually wrong with me for responding to "just having a little fun" with negativity? Maybe I just need to losen up more? Should I just try and learn to not take their behavior so seriously, when they're just joking? Right? Ok I'm sorry, I know you were just messing around..... And you find yourself apologizing for having hurt feelings, to the very person who purposely hurt your feelings for their own amusement, knowing full well how they make you feel, when they do and say such things 🤔

I'm ok with the fact that we're no longer talking, and I was constantly afraid to be alone but thanks to this channel and my therapist I realized it's a dumb, weak fear that currently I'm overcoming, it's not so terrible once you realize those kind of thoughts are there and when you begin to question them, they lose power so it helps a lot on the breakup recovery I think. I don't know if this is good or not, but I demand commitment from day one, from the very getting to know each other. I know it's not good, but my reason is that I'm tired of investing time in relationships that don't work. It may sound cliché, but my time is running out. I'm becoming 29 later this year, which means if I don't marry soon, I may not live to see my granchildren or even become too old to have children. That's why I don't think I can start a relationship that wouldn't turn into a marriage in the next 3 years. And furthermore, that is too short of a time for my situation right now, because I don't think I can do enough to sustain a family at this moment, in the next three years. Maybe I should take the fact I'll remain an old childless bag, who will just turn into a laughimg stock. Yeah, laugh now, I know. My luck doesn't look like changing any time soon anyways.

The first one is cliche` and poor advice. You wouldn't know if anyone is good or bad if there is nothing to compare them to. How would you ever know what is normal if you have nothing to compare them to? This is advice straight out of 50''s psychology where women were not allowed to leave their husbands so you can't compare them to other relationships you've had, you're stuck with them. You don't have to be extreme or a jerk about it obviously but there are tactful ways to let people know what you like, even if it came from someone else. Think of it this way; if the person you love really liked something that someone else used to do, are you going to tell them tough shit you should have stayed with them I'd rather you be unhappy than do something someone else has done? Do you see my point? Plus, do you want to be someone your partner can talk to about anything or do you want them to keep their life secret? Do you think your partner should get mad at you if you had a happy memory you wanted to share, but then realized part way through it involved an ex? My point; it's not good advice - do better. kk continuing on and hoping the rest of the advice is better. OK 2 is much better but you really should have added that this is also the phase you will find out the most about your partner. This is when you will find out what kind of person they are and if they are someone you can really be with. During the honeymoon phase people aren't always honest (it's not necessarily deception) because they are trying to show you their best self. We all have a lot to us though so we can't show it all off all the time. 3, duh. 10 out of 10 publications on relationships say communication is either #1 or at least in the top 5. A note about it's importance would have been nice as well as maybe a trick or two like in the previous parts. Not all of us are good with communication especially, and I hate to be cliche`, men. Our culture is toxic to all of us and the thing it wears down and beats out of men is our ability to communicate well with others. So, make sure to talk to your partner every day, and if you aren't comforting them make them smile. If you aren't chatty then make sure you can at least listen well and share. It helps if you two find a hobby or something you can talk about. 4, It always amazes me how many people are abusive. I can absentmindedly be a jerk sometimes, we all can, but it's odd how many people are total jerks to others. If you've had relationships end with the partner saying you are a jerk or something like that then you might want to take a good look at yourself and what you do. I personally am guilty of making people feel stupid unintentionally to often. I haven't quite figured out the balance between communicating enough and holding enough back to not seem like an insufferable know it all. I could use this post as an example of this I think.... O well, Moving on. LoL 5 you went into this one pretty well. Anything I would add would put grey into it and frankly there is no grey. If you feel you have a reason to cheat than you shouldn't be in the relationship.

It's sad and hard being the one in the relationship who tries and tries and sees the relationship as a hight priority. My last (and so far only) relationship ended up in spending no time together anymore and if I was not the one starting chatting, there was no chat. It felt like I was left behind. I always said, I'll never be between him and his friends, but even long planned things were cut off a day before because of them. It still hurts thinking about that time, because we've been so happy.

+Psych2go *These five don't apply at present because I'm still seeking a relation.* As the autistic adult child of a dysfunctional house of origin, I didn't really have an opportunity to learn how one should be treated in the first place.

Idk... but if your in a long distance relationship and only had 1-2hrs of call each day. I dont think you should need more space unless there's something really important going on. It's the bare minimum tbh.

No relationship can be worked out successfully if you only care about yourself and your needs. All successful relationships in the world are based on a sense of compromise and collaboration. Each individual should consider the needs of their partner and place them ahead of their own. People who tend to put their own needs first can never have a healthy relationship.

I disagree. I think a healthy relationship is to find balance between my needs and needs of my partner. And sometimes, it's way more healthy to put my needs first ! Obviously, that + a lot of communication (bc it's the key)

number four basically perfectly describes how it was, she was beeing mean to me as a joke. after a while of ignoring my emotions about it i got really mad at her and said some bad things to her aswell, then she broke up with me and shit was shit. is there any hope to fix the relationship after nr4 ??

Sadly a lot of people see relationships as a dime a dozen nowadays. So they don't try. :/

Reminder for folks: cheating is not the same thing as polyamory. You can absolutely cheat in polyamory by not being communicative or withholding relevant info.

hey there, i had a load of pent up frustrations and emotions about my gf like kinda small things but they irritated me a lot, yesterday i woke up and she had called me something i really didnt like but she said it was a "joke" and "not that deep" well it wasnt a joke to me no matter how insignificant that little thing she said was it meant a lot to me and really hurt me. so instead of telling her that i have been feeling hurt by what she says over a long time when she says it i try ignoring it and not tell her how i feel to avoid hurting her. well it really didnt work cus it overboiled yesterday. i got really angry at her and let it all out on her and said things i knew she wouldnt like as a sort of "stings doesnt it" to let her know the pain i felt so that she could maybe understand, but it didnt go my way at all. after the argument she said she lost feelings for me after what i said to her and she broke up with me... i tried apologizing but she wont even bother reading my apology and just answered with the letter "e" thats all she said i havent texted her after that.. i still have strong feelings for her and i dont know how to let go of them, i still love her so much and i regret letting my anger take control. i asked my dad for advice but he just said "theres someone out there for you" and that just makes everything even more depressing... everything i found fun to do before like play video games and watch movies and all my other hobbies are just not fun anymore either and i really need some help.

My ex cheated on me despite having been together for 3 years and we promised to never let anyone come between us. My whole world fell apart and I became more and more insecure of myself ever since he broke up with me and I have gotten deeply afraid that it could happen to me again if I do meet someone else. I don't intend on giving up on love as a way to work on getting stronger and do better in a relationship...

Thank you psych2go! I’m talking to someone now, and I’m constantly afraid, and fearful that I’m ruining our relationship. I appreciate the videos, and the love you spread.
