Acientists put a speaker with the sound of running water playing from it and the beavers in the area actually "dammed" (buried) the speaker until it couldn't be heard anymore.

Reminds me of the millions of dollars spent on trying to reintroduce Red wolves to Eastern North Carolina. Game commission couldn't understand why all the young red wolves kept disappearing. Seems the Eastern coyotes didn't like having the competition for food and hunted down the wolf pups and juveniles. Wasted lives and effort.

Good points. However I disagree with the point that not hearing the water leads to not rebuilding the dam. Beavers also respond to underwater cues like suction. However they seem smart enough not to rebuild during storm events. They wait to make remake repairs until the time is right.

How large are the Giant Otters in the Amazon. I saw a family of them back in the mid 90s and they were huge!!!! I was scared they were going to get in the boat and kill our family dog. Our dog wasn't small either, he weighted in around 110lbs. Yet those Otters were still trying to get in our little boat with him. He was trying to get into the water after them. They were probably 6ft long including their tail. Anyway I wouldn't want to get into it with one. They have very Sharp Teeth and Very Sharp Claws to go with it. I think it took us about 20 mins to get out of their territory and they were willing to kill or be killed to protect it.

Let me get this straight, a bunch of self educated "environMENTALists" decided to put beavers in Otter territory. The otters killed all of the beavers because the "environMENTALists" do not know half of what they think they do. They had all kinds of warm fuzzy feelings about "saving" the beavers. The beavers paid for the "environMENTALists" education with their lives, babies first.

photo at 7:41 is a muskrat being chased by an otter, not a beaver. Otters can hold their breath for 4 minutes. Beavers can stay under for 15, so they could easily win combat when they are mature

Otters are obligate-carnivores & apex-freshwater-predators, they see animals as food: beavers just exist to do beaver-stuff all-year-round: otters are related to weasels who eat rodents like rabbits; beavers are rodents like rabbits.

So to really mess with a beaver, you bring out a fountain and create the sounds of running/flowing water? Because that signals to them their dam is broken? lol I wonder if anyone has ever tried that. I wonder what the beavers would do. Would they keep inspecting their dam over and over looking for the hole or would they be able to tell it was from an unrelated element that has nothing to do with their dam? 😊
