Film photography is fun, but boy, that stuff is getting expensive! In this video, I'm gonna share with you my top 5 hacks to save you money when shooting film photography. As a passionate film photographer myself, over the years I have discovered some awesome ways to keep costs down while still enjoying film.
1.) Don't shoot the popular cameras: While iconic cameras are undeniably alluring, they often come with a hefty price tag. Instead, explore lesser-known gems and vintage finds. You'll be surprised by the amazing results you can achieve without breaking the bank.
2.) Shoot Chinese film: Chinese film brands have been gaining popularity for their affordability and quality. Websites like alibaba, and aliexpress are making it easier than ever to import cheaply rolled film into the States. By opting for these budget-friendly alternatives, you can save a bundle while still capturing stunning shots.
3.) Shoot smaller film formats: Embrace the charm of 35mm and medium format photography. These smaller formats not only cost less per frame but also encourage you to be more intentional with your shots, leading to improved skills and creativity.
4.) Hand load your own rolls of film: Loading your own film can seem intimidating at first, but it's a game-changer when it comes to cost-saving. Bulk rolls of film are more economical, and once you get the hang of loading, it becomes a fun and rewarding part of the process.
5.) Develop your own film: Developing your own film not only saves money but also gives you full control over the results. It's easier than you might think, and the satisfaction of seeing your images come to life in the darkroom is truly unbeatable.
I can't wait to see how these money-saving tips enhance your film photography journey. Let me know in the comments which tip you find most intriguing or if you have other budget-friendly suggestions to share. Remember, film photography is all about creativity, and saving money opens up even more opportunities to explore this wonderful art form.
