Add a woodworking vice to your workmate!
Workmate Mod No:8 | Skill level: Easy | Time Needed ~1/2 a day
This is probably the most useful workmate modification I done so far. If you love tinkering in the garage or shed doing a bit of DIY, then this is for you. It is especially useful for people with small workshops and little space for a proper woodwork bench.
Here I describe another awesome modification (hack/accessory) to upgrade your Black & Decker Workmate, I'll show you how to add a woodworking vice.
In the video I show how I customised my workmate and offer some comments on things I'd do differently if I did it again. This simple customisation is for the beginner, so can be done without any specialist tools and is quite an easy upgrade that used scraps of wood I had lying around.
Everything in the upgrade used previously used materials I've had stored under the banner 'That will be useful one day' but it works well, has a few surprises and makes me smile knowing I've tidied my workshop a little by using up some scraps.
The Vice can be removed in the same way as the rear jaw on my Workmate 800, it should work on any workmate that has a detachable rear jaw, such as the Workmate 825, but other workmates in the black and decker range such as the 125, 225, 325, 400, 425, 800 and 825 could be adapted.
Tools Needed:
1) Hand Drill (or cordless drill)
2) Impact driver (or screwdriver)
3) Saw (or circular saw and Mitre (chop) saw))
4) Clamps (lots of clamps)
Materials Needed:
1) Wood - I used old pine shelving and a few bits of pine 3"x2"
2) Wood Vice - I had an old one hanging around
3) Screws
4) Glue

If you have modified your workmate I'd love to hear about them in the comments.
