@@bobbijonestarot5751 It's true. For instance, our lips may have looked pretty symmetrical in our younger years but will change over time due to expressions, sagging, etc. I used to have pretty perfectly shaped lips and even smile but now one side is slightly different than the other and my smile is not as symmetrical. I also have one eye that I just noticed is sagging differently than the other. Now I'm finding all of this in a 20x mirror so it's probably not noticed by others as much, but I know more changes will come as I age -- It is what it is, unless you opt for surgery, which I am too scared will render me worse than if I would just leave mother nature to do her thing!

To be honest, I get very tired of hair trends and I think following them is what makes people look dated. There was that time everyone had the caramel highlights, the wavy lob with the straight ends, then the super long waved extensions, etc. It’s as though one generation’s style is chosen to be “It” and everyone else is considered out of step. It would be great to hear about styles for different hair types and face shapes, low vs high maintenance and so on without reference to trends. (But maybe I’m the only one…)

Can people just let their insecurities go and realize it’s ok to not follow every single trend and look exactly the same as everyone else? It’s gonna change as soon as it becomes popular anyway.

GREAT. I just had my hair done again for the first time since we began lockdown. It was practically virgin hair, it had grown out SO MUCH. My stylist gave me a full head of highlights (thankfully very thin at the very least) but I also felt this appeared somehow outdated as everyone now has balayage) not to mention it looked GRAY in the selfies I took when I got home. It looked amazing in the lighting at the salon for being what it is - a full head of highlights!! Can you tell me why this might be and also what I can do now to correct this, if anything?? Also, I inquired about adding a body wave to my roots for some lift because my hair seriously lacks volume and always falls flat. I don't care WHERE I go to get my hair done ( and I spend $$$ on my hair ) but anywhere I've gone (after 20+ years going to the same stylist, we parted ways over my being late to my last few appointments - he fired me as a client!!!) it always feels like I show pictures of color I like/want and it seems to go in one ear and out the other with the stylist going ahead and giving me whatever they've been doing anyway. Is this possibly because of the fact I've been friends or acquaintances with these guys for so many years??? I paid $275 for my "outdated" full head of highlights and that was HALF PRICE!! HELP.

@@indy18286 I respectfully disagree with you here. A lot of them DONT listen, a lot of them don’t keep up with the trends. You cannot achieve the balayage look with a whole head of highlights. Point being as a stylist you have to keep studying if you want to remain relevant . You have to continue learning learning learning and keeping up with trends, because clients are going to come with pictures they have seen and say “I want this” , it is the stylists duty to be honest and say whether or not this goal is achievable, I feel a lot of stylists just slap a shit load of foils and hope you will be happy with this. The best stylists I have been to LISTEN before they start and they are also HONEST if the picture goal is achievable. If a stylist is happy with his/her client base and ALL they want is 80s style foil highlights , so be it. I have been through so many times with stylists and I have found ONE who was bomb, and was on point with new stuff and techniques that a lot of young women are after. There are artists out there and then there are people who went yo hairdressing school and take a salary at the end of the month.

I have always hand long, thick, wavy layers. But like four times in my life I've cut it "short"--once to my chin (mistake), once to my collar bones (I should've liked it but didn't embrace it because I was too insecure), once as a long bob (LOVED IT and have tried to recreate it, but my stylist had moved away) which leads me to my fourth time, when a miscommunication with the very talented stylist left me very very unhappy. She put in a lot of layers and I felt like I suddenly looked like I was in my mid to late thirties. I accidentally got "The Rachel" and I was newly post partum so already feeling self conscious. BUT I still loved that one time when I got a long bob--I felt like it was my ideal look and my long wavy layers were just a safe choice and blanket for my self consciousness. I'm 28 though and I feel like I fit into that category where it was super popular to have my hair look like 5-7 years ago, but I'm STILL repping it and I'm in my late twenties where I do feel a pressure not to look dated. I booked my next hair appointment, and I've found a stylist who has several bob/long bob looks on her page that I love! As long as that's what she puts on my head, I am going to be so happy. I feel like I haven't been able to put my finger on "what went wrong" exactly with my last short hair cut, but you nailed it--it looked dated cause of all the layers. I'm going to be very clear this time around. Great, helpful video!

The amount of women taking offense at this video! Why does e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g have to offend anymore?? I mean, I’m in my mid 40’s, have tons of grey hair that I haven’t colored in a year, recently changed from a middle part (that I wore for years) to a slight side part bc it provides more volume for my thinning, aging hair, and yet can watch this and not feel personally attacked. 😂 The truth for me is, I care a little bit about looking my age, but not a lot. :-) It’s taken time and acceptance to start being comfortable enough to let my greys shine, my wrinkles hang, and not get the same kind of attention I used to, among a thousand other changes like being an empty-nester, career changes, peri-menopause drama, etc. This woman is simply sharing her personal ideas about things she sees as a stylist that tend to, in her opinion, make women look “older”. So what? What’s it about looking older that you’re not comfortable with that makes you feel you need to correct her? Why even click on a video called “5 Trends That Are Aging You” if you are middle-aged (like me!) and are not planning to be open to changing what you’re currently doing with your hair, because you’re content with how your hair looks? I rarely comment anymore on videos, but these comments…

My beautiful long healthy shiny hair, was bleached and turned out bright orange. Then colour was put on but it was so patchy it was all different shades of copper. After 2 weeks I returned to have colour sorted as it wasn't the way I thought it would look. My hair when washed felt heavy and like straw. Hair started breaking, tiny little bits and hair was falling out. When I wash my hair and condition, I can't get a tangle tease through it as for blow drying it, big no no. I am absolutely devastated I feel my hair is beyond repair. I have never has short hair, its always been half way down my back. Is there anything I can do to heal my hair before I get it cut short. It will take years to grow it this length again. I wish to god that I had not let hairdresser do my hair. I have now lost all faith in hairdressers

It may be aging having grey ombre for a couple of years, but it would look worse having fried orange yellowy hair with grey on top than with my dark brown. Grey comes in more fine and it would surely break off if I let someone bleach it. Orange has never been my color. 😋

Center parts are unflattering on most people, because it widens the nose and highlights facial asymmetries front and center - honestly I’m a little surprised you’re pushing center parts, probably because you have one yourself so you’re biased. Those of us who are older have already been through past center part trends, either in the late 60’s-70’s or in the mid 00’s. The side part just over the highest point of the eyebrow arch is the most flattering part in general. I think the advice of playing with your part is very good, but no one should try to push their hair into a center part if they subconsciously feel it’s not as flattering on them. JMO.

Curious about 5 heads and the center part. I think that a center part highlights my big ol forehead and actually ages me a bit. I play around with it some days but feel that the side part softens my face and helps take attention off my forehead. Agree about the last hair style. It needs to die and Never. Ever. Return.

the size of your forehead is more personal. If you feel more comfortable with bangs or a side part thats totally fine. What I don't want is you to feel like you must have a side part due to age.

Can you do a video on the opposite topic? How to look more mature with your hair? I'm about to start my post-college career, but I still get comments that I look like a high schooler. I want to look professional and be taken seriously

Middle parts are unflattering. It makes your hair look weighed down and drab. Center part elongates your face makes you look tired.

Please do a video like this on hair tones! For example, gray toned blonde isn’t really it anymore. What’s the new blonde tone?

I don’t care what other people think of my hair and neither should you……whatever makes ME feel beautiful weather it’s “trendy” or not, I’m going to rock it. I don’t get my haircut or style for anyone else but ME. Who are you to decide this????

Not all face shapes can wear a center part. Long faces need hair on their forehead, etc.

What do I do during transition to gray to not age me. If one goes cold turkey, which seems to be the trend, one will have the dreaded skunk line. I am still in month one of transition. No demarcation yet but it’s coming soon. Help.

I'm trying to not look so old (64) or dated, but trends don't necessarily look good on me. (I have a pointy head, so no center part for me) I get lots of compliments on my hair. I do want to go lighter; almost strawberry blonde. (think Jessica Chastain) I had this color when I was in my twenties and it did look good with my complexion. As I get older, I feel strongly that less contrast between my hair and skin color will be more flattering. My white roots on top don't work well with the dark root trend. I prefer an all over color and I'll have it colored every 4 weeks. My problem is my stylist just won't do what I'm asking. She did the strong streaky highlights. I hated them. She's only in her late 30's and is gorgeous. She can't tell me why she won't make it strawberry blonde. I've shown her photos of exactly what I want. It's getting lighter, but NO red. UGH! Is it time to switch stylist?

Hi, I'm in my mid 50s and self-employed and have always leaned towards a casual/sporty-ish type of personality, except when going to brick and mortar work or other functions, where I'm a lot more "put-together". My hair has always been on the wavy side, but not wavy enough to look nice air dried. I tend not to use blow dryer, whenever possible, because it dries out my hair (although it does make it look smooth and very styled). I have a diamond shaped face and can't seem to find a hair length/look that really flatters my face. Just below chin and totally large round-brush smooth looks very flattering, but I don't want to damage my hair. I wear bangs because I feel I look more masculine without them. When I let my layers grow out, it looks like my hair is dragging my face down. Any suggestions? I know, LOTS to think about : )

I have thick hair so a centered part would be very comfortable because my hair wouldn't fall onto my eyes that often, but I worry about not having a perfectly symmetrical face. Many say a centered part brings out any asymmetry. What do you think about this?

Being a mature woman I have quite thin sides and shoulder length hair that is pretty much one length, my question is should I have face framing layers a or is one length better for thin hair , I’m afraid of looking like I have a mullet 💗

I have a hair problem. Two summers ago my pool was off in the chemicals and the bottom part turned green. Ever since it pulls much darker brown than the rest of my hair. I recently cut it from long to above shoulder length but there was still a couple inches that pulled darker. What could it be and what do I tell my stylist to do to fix it?
